Chapter Forty-Eight: Confusing

Brighton Beach, New York, since Ivankov settled here, the law and order situation in the Brighton community has improved dramatically. One is because Ivankov harshly taught the gangs of minorities in several surrounding regions. The second point is that it is home to more and more defectors from the battlefields of Afghanistan.

The original residents of the Brighton community were happy to see this happen. Because in New York, the Russian-American population is a minority within a minority. The original residents of Brighton were mostly Soviet intellectuals, but they were surrounded by black American communities. Since Ivankov arrived, he has cleaned up several black men who had looted the shops in the Brighton neighborhood. The black gangs wanted revenge, but when they found out that the Italians were in collusion with the Brighton community, they dismissed the idea. After all, New York is still the world of Italian gangs, and even if Italian gangs are in decline, the emaciated camel is still bigger than a horse.

There weren't many Russian-American communities on the East Coast, and the CIA quickly noticed the change in policing at Brighton Beach. The C.I.A. sent an employee of Russian descent into the neighborhood so that it was easy to get a sense of the situation. It didn't take long for the employee to get some inside information.

According to the employee's survey, the Brighton community has moved in a lot of new faces over the course of the year, usually only for a few weeks and then moving out soon after finding a job. Many young Russians who have been smuggled here know that it is easier to find a job here! In addition, there was indeed a very influential person living here, his name was Ivankov, but it is not clear whether he was a thief or not. He was revered by the community, even by Solzhenitsyn, a famous writer who lived in the community, the Nobel laureate in literature who defected from the Soviet Union. And he did his best for the community, and he also funded the renovation of the Orthodox church here! In this report, there is no direct evidence that this Ivankov is a lawyer.

Employees of the CIA's investigation of Russian-speaking communities across the country have sent back reports one after another, and about a dozen people have been listed as key suspects, and Ivankov's suspicion is not the greatest.

In order to avoid being alarmed, the CIA began to focus on monitoring the financial situation of these people. There are several suspects who are engaged in obvious criminal activities, but they live in a very ordinary middle-class community, and this Ivankov lives in the Taj Mahal casino all year round.

"Why is he so rich!" Feeling unnatural, the CIA finally shifted the suspicion to Ivankov. Little did Ivankov know that it was being targeted by the most powerful intelligence agencies in the world.

"Keep an eye on this Ivankov, I think he's the answer we're looking for!" The head of the Colombian intelligence group affirmed at the intelligence meeting. The reason why he dared to say so absolutely was mainly due to his years of experience in judging cases. Because the great traitors often look humble and gentleman on the outside.

"We also found out that this Ivankov is married, his wife has American citizenship and runs a butcher shop in the Brighton community. But this Ivankov rarely comes back, and the two don't seem close! Someone saw this information in the report and immediately pointed it out.

"Very good, it sounds a bit like a fake marriage for a green card, so be it! We used the identity of the immigration bureau to contact his wife first to see if we could get anything valuable! The person in charge finally clapped his head and said.

A few days after the meeting, several immigration officials walked into the Brighton neighborhood of Mirami butcher shop and offered to visit Mr. Ivankov's wife to learn about their marriage.

"My husband is not here now! What are you looking for him? "Mrs. Ivankov was probably in her forties, bloated, typical of a middle-aged Slavic woman.

"Yes, we're here to investigate your marriage! You know, there are many foreign immigrants who are married to get green cards by fraud, and every green card we issue has to go through repeated investigations to ensure that the information provided to us by the applicant is true! A young man from the immigration office explained in a friendly manner to Ivankov's wife.

"What do you all want to know?" Mrs. Ivankov angrily unfurled her apron and threw it on the counter.

"How did you meet?" The immigration officer asked.

"He turned out to be my tenant, we lived together, and it wasn't long before we were going to get married!" Ivankov's wife immediately replied.

"What does your husband do?" The immigration officer asked again.

"He does security work in Atlantic City casinos!" Ivankov's wife, Biga, replied thoughtfully.

"What did your husband do when he was in the Soviet Union?"

"I've answered all of your questions when I applied to the USCIS, and now I'm bothering me again, what's going on, can't you just do something serious with taxpayers' money?" Mrs. Ivankov said impatiently at them.

"I'm sorry, but it's all necessary, ma'am!" The immigration officer explained.

"Okay, stop asking these questions I've answered a thousand times, I've had enough?" Mrs. Ivankov urged.

"Well, ma'am, please tell me what your husband likes to eat the most, and name the three things he likes the most!"

"Yes......" Mrs. Ivankov just wanted to make up one casually, and suddenly remembered that these people might go to Ivankov and ask again, if it didn't match it at that time, it would be troublesome, but Ivankov gave her a lot of money to get this green card, and if something went wrong then, the money would fly, so Mrs. Ivankov said vaguely: "Aren't there a few?" Beetroot soup, steak, sour cream and the like! ”

……

Through these nourishing conversations, the intelligence officer, disguised as an immigration officer, has figured out one thing, that there should be a fake marriage between this woman and Ivankov, and she doesn't know much about Ivankov.

By the end of the visit, the C.I.A. had abandoned its plans to use Ivankov's wife as a breakthrough. They decided to send someone to monitor Ivankov's every move twenty-four hours a day. Hoping to find some valuable clues, at this moment, an intelligence agent found new information from the police file, this Ivankov actually has a diplomatic status in the Vatican, what the hell is going on.
