Chapter 4: Talent

The cart sped along the tracks like a roller coaster, eventually carrying Carl, Nick, and a goblin to a newly opened underground vault belonging to Carl.

Carl watched as Nick, who had been vomiting for a while, put 10,000 gold galleons into the vault under the guidance of a goblin, piled them up into a small mountain, and grabbed a few handfuls from them and put them in a small bag.

Then, the three of them returned to the ground in the cart - Nick threw up again.

Taking advantage of this moment, Carl took the key to the vault directly from the goblin and was about to put it in his pocket, but Louise snatched it.

"I'll keep it for you. She said.

Carl rolled his eyes, and sure enough, he was overthinking.

Here, after vomiting twice, Nick seemed to be reborn, completely adapted to the environment of the wizarding world, and no longer had the same tension as before.

With his head held high, he walked out of Gringotts with Carl and Louise first.

As they exited the gate, an Asian girl and her parents walked into Gringotts and passed by the Carls.

Carl's mind was on something else, and he didn't care too much.

Out of Gringotts, Nick pulled out the list of books and equipment that came with the Hogwarts acceptance letter, "Let me see where we go first." ”

Louise leaned in, and the two looked at each other for a moment, and Nick said, "I think wands are a good choice." ”

There was excitement in his eyes, as if he couldn't wait to see Carl cast a spell with his wand.

Carl shook his head, "I have a better option. He said with a smile and a light in his eyes.

Nick and Louise shuddered involuntarily - the last time Carl had such a look was when they bought him a computer.

......

At the Blotted bookstore, Carl's eyes lit up as he looked at the mountains of books in front of him.

If you travel to the world of martial arts, the magic books in front of you can be called magic cheats.

Countless experiences through the past have taught Carl one thing, magic is knowledge. And if you want to gain knowledge, you have to look for it in books. In contrast, wands are less important.

"That copy of "Enchanting Your Cheese," that book of "Conjuring a Table," and this book of "How Prefects Get Their Rights," Carl said, pointing to three books.

"10 Galleons 5 Sico. The clerk quoted the price with ease.

"—Give me one of each of the books except these three!"

The clerk was stunned for a long time before he reacted, looking at Carl like a monster, and behind him, Nick and Louise covered their faces, as if they knew it was so.

"How about I just give these books as my Christmas present. Carl turned to Nick and Louise expectantly.

Ten minutes later, Carl walked out of the bookstore discouraged, holding a stack of first-grade textbooks and two books he had carefully selected.

In the end, he was unable to achieve the feat of emptying the entire Blotted Bookstore, as Nick and Louise told him that his budget for his birthday present was only £100, which was only 20 Galleons, which was only enough to buy two copies.

Nick and Lois seem to be afraid that Carl will cause trouble with his birthday present, so they strictly limit the budget for Carl's birthday gift.

20 Galleons is not a small amount, but books in the wizarding world are too expensive, especially when it comes to magical knowledge.

Damn copyright protection!, Carl cursed inwardly.

Then he focused on the book in his hand, and he didn't even rush to buy his wand.

Nick and Louise looked at each other helplessly, and could only watch from left to right, for fear that he would trip up.

Carl held a first-grade copy of Theories of Magic and read it all the way until the light around him dimmed and he had to close it.

He didn't look directly at those two carefully selected birthday presents because he knew the importance of the foundation better than anyone else in this world.

Carl looked around, and realized that he didn't know when he had arrived at a shop full of long boxes.

The shop was dimly lit, and a buzzing sound of unknown origin sounded in Carl's ears, like countless mosquitoes flying in his ears.

But when he listened carefully, he couldn't hear anything.

"Good afternoon. A soft voice said, startling Nick and Louise.

Karl looked curiously at the old man in front of him, and the old man was also looking at him. The two looked at each other for a few moments, until Nick broke the silence.

"Uh, hello. Nick said, "I want to buy my son a wand." ”

"Oh, yes, of course," the old man reluctantly looked away from Carl and said to Nick, "every little wizard who comes to Ollivander comes to buy a wand. ”

After all, he had even taken out his tape measure and was ready to start measuring Karl.

"Which hand are you used to?" asked the old man.

"Left and right. Carl said.

Curiously, Carl noticed that Ollivander didn't make the ruler work automatically, as in the original book, but was measuring him manually.

Karl frowned without a trace, but he didn't think much about it, maybe the old man was in a good mood today, and maybe he wanted to do it himself.

At the same time, Ollivanders also said the words: "Every Ollivanders wand has a super magical substance, and this is its essence." We used unicorn fur, phoenix tail feathers, and dragon nerves. Every Ollivanders wand is unique, as no two unicorns, dragons, or phoenixes are exactly the same. Of course, if you use a wand that is supposed to belong to another wizard, you will never have such a good effect. ”

After the lines were finished, the old man's work was done, and he began to take his wand from the shelf.

"Then, Mr. Cooper, try this, the vine wood, the dragon's heart tendon cord. ”

Karl took his wand and asked, "How do you know my name?" ”

From the beginning to the present, he has never said his name, and neither Nick nor Louise have spoken.

"Dumbledore spoke of you, a gifted young wizard. Ollivander said.

Karl looked into Ollivander's eyes, and the old man's gaze was a little evasive, obviously not telling the truth.

But he still nodded, agreeing with the old man's explanation, but secretly remembering the matter in his heart.

With his wand in his hand, Karl's ears buzzed again, and he even felt a slight vibration coming from the wand itself.

What the hell was this? Karl remembered that there was no such thing in the books, at least not from Harry's point of view.

He looked at Nick and Louise, and then at Ollivanders, all three of them didn't seem to react, and it seemed that he was the only one who felt that way.

Holding his wand, Karl was about to wave it, but was snatched by Ollivanders.

As soon as the wand was out of his hand, the vibration was gone, but the humming was still there, and it wasn't until Ollivander put it back in its place, and the sound that belonged to the wand reclaimed was mixed into the crowd of sounds, never to be found again.

Next, Karl tried several more wands, each with their own unique sound.

Carl finally understood what was going on, remembered something, and involuntarily laughed.

In the original books, only Dumbledore showed this ability, but it was somewhat inexplicable from Harry Potter's point of view.

In the sixth part, Dumbledore takes Harry to the cave where Voldemort's Horcruxes are hidden, and once detects traces of Voldemort's spell casting through some means.

Clearly, what Karl was aware of now were traces of magic, or fluctuations would be more appropriate.

Judging by the original, it seems that few wizards possess this ability, and Carl is happy, really happy. Anyone who knows that they have a good talent will feel happy.

Of course, from the perspective of the original book, this talent can be described as more than just "good".
