Chapter 11 The Ethnic Question

It's time to come, and despite the preparations, Ferdinand's mood is still not easy! The financial crisis came at a bad time, and now Bulgaria is busy with the big migration?

Now they have to deal with the economic crisis, and the pressure on them is too great for the government!

You must know that in order to ensure the smooth progress of the immigration work, Ferdinand did not even come up with the "Third Five-Year Plan" that had been prepared for a long time, just so that the government could concentrate on doing a good job in the immigration work!

You must know that after the Balkan Wars, the population of Bulgaria theoretically exceeded 10 million, reaching 11,430,000!

In fact, in addition to the original more than 4.3 million people, there are also more than 1.8 million Bulgarians scattered in the Balkans, which can be regarded as their own people!

Bulgaria has always been regarded as their only homeland and has the highest loyalty, and the other minorities still need time to digest!

Among the remaining more than 5 million people, there are more than 1.4 million people who are deeply influenced by Bulgarian culture and are easy to assimilate, mainly in Macedonia and Eastern Thrace.

These more than 1.2 million people, because they have been essentially Bulgarianized, so it is not difficult to assimilate, and they also identify with Bulgaria, and all of them have changed their Bulgarian identity cards, which is basically digested!

In addition to these people, there are also some people who defected to Bulgaria in the Balkan War because of their hatred for the Ottoman Empire, which can be regarded as a combination of interests and joined the Bulgarian family.

This part of the population is distributed in a wide area, basically in all places, including Albanians, Armenians, Macedonians, blacks, Serbs and other ethnic minorities, a total of more than 1.2 million people.

Of course, the Black and Serbs had already been given to Nicholas I by Ferdinand, who founded the new Kingdom of Montenegro, which was formed by these two peoples.

Among these people, there were also many people who shared part of the benefits after the war, and the representatives were volunteers in the Constantinople War, which was bought by Ferdinand.

As long as Bulgaria remains strong, they will not be in trouble. Especially those who participated in the Battle of Constantinople, they were basically intimidated by the Bulgarian soldiers, and they spontaneously cooperated with the government's work, and they were not troublesome!

There are still more than 3 million people, and nearly 2 million are diehards, simply put, they have different religious beliefs and refuse to convert, and they all belong to the object of repatriation to the Ottoman Empire!

This is based on the premise that Ferdinand had expelled 1.8 million diehards in the Balkan Wars, otherwise the number would have been even greater!

Because their leadership was swept away during the Balkan Wars, they are now scattered all over the place, without a leader, and there is no big trouble.

The real trouble is the other million people, who, on the one hand, are close to Bulgaria in terms of faith, and at the same time adhere to their own cultural traditions.

Ferdinand was reluctant to expel them, and now the government has no time to spend on them, and slowly assimilates them, and more importantly, they have relatives and friends of all nationalities, many of whom have relatives and friends, have already put down their insistence and joined Bulgaria, and the government has to consider the feelings of this part of the people!

Originally, according to Ferdinand's established plan, it would take at least years or even decades to disperse the immigrants among them, use time to influence them, and subtly assimilate them!

Now Bulgaria really doesn't have enough time to do all this, as soon as the economic crisis comes, and they want to emigrate, who can take care of them, this is forcing Ferdinand to be ruthless!

Of course, the Bulgarian government did not recognize this problem very clearly, mainly according to the standards of the time, these people were also considered to be great good citizens!

People honestly go to work, pay taxes, go to church to worship, and do not break the law and discipline, at most they are only engaged in the traditional culture of their own nation in private, how can they not be said to be mobs?

But Ferdinand knew that this was before nationalism broke out, and after the First World War, nationalism exploded, and it would become a big problem, and it would be transformed into a fighter for liberalism in minutes.

……

Ferdinand thought for a while and said: "The decline in exports of processing and manufacturing to Russia has become a foregone conclusion, but this problem is not difficult to solve!"

The government should now notify domestic enterprises to prepare for transformation, reduce some production capacity in the short term, and start to switch from foreign trade to domestic sales!

As long as the dozen or so large enterprises in the country hold on, Bulgarian industry and commerce will also be stable!

The most troublesome thing is the issue of ethnic resettlement, and in view of the current grim situation, there are loopholes in the national integration plan we have formulated before!

Once the economic crisis breaks out in full swing, the government will definitely have to make a big move and resettle the people, and we now have to find a way to remove the instability in advance! ”

Everyone was stunned, obviously not keeping up with Ferdinand's leaping thinking!

Prime Minister Konstantin was the first to react and asked in surprise: "Your Majesty, are you going to start Plan B?" ”

In order to solve the national question, Bulgaria has developed three sets of plans, codenamed Plan A, B and C.

Plan A: A gentle national integration plan, after the expulsion of diehards, through natural economic and cultural exchanges, subtly achieve national integration;

Plan B: To forcefully unify the language, script, customs, and religious beliefs of the whole country through law, expel all dissidents, and use force to eliminate dissidents when necessary;

Plan C is based on the direct use of force to promote national integration when the first two options have failed. Since it is impossible to assimilate culturally, it is better to destroy it physically!

Plan C, basically, came in handy in the era of nationalism, and now the upper echelons of all ethnic groups in the Balkans have almost been killed, and the fish that slipped through the net do not dare to come forward, there are really not many people who dare to rebel without a leader!

All three of these methods are very feasible in the Balkans!

The most crucial reason is that of the more than 11.4 million people in Bulgaria, minus more than 2 million people who were expelled, the majority of the remaining people are Bulgarians.

And the other parts are also a large number of ethnic groups, large and small more than a dozen ethnic groups, the number of fewer is only a few tens of thousands, the number of people is only seven or eight hundred thousand, except for the Bulgarians, there is no more than one million ethnic groups!

Those who are going to be expelled do not count!

More importantly, a considerable part of these peasants did not yet have a national consciousness, and no one could determine which nationality they were, so they were all Bulgarianized!

"That's right, let's use legal means directly, we don't have so much energy to spend and eliminate hidden dangers in the shortest possible time!" Ferdinand said after a moment's thought

Prime Minister Konstantin thought about it and said fiercely: "It's true, the government's workload is already very large, if the economic crisis breaks out, we simply don't have the energy to deal with these problems, once it is used by people with intentions, it is likely to cause us big trouble in the future!"

In that case, then our cabinet will immediately draw up a detailed law and submit it to the National Assembly for approval! ”

Ferdinand nodded in satisfaction, and Konstantin's initiative to jump out of the cauldron was very much in line with his wishes.

As the greatest saint in Bulgaria's history, how can he do such tainted things?

As soon as this law was introduced, Bulgaria did not say that there was a river of blood, and it was only a small matter to cut off 800 heads of thousands of children!

There will be tens of thousands of people who, for the sake of inheritance, will leave their homeland and embark on the road of no return to the Ottoman Empire!

Then, the Bulgarian parliament once again used their efficiency to show the world what it means to be fast!

Immediately after the end of the cabinet meeting, an extraordinary session of the Bulgarian parliament was convened the next day to consider the issue of Plan B.

There is no doubt that those who can become members of the parliament are great Bulgarians, and the enactment of a completely Bulgarian law is in line with everyone's proposition, and naturally they are in favor of it with both hands, and of course other peoples are represented!

After the Extraordinary Diet approves Plan B, the specific rules will be handed over to the Cabinet for tossing, which can be tried and amended at the same time, and then submitted to the Diet for review.

In fact, the members of Congress have jobs, are very busy, and they are not professionals, so it is too embarrassing for them to study the legal provisions!

Time flies, another three days have passed, and a "Law on Religion in the Bulgarian Language" has been released!

The contents include: 1. All Bulgarian citizens must use the Bulgarian language in public places, such as: schools, governments, hospitals, and stations;

Any public official in the Bulgarian parliament, government, and army must be proficient in the Bulgarian language, script.

2. All Bulgarian citizens must believe in God, and religious persecution is forbidden by choosing which branch is at will. (Even if it is a circle of letters from each branch in one day, it is legal)

The content is not much, but the scope is very broad.

The standard use of the first language is enough to make it difficult for other languages to survive in Bulgaria, and it is simply difficult to move an inch without knowing Bulgarian!

The second religion is even more powerful, which directly makes ** have no place to stay. If you are converted to God, is it still **?

Then these two decrees were immediately implemented throughout Bulgaria, and Ferdinand thought that the great national upheaval had not come, and most of the people had an indifferent expression!

Except for a big backlash in some areas, but they have long been under military control, and the goods that were supposed to leave, Ferdinand didn't care about their lives or deaths, and the movement was bloodily suppressed as soon as possible.

In other areas, there is a lot of discussion, as if they are protesting with their mouths! No, it should be venting the dissatisfaction in my heart, but there are few who are willing to sign up and leave!

Well, in fact, Ferdinand miscalculated, otherwise he would not have gone around in such a big circle and let the cabinet carry the black pot and the Congress endorse!

Cultural traditions may be important to scholars, and for ordinary people, Bulgaria is a holy place where they can eat well!

Since hearing that the consequence of breaking the law is to be repatriated to the Ottoman Empire, everyone decisively chose to remain silent. They're going to have bread anyway!

In contrast, religious belief is the key, but they believe in God in the first place, and Bulgarian law seems to them to be nothing more than an emphasis on religious freedom!
