Section 98: "Robber" invasion
Bruce took the risk to take in the serfs for a reason, since the battle with James, although he obtained new equipment and weapons from James, but the population of Glynton has dropped a lot, and it is useless to have no soldiers with the best equipment.
"The ash has arrived, ready and cement ready to build the walls." Bruce said to Stukov and the others.
"I see, but I'm still worried, you took in the fugitive slaves of other lords, what if the other party comes to ask you for someone?" Stukov nodded, but said with some concern.
"So we're going to speed up the construction of the walls." Bruce didn't take this matter to heart, and if other lords came to ask for it, it would be a big deal to pay some money for compensation.
"Lord Bruce, Lord Bruce, it's not good." But no sooner had Bruce finished speaking than Edward and Eve ran in from outside the walls, their expressions flustered.
"What's wrong?" Bruce frowned, feeling a bad premonition in his heart.
"Someone has attacked our villagers, and several people have already been injured." Edward said to Bruce.
"Jack is dead." Eve had a little blood on her body, but it wasn't hers, it was the dead villager in her mouth.
"What? We were attacked, why didn't the sirens sound? Bruce was taken aback, every villager was now an important laborer, and there were sentinels on the city walls, and if they detected an enemy attack, they would ring the iron pieces on the arrow towers to sound an alarm.
"Don't blame them, those attackers ambushed the villagers in the forest, there are so few of them that they won't be found from the walls at all." Eve explained to Bruce.
"Beima, what is it that attacks us?" Bruce was annoyed that he had just repelled James' attack, and now he had another enemy.
A soldier immediately led the horse from the stable, Bruce mounted his mount with the sword of courage hanging from his waist, Eve and the others hurriedly followed him, and the group headed in the direction of the forest.
As he reached the edge of one of Greenton's few forests, Bruce saw some of the villagers, men, women, and children, all of them with panic on their faces, helping each other out.
"Where are those enemies?" Bruce asked loudly at the villagers.
"Oh, my lord, we're saved."
"Yes, my lord." When the villagers saw Bruce appear, they all ran happily to tell each other, and Bruce, who defeated the baron, is now a hero in the hearts of the villagers.
"My lord, those bad guys are still in the forest." A young boy who had been collecting berries and mushrooms in the forest with his sister was attacked by a group of "robbers" and his sister was wounded, so he was furious.
"Edward, Stukov come with me." Bruce jumped off his horse, drew the sword at his waist, and said to Stukov and the others who ran after him.
"Damn bastards, I'm going to take off their skulls to use as urinals." Stukov pulled out the dagger at his waist, and a fierce look appeared in his single eye.
"Hahaha, that's really our pirate style." Shield Splitter Danny also strode over, carrying a wooden shield and axe, and when he heard that there was an invasion of "bandits" in his territory, the pirates who liked to join in the fun certainly couldn't let go of this opportunity.
Bruce glanced back at his companion who had followed, he carried the sword in his hand into the forest, and Edward and the others hurriedly followed, fearing that he would be in danger.
The forest was silent, not even the sound of birds, it was like a graveyard, and in the bushes a group of soldiers from Jeffrey's territory were lurking, and after causing chaos, they did not flee.
"Phoebe-sama, why don't we retreat, we've done our job." The archer on the side looked at the nobleman who was half-crouching behind the bushes and asked curiously.
"Don't worry, I'm going to be willing to fight a big prey." Aristocrat Phoebe had a stick of grass in his mouth, his blue eyes staring closely out of the forest, and in fact he was not satisfied with the task so easily.
Usually the lord will not open the forest to the serfs, except for being able to collect a little dry firewood, any hunting or collecting berries and mushrooms in the liege's forest will be considered theft, the light will be cut off wrists, and the heavy will be hanged at the village crossing.
However, the forest of Grington is very lively, and many serfs happily pick up mushrooms and berries in the forest, as if they are not afraid of being punished by the lord's decree, which makes Phoebe's plan to get close to Glinton's village fail.
"But aren't we going to retaliate with a tooth for a tooth?" The archer blinked in confusion, Jeffrey's order was to take revenge on Glynton and kill a few of Grinton's serfs to teach Bruce a lesson, which they had already done, so they should have fled before the Glintons could react.
"Can killing a few serfs satisfy the lord? No, we have to kill one or two of them. Phoebe snorted, he didn't want to be thrown off the walls by the kin-lovers or locked up in a dark dungeon.
"Brush." A voice sounded in the bushes in the forest, and ten of the militiamen who had come to teach Glynton a lesson to Jeffrey hurriedly bent down to avoid being discovered.
"Where the hell are those bastards?" Bruce cut through the grass with his sword, and wore a semi-enclosed helmet on his head, the spoils of war captured from James' knights.
"Phoebe-sama, look at the helmet, this should be a nobleman, right?" Jeffrey's archer, seeing Bruce emerging from the forest, looked at the shining iron helmet, and he said excitedly.
"Catch him, catch a nobleman in exchange for ransom." Phoebe licked her lips excitedly, and he beckoned to his men to capture Bruce alive, but they didn't know that it was Grimm's lord in front of them.
Several of Jeffrey's militiamen immediately grabbed their spears in their hands, and they bent down to surround Bruce from different directions, and the strange noise around him also caught Bruce's attention, and he clenched his sword and looked around.
"Who the hell, get out of here!" Bruce pointed his sword at them and yelled at them.
"Haha, noble lord, you have been surrounded by us, you are not our opponent, it is better to surrender obediently!"
"yes, or we'll blow your pretty head up." Another militiaman, with yellow teeth, grabbed a spear in his hand and walked out through the grass.
Bruce looked at the "robbers" who appeared around him, and said that the robbers were very well equipped with their status, their bodies were wrapped in half-worn leather armor, and they wore small round iron helmets of inferior quality, and they held rusty spears in their hands.
