Chapter XVI. Population

The current division of labor is that Ferdinand is responsible for digging scientists, and government departments are responsible for digging engineers. After all, it is much more effective for ordinary engineers to talk about treatment with them than to talk about ideals!

Now the Bulgarian government has basically followed the principle of buying equipment in large countries and poaching talents in small countries!

There are many small countries on the European continent, and many small countries are still awesome in modern times, and there is still a background. Historically, the United States developed by absorbing the talents of these small countries at the beginning of the 20th century!

Like senior engineers, warship designers, etc., Spain, the Netherlands, Portugal and other countries are not lacking, although not necessarily how strong the ability is, but it is enough for Bulgaria to lay the foundation.

In Ferdinand's view, the industrial equipment that was copied in the economic crisis was secondary, and the absorption of talents was the key, for which Ferdinand also approved a "Bulgarian Talent Introduction Law".

As long as it is a qualified talent, it is completely preferential, and all the restrictions on naturalization are zero, and you can join unconditionally, and there is a settling-in allowance issued by the government!

It can be said that Ferdinand also took great pains to introduce talents!

By the end of 1903, the Bulgarian government had spent as much as 8 million pounds on the introduction of talents, and more than 2,000 people had been introduced.

Of course, most of them are ordinary engineers, and there are still very few high-level talents who really have weight, and there are only twenty or thirty people who can enter Ferdinand's eyes!

However, the price paid by Ferdinand was worth it, and by the end of 1904, the industrial equipment purchased from various countries was running normally, and the total industrial volume of the Kingdom of Bulgaria directly surpassed that of Belgium and the same as that of the Kingdom of Spain!

Of course, this number is watery, and the Kingdom of Spain is not in a state at all, first it was repaired by the Americans, and a large number of colonies were lost, and it has not yet eased its breath, and then it caught up with the economic crisis, and its vitality was greatly damaged!

……

These are things for the future, and now Ferdinand is busy dealing with domestic problems.

At the end of 1901, the annual conference on emigration in Bulgaria was held.

Prime Minister Konstantin reported to Ferdinand: "Your Majesty, our exchange of populations with the Ottoman Empire has now been completed.

As of August this year, we have brought back all the Bulgarians living in the Ottoman Empire, totaling more than 4.38 million people; More than 2.74 million Turks were repatriated to the Ottoman Empire.

These returnees have been scattered and resettled all over the country, and their employment problems have been basically solved so far.

Beginning in 1897 and up to the present day, we have spent a total of 860 million leva on this great migration.

This also includes the cost of the repatriation of the Turks of 120 million leva, which was also paid in advance by us due to the inaction of the Ottoman Empire!

Of the remaining part of the expenditure, the cost of immigration is about 260 million leva, job placement and housing problems for migrants, and living allowances issued by the government are a total of 480 million leva! ”

This population figure was a big difference from what had been expected, but Ferdinand didn't think it was a problem. It was estimated by the population of the Ottoman Empire before, and there was an error of hundreds of thousands, which shows that the Ottoman officials in charge of this work are already very conscientious!

Ferdinand asked with concern: "How is the life of immigrants now?" ”

"The lives of the immigrants before 1901 have been normalized, and although the standard of living of some of them is still lower than the national average, it is still higher than that of them during the Ottoman Empire, and now there is no problem with having enough to eat!" Konstantin replied

That's right, the resettlement standard set by Ferdinand is based on having enough to eat, and as for the question of making a fortune, it is not a problem for him to consider now!

"Is the demographic complete?" Ferdinand asked again

Konstantin thought for a moment and said, "It's roughly done, but the specific numbers are still being sorted out."

According to our preliminary judgment, by the end of 1901, the total population of Bulgaria was about 13.4 million.

Mainly include: the original Bulgarian 4.3 million; After the Balkan Wars, there were more than 7 million new territories, 4 million immigrants from the Ottoman Empire, and natural population growth, and of course we moved more than 3 million people outward.

After the Balkan Wars, we had a total population of 11.43 million people, and after the war we sent 360,000 people to the Kingdom of Montenegro and repatriated more than 2.74 million people to the Ottoman Empire.

So minus the 3.1 million people, we also received 4.38 million immigrants from the Ottoman Empire.

Add to this the natural increase in population, and in the four years from 1897 to the present, we have added about 700,000 people.

According to preliminary calculations, our total population is about 13.39 million. Of course, there may be discrepancies in the actual situation, but the total error will not exceed 50,000! ”

Ferdinand nodded with satisfaction, this population figure has reached his initial expectations, as long as this part of the population is digested, Bulgaria's strength will definitely change dramatically!

Of course, it will take time to really digest all this, and on the surface, the immigrants from the Ottoman Empire are all the main ethnic group - Bulgarians, which is very easy to digest!

In fact, how many other nationalities have been mixed in, no one can say this!

In the last census, there were 1.8 million Bulgarians in the Balkans, and Ferdinand could still roughly estimate how much water there was, and a six percent discount would be about the same.

Well, on the surface, among the more than 13 million people in Bulgaria, there are more than 10 million Bulgarians alone, and the majority of the main ethnic groups account for the majority, and the proportion of the population is very healthy.

Ferdinand was sure that this figure was the result of water being filled and then filled with water, and if seven or eight of them were original, it would be all thankful!

But knowing that Ferdinand has absolutely no intention of debunking, anyway, if there are too many lies, it will become the truth. After a decade or twenty, a new generation grows up, and they are truly Bulgarians!

Ferdinand nodded and said, "Yes! The next step is to issue new ID cards to the whole country, and in principle, we will follow the principle of voluntariness and register the nation!

In this regard, governments at all levels must be prepared to go deep into every village and count the ethnic composition of our country as accurately as possible, which is related to the long-term peace and stability of Bulgaria in the future! ”

Well, Ferdinand is going to be Bulgarized again, and according to the current division criteria in the "History of the Origin of the Bulgarian Nation", there are really very few people in Bulgaria who do not belong to the Great Bulgarian Nation!

Sending government officials deep into the countryside is, of course, to do brainwashing work. First of all, instill in the people a concept that everyone is Bulgarian, and the reason why there are multiple nationalities is that this is all made by the Ottoman Empire in order to facilitate the rule!

Anyway, ordinary people in this era are easy to fool, and they can't figure out the truth or falsehood if they take it as history. Don't talk about them, even some historians have been tricked into it!

"Yes!" Konstantin replied in the affirmative

Ferdinand's enthusiastic plan to establish a greater Bulgarian nation is now supported. The endless national uprisings in the Ottoman Empire are a proper example of the opposite!
