Chapter 14: The Great Bulgarians
The British, having pounced in Paris and not getting the desired result, set their sights on St. Petersburg in an attempt to gain the support of the Russians.
The Russians were still very respectful and agreed to participate in the commission of inquiry organized by the British, but their attitude on the Armenian question was very different from that of the British.
Nicholas II expressed no interest in the Ottoman massacre of Armenians, the Russian Empire has done a lot of this kind of thing, and there are not a few who have gone too far than the Turks!
The main concern of the Russians is the Black Sea straits, but after the last Russo-Turkish war, the strategy of the Russian government changed and shifted the center of gravity to the east, which became even more obvious after Nicholas II came to power.
The Russian Empire could tolerate this important road, in the hands of the declining Ottoman Empire, or rather, in the hands of any weak country, and even after the Bulgarian War, the calls for the Bulgarians to take control of the Black Sea straits were not low! (Historically, Russia once supported Bulgaria's seizure of Constantinople)
However, Ferdinand was not sure if this was a test by the Russian government to Bulgaria, and in line with safety first, he refused on the grounds that the Bulgarian navy was not strong!
Obviously, the plans of the British have failed again! The Russians did salivate over Constantinople, but after many successive defeats, the Russian government did not trust the British and suspected that the British had bad intentions!
What's more, now Russia's Far East strategy is at a critical moment, the British supported Japan in the Sino-Japanese War, and Nicholas II believes that the importance of the Far East strategy is far higher than the Armenian question!
Nicholas II made the same judgment as in history, believing that the British wanted to tie the hands of the Russian Empire with the crisis in the near East in order to sabotage the Russian Empire's Far Eastern strategy.
What's more, now the Russian Empire has an extra brother, and there is still Bulgaria in the Balkans, a thug, even if there is an accident, it is under control.
The attitude of the Russian Empire, which completely declared the bankruptcy of the Near Eastern policy of the British!
In April 1895, the British, French, and Russian ambassadors to Turkey jointly drafted the Plan for the Reform of the Armenian Provinces, which was very modest and very limited in content.
However, it was opposed by Russian Foreign Minister Lobanov, who claimed that the Armenians would not be satisfied unless reforms were carried out throughout the Turkish-Asian region.
Lobanov's decision, Ferdinand couldn't help but praise him, it was really well done, the Russian Empire was equivalent to standing on the side of the Sultan, and the British Near East policy collapsed!
Due to the outbreak of the Anglo-Boer War in South Africa, the intensification of Anglo-German contradictions, the unequivocal refusal of the Germans to participate in the British Near East strategy, the partition plan of the Marquis of Salisbury, did not receive the support of any of the great powers.
As for individual intervention, well! The Royal Navy of the British Empire is the first in the world! Army? It's so-so, while suppressing the vast colony, it is already a super level to be able to launch an attack on the Boers!
If you come over and fight the Ottoman Empire again, it is not certain who fights whom, and if other powers make another black hand, Egypt, which has already been obtained, may not be able to keep it!
It was only here that Ferdinand breathed a deep sigh of relief, since he succeeded to the throne, one of the biggest crises in Bulgaria had passed in the midst of turbulent waves!
Turning his attention back to China, although the Baosai War was over, the problems of the later period still existed.
In 1894, because of the outbreak of war, the Bulgarian government invested a total of hundreds of millions of dollars. In addition to the war expenses, the biggest expenditure was spent on public relations!
Fortunately, the military made a fortune in Serbia to make up for the losses, and later the pension was offset with land, saving tens of millions of funds, otherwise the government would have to consider selling real estate to get by.
There are not even a few people in the newly added land, so how much is the so-called real estate worth? In addition to land, the real estate in the city is estimated to be unsellable at the price of cabbage, and no matter how cheap it is, someone has to buy it!
Even so, Bulgaria's financial situation is still very bad. In order to raise money, the cabinet is about to turn white!
The "Second Five-Year Plan" must continue to be unfolded, and the progress of the delay must catch up; The new land needs to be developed, immigrants need to be introduced, and the railway and road networks must be extended.
All of this required a lot of money, and thankfully, the immigrants that Ferdinand brought in at the beginning were honest farmers, and nothing was messy. Otherwise, the Bulgarian government will really fry the pot!
The Armenian problem also frightened many people, including the Bulgarian government, which fortunately sent all the Serbs back, otherwise it would have been a fuss again one day.
The Bulgarians themselves are experienced in this area, and there are many people in the government who have participated in the Bulgarian independence movement, and everyone knows what is going on with these businesses!
Now the primary and secondary are different, the ass decides the head, the Armenians are fighting for independence in the Ottoman Empire, and everyone is sympathetic and supportive.
But if someone wants to come to Bulgaria once, then the attitude is different and must be put an end to the cradle!
Ferdinand's "Bulgarian strategy" was implemented more rapidly, and the government introduced a series of supporting policies. Like what:
Restrictions have been set for naturalization of non-Bulgarians (except for high-level talents); Bulgarians are given priority in education, health care, etc.; The Government gives priority to Bulgarian nationals in the recruitment of public officials......
What's even more bizarre is that this "Bulgarian" is no longer a "traditional Bulgarian", he is not divided by blood!
As long as you consider yourself Bulgarian, and you are willing to accept the rule of the Bulgarian government, and you are willing to learn the Bulgarian language and culture, you are Bulgarian!
To put it simply, every Bulgarian can be Bulgarian, no matter what race you are, you can be Bulgarian! Even if you are dark-skinned or yellow-skinned, as long as you recognize everything in Bulgaria and are willing to give up your original racial identity, the Bulgarian government will treat everyone equally, and will never engage in racial discrimination!
Broadly speaking, the Bulgarian government is downplaying the concept of nationality, using language and national customs to divide the same people in a broad sense, perhaps Bulgarians are more appropriate to call them!
Anyway, Bulgarians are also mixed-race, from ancient times to the present, thousands of years, no one knows how many races of blood flow in their bodies, and then make a "big Bulgarian", everyone has no pressure!
