Chapter 1: The End of the War
On November 16, 1894, the Serbian government, which had been forced to do so, finally compromised, and the foreign minister in Vienna reluctantly signed the treaty!
At this point, the Second Bulgarian War came to an end with the complete victory of Bulgaria!
The treaty states:
1. Serbia admits defeat in the war and bears full responsibility for this war;
2. Surrender the main war criminals of the First Bulgarian War;
3. Cedion to Bulgaria of Serbia ~ a territory of about 18,000 square kilometers south of the Moravar River, including Niš;
4. To pay Bulgaria war reparations of 230 million leva, to offset the war reparations with the assets of the Serbs in the territory south of the Moravar River, taking into account the financial difficulties of the Serbian government;
5. After the signing of the peace treaty, the Bulgarian army lifted the siege of Belgrade within 24 hours and withdrew all from Serbia within a month;
6. Within three months after the signing of the peace treaty, the Bulgarian army handed over all prisoners of war to the Serbian government;
7. The Government of Serbia undertakes not to take any measures against Bulgaria and to ban all radical organizations;
……
There are 78 articles in the armistice treaty, and all kinds of matters are dealt with, big and small.
However, it is the third and fourth articles that really involve the core interests, and the treaty legally clarifies Bulgaria's ownership of the territory of the Moraval River, as well as the ownership of property in this territory!
The rest of the treaty seemed to Ferdinand to be used to make up the numbers!
For example, the first one, Serbia admits defeat and is responsible for the war, of course it is responsible for losing the war, admitting defeat is not just talking, who will take it seriously? If there is strength, who can guarantee that the Serbs will not fight back!
The second is purely funny, the war criminals of this war don't ask, but pursue the last war? And there's not even a specific list, isn't it just for show?
Not to mention the fifth and sixth articles, the long-term blockade of Serbia is really easy to provoke when the great powers are to be provoked?
Unlike the mountains and hills in the south, the terrible Austro-Hungarian sphere of influence in the north would not have been able to even manage the military if it hadn't been for Ferdinand's lavish spending in Vienna!
Not to mention the handover of prisoners, the daily eating, drinking, and sleeping of more than 100,000 people is also a large expense. Considering international public opinion, and they can't be used as coolies, who wants to do it for nothing?
Article 7 banning radical organizations, no matter how Ferdinand sees it, it seems to have been signed for Austria-Hungary, doesn't this create an opportunity for them to annex Serbia?
……
As soon as the content of the treaty reached Sofia, Ferdinand immediately ratified it! I got everything I could get my hands on, and other details, just give in!
In comparison, the Serbian government is much more pressurized, everyone avoids it, and no one wants to get involved with this!
Alexander I was not a fool either, why should such a large cauldron resist on his own? If you want to hide, then let's fight together, no one wants to run, collective resolution!
Whether it is a member of parliament or a government official, as long as there is one in Belgrade, it must be signed and agreed! It doesn't matter if you're not there, it's okay to empower your family members to do it for you!
So the funny scene appeared, after the Serbs brought the treaty back, because there were too many people to approve the signature, and there were not enough places to sign, they had to add two more pages!
As soon as the treaty was established, the Bulgarian army lifted the siege of Belgrade and began to withdraw.
The Serbs, who had just breathed a sigh of relief, had not been happy for long before trouble ensued!
The Bulgarian army has been in conflict for a long time, and now although the withdrawal of troops has been ordered, the Bulgarian army still does not mind causing them a little trouble!
For example, if a fire breaks out in a city, it happens to burn down the granary and household registration information; Another example is the loss of a batch of seized weapons somewhere, which was picked up by some anti-government group......
Anyway, the Bulgarian army withdrew in a hurry, and the Serbian government was not notified to come and receive it, and then the local order was chaotic.
Especially when they have just migrated and immigrated, no one cares about it, and now it is a typical proletariat, with no assets, no jobs, no labor, and most importantly, no food!!
But they only have weapons, even if they are just some broken copper and iron, but they are also weapons, right?
If you don't have anything to eat, you have to look for something to eat! But you can't find a livelihood, so what should you do? Of course, I robbed it, anyway, I had a weapon in my hand, so I went to grab it from the local residents!
Anyway, a living person can't be suffocated by urine, and there's nothing that can't be done when you're hungry!!
By the time Serbian officials arrived, many cities were already in shambles, with murders, robberies, rapes and a series of crimes emerging one after another!
According to later statistics, the chaos caused by the lack of order brought greater losses to Serbia than when the Bulgarian army attacked!
Alexander I, now I don't know whether to cry or laugh!
Due to the invasion of the Bulgarians, Serbia was tossed to death, making his throne unstable; Also because of the mess left behind by the Bulgarian army when it left, no one dared to take over, and no one planned to launch a coup d'état now, he still sat on the throne!
From the declaration of war to the end, it took only 38 days, and in fact, the main battle between the two sides lasted even less, only a short week!
Serbia is completely broken! Financially, the dinar is not as high as the price of straw paper, and in the era of the gold standard, a currency without gold reserves is just a pile of waste paper!
In domestic politics, everyone is a loser, the Serbian government is a mess, whoever takes over is unlucky! In this case, let's leave the unlucky government to continue to do it, and take care of the trouble you cause!!
forced Alexander I in a hurry, and finally chose to ask Austria-Hungary for help, but now the Serbian government does not even have the ability to stabilize the domestic situation!
At least the problem of eating the people, they can't solve it themselves!
As for the conditions, there is no need to mention it now, the boss will look at it, I will promise anything, save the little brother first!
At this moment, it is the turn of the Vienna government to feel uncomfortable, and the Serbs have sent it to the door themselves, so do they want to annex it or not!?
Now the situation is that the Serbs want money, food, and troops! You read that right, in the absence of supplies, the Serbian government at this time does not even have the ability to send troops to stabilize the place!
The problem of eating hundreds of thousands of people needs to be solved urgently, and if we can't deal with this problem, all means are in vain!!
In the end, it was the board that was shot by Franz Joseph I, no matter what happened later, control Serbia first!!
