Section 32: Spoils of War
Sir Hilton raised his great sword and slashed, and the robber who couldn't dodge was chopped to the ground, blood splattered on Sir Hilton's blouse, and he took a breath and wiped the sword on the robber's corpse and retracted the scabbard.
"Mistress are you alright?" Sir Hilton strode towards Louise, who shook her head to indicate that she was fine, but she looked at the fallen knight next to the van.
"Whew, whew, whew." Bruce held the sword in both hands, his hands trembling and then weakly lowered, his body was only a teenager after all.
"My lord, are you hurt?" Anne hurriedly ran to Bruce's side, hugged Bruce and asked.
Bruce waved his hand at Anne, he looked at the robbers who were killed on the ground with some curiosity, he didn't expect so many robbers to gather on the border, he said his doubts, the knights didn't know much about it, but the question was answered by Louise.
"I've heard that there is a famine in many territories, and the farmland in the royal territories has no harvest due to drought, so these robbers must be serfs who are wandering around without food!" Louise looked at the dead bodies and said to Bruce.
"Serfs?" Bruce looked at the corpses, no wonder these robbers were outnumbered but unbeatable, they were all scrawny.
"By the way, I haven't asked you how you knew it was a trap?" Louise was interested in Bruce seeing through the bandits' trap, and they didn't think there was anything wrong with the merchant who had fallen next to the wagon.
"It was the old man's eyes, not at all like a businessman, his eyes were too fierce, and when he saw us, not only did he not have a desire to be rescued, but he had a look of excitement." Bruce explained to Louise.
"Well, I see." After Bruce's reminder, Louise also remembered that the old man's eyes were wrong, but at that time, they only saw the truck lying to the side, and the wound on the old man's forehead, so they didn't care about anything else.
"Mistress Roger is dead." Sir Hilton looked at the fallen knight and shook his head regretfully to Louise.
"May the Lord God have mercy on his soul and let him rest." There was a sadness in Louise's eyes, but she quickly recovered, and said lightly.
Bruce saw Edward curled up under a tree, and he walked towards Edward, only to see that the pale knight's face was even paler, and his spirit was very sluggish.
"Are you alright?" Although he was very dissatisfied with Edward's combat performance, Bruce looked at Edward's pitiful appearance and couldn't help but comfort him.
"Blood, a lot of blood, I'm sorry lord." Edward smiled bitterly, and he hugged his head, burying it between his knees.
"Aren't you a knight, haven't you ever fought?" Bruce crouched in front of Edward, he now completely doubted the identity of this wandering knight, how could a knight not dare to fight for fear of blood.
"Actually, I get dizzy when I see blood, and even when I fight, I mostly use blunt weapons." Edward looked up and explained to Bruce, his hand pulling out a pendant around his neck, on which hung an oak ring, and Edward's hand rubbed the wooden ring carefully.
"Sickness!" Bruce opened his mouth, he looked at Edward in surprise, he didn't expect that he would encounter such a strange symptom in this era, and he was a knight who was supposed to fight.
Edward's explanation dispelled Bruce's doubts, and even if he wanted to fire Edward now, it wouldn't help, not to mention that he had paid fifteen silver coins for it.
"Alright, Lady Louise, if you don't suggest it, then I'm going to start cleaning up the battlefield." Bruce looked at the fallen robbers' corpses and said to Lady Louise.
"Are you going to clean up the battlefield?" Hearing Bruce's words, Louise and the knights were taken aback, the so-called cleaning of the battlefield was to take the spoils of war from the corpses, and the nobles generally disdained to do such things.
But Bruce didn't seem to have any worries about this, he forced Edward to look for loot from the corpses, and the huntress Eve happily joined the team to touch the corpses, only Anne refused because she was timid, Mavis didn't want to get her hands dirty, and Louise and the others stared at them with wide eyes.
"Cleaning the battlefield and touching the corpses is the most enjoyable thing to fight." A smile tugged at the corner of Bruce's lips, he remembered his college experience playing online games with his roommates, and the hard quest tasks he had to work on all night, and finally get the loot, and the tired body and mind could only be satisfied.
Eventually, Bruce gets some loot after cleaning up the battlefield.
Three worn-out cashmere hats, five crooked spears, three rusty knives, and ten copper pesos.
"It's a pity, if we can stay alive, maybe we can find their lair, and maybe get more things." Bruce rubbed his hands together and told Edward to place the loot on the wooden wagon.
"Your lord, you're really not wasting anything." Louise didn't know what to say to the young lord, she said with a wry smile and shaking her head.
"Dear lady, my territory is very poor, how can I live a life without being careful." Bruce tied up the spear and said to Louise disapprovingly.
Louise didn't expect that Bruce, who was a nobleman, did not have the reserve of an aristocrat at all, but this kind of very simple words were very realistic, much stronger than many boastful nobles, thinking of this, Louise whispered a few words to Sir Hilton.
"Do you really want to do that?" Sir Hilton looked up in surprise and glanced at his mistress as Louise nodded at him.
When Bruce and the others had sorted out the loot, they saw Sir Hilton strip the dead knight's armor off, and they placed the knight's body on the back of his mount, but carried the armor and put it on the wagon.
"What's going on?" Bruce asked, puzzled.
"If it weren't for your help this time, Lord Lord, I might have suffered misfortune, this is the armor left by Sir Roger, I will give it to you, I hope that Lord Lord, you can uphold the heroic spirit of Knight Roger." Louise said to Bruce.
"Do you really want to give it to me?" Bruce looked at the leather armor in front of him, which was an armor sewn from hundreds of tough pieces of cowhide, inlaid with iron pieces in key parts such as the heart, and the bright color was also very beautiful, and the armor skirt at the hem directly protected the thighs.
"Please take it!" Louise smiled slightly and nodded, this complete armor was worth at least a hundred silver coins, which was a great gift.
"Thank you very much." Bruce stood up solemnly and placed his right hand on his chest to thank the generous aristocratic lady.
The group passed through the gray forest, left the dark forest that covered the sky, and everyone's mood was much better, basking in the warm sun, Anne couldn't help but sing happily, it was a slang song from her hometown, but her clear singing voice made everyone listen to it fascinated.
"Ahh I would like to invite you to my home. Louise said to Anne with a smile.
"Well, I haven't been to any other nobleman's house except for Locke Manor and the lord's house!" Anne's beautiful eyes widened, she said with a look of curiosity and excitement, but after blurting out, she hurriedly looked at Bruce, her identity is Bruce's personal maid, that is, Bruce's vassal, how can there be a master who accepts the invitation without opening his mouth.
"Huh." Louise smiled and looked at Bruce, only to see Bruce pet Annie's little head dotingly.
"Can we have the honour of inviting Lady Louise to Grington first?" Bruce said to Louise.
"I'm very willing, but I've been busy at home recently, but I will definitely go if I have the opportunity to spare." Louise happily accepts Bruce's invitation, but soon they come to a fork in the road, and the time of separation comes.
At the fork in the road, the team split into two teams, and after Bruce saluted Louise on his horse, Louise turned his horse and galloped away with the knights, leaving only a faint back.
