CHAPTER XXIV
The arrangement of the Vietnamese army was exactly as I imagined, and the 'firing' range of the AK47 and the dense forests on both sides determined that the Vietnamese army could only place the main force at a distance of more than 60 meters on both sides of the mountain road.
It is clear that the Vietnamese army has a lot of experience in ambushes. This can be seen from the arrangement of their firepower and the distance of more than sixty meters.
Their firepower is not simply to put a machine gun or AK47 at a high place, but the left and right sides cooperate with each other to form a 'cross' firepower, so that not only will not form a 'shooting' dead end, but also no matter which direction our troops attack, they will inevitably 'expose' their backs under the guns of the Vietnamese troops on the other side.
More than 60 meters, which is exactly the distance that our troops below cannot throw grenades, but the condescending Vietnamese troops can throw one grenade after another to the foot of the mountain without difficulty......
I believe that this is the ambush experience summed up by the Vietnamese army in its battles with the French and American forces. After all, their weapons and equipment are still some distance from those of the French and American armies. As a result, they were unable to fight the French and American forces head-on, and they used more methods of sneak attacks, ambushes, and guerrilla attacks to deal with the French and American forces.
It should be said that sneak attacks, ambushes, guerrilla ...... These are exactly the tactics that our Chinese People's Liberation Army is good at, and in addition, Sino-Vietnamese relations were very harmonious at that time, so China unselfishly taught the essentials and methods of these tactics to the Vietnamese army, not only directly sent a large number of military advisers to the Vietnamese army, but also directly trained command personnel in military academies in the interior. After learning these military theories from our army, the Vietnamese army quickly applied them to practice on the battlefield and carried them forward.
It's just that what we didn't expect is that now they are using these tactics that they learned from our army to deal with us. What makes me unbalanced is that we, the masters who taught the Vietnamese army tactics, now have no tactics at all......
This is not? Caught in the enemy's ambush, our troops were still holding rifles and submachine guns, and under the command of Battalion Commander Ding and others, our troops launched an attack on the Vietnamese troops on both sides under the command of Battalion Commander Ding and others.
The sound of submachine guns, machine guns, grenades and mortar explosions...... There was a loud sound over the positions of the fighters, and the fighters fell one by one, and then one by one they jumped up from their hiding places and rushed towards the enemy positions with bayonets raised. It has only been a few minutes since the start of the battle, and the entire mountain road has turned blood-red, full of stumps of the corpses of the soldiers, and even a few soldiers are lying on the ground and don't care about anything, only holding their heads and shouting......
This is still because the Vietnamese army is insufficient, and there are only two platoons of Vietnamese troops on the entire battlefield, if there are two more platoons...... I'm afraid that the battle will be resolved in a few minutes, and if so, I won't be able to save anyone at all
"Row 1, row 3 report the situation," I asked over the intercom.
Yang Songjian's cautious answer came from the walkie-talkie of the "report platoon commander": "We have reached the target position, but there is a mortar position of the Vietnamese army on the top of the mountain, but there are not many people, only a dozen ......."
"There are also ...... here in the third row"
"Knock them out immediately" I ordered without hesitation: "The plan has changed, no longer to cover the retreat of friendly troops, but to cooperate with friendly troops to annihilate the Vietnamese army, and you will immediately attack and flank the Vietnamese army after you take the position on the top of the mountain."
"Yes" The hometown people and Yang Songjian responded, and immediately launched an attack on the hilltop position.
"The second platoon will come up immediately" and then I gave an order over the walkie-talkie: "Deploy troops on both sides to suppress the firepower of the Vietnamese army and cooperate with friendly forces to attack"
"Yes" Li Shui' and the deputy company commander replied over the walkie-talkie, and they were exactly two people, one commanding the left and the other commanding the right.
I have to admit that I took it for granted that Battalion Commander Ding would 'draw' his troops and retreat after discovering that he was ambushed, so I was a little 'confused' at this time. It also made me realize that I had not yet successfully integrated into this society, and I could not understand the thoughts of people in this era at all
But at this time, I couldn't care so much, so I raised the sniper rifle in my hand and aimed at the Vietnamese army
"Bang bang......" Five bullets came out of my rifle in a matter of seconds, and five Vietnamese soldiers fell in response.
When I was observing just now, I recognized the position of these Vietnamese soldiers, and even thought about the order of the firing rifles, so I didn't need to think about it at all when I was cleaning them up at this time.
Although the Vietnamese army was very secretive, they either hid in the grass in camouflage or 'shot' at the mountain road under the cover of tree trunks. But in my position, facing the side of the Vietnamese army, and it was not far away, their every move was exposed under my sniper scope.
In fact, I was able to identify the positions of a total of eight Vietnamese soldiers, but I only had to fire five shots in a hurry. Because just a few moments, three or four Vietnamese soldiers looked at me vigilantly and pointed their guns at where I was hiding.
To be honest, I still have a lot of pressure in the face of the Vietnamese army. They will give me the illusion that I am not facing an enemy, but a volunteer army that has fought together in the battle to resist US aggression and aid Korea. Their coordination, tactics, reaction speed, and bravery are all very similar to those of the volunteers.
Although we are reluctant to apply the word "bravery" to the Vietnamese army, whether it is from the perspective of national or personal feelings, this is an undeniable fact. After all, both armies were tempered in the face of an enemy who was several times better equipped than themselves, and the opponents were both American troops......
Everyone says that what kind of opponent there is, what kind of self they have, but the Volunteer Army has the same opponent as the Vietnamese Army, and the Vietnamese Army has absorbed a lot of experience from our troops when they resisted US aggression and aided Korea, so it is no wonder that they are so similar.
So...... It seems that I just have to think about what I would do if it was my comrades-in-arms during the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea who were fighting with me.
It may seem emotionally hard to accept when you think about it, but it works.
This is not? Just now I was thinking that if the volunteers found the enemy's snipers at such a close distance, they would shoot two rockets first, and then send three or five people to outflank them......
Before I could climb a few steps down, the explosion of the rocket was blown up and the earth and rocks flew chaotically, and the broken wood and grass flew all over the sky like a "girl" scattered "flowers", I didn't think much about it, and the smoke and dust from the explosion of the rocket had not yet dispersed, so I turned around and climbed back a few steps and hid directly in the pit where the rocket exploded.
At the same time, I thought to myself that if I were a Vietnamese army, their encirclement would never target my original position, but the position that was far behind. The reason is simple, if the rocket doesn't kill the sniper, it will definitely run away...... But what they didn't expect was that there was another situation where I wasn't killed and didn't run away.
The speed of the Vietnamese army's movement was very fast, but within two minutes I heard a few dead branches breaking from the left front, and at the same time I saw two Vietnamese soldiers on the other side of the mountain road, obviously cooperating with my comrades to outflank me. This could not help but make me secretly admire once again the swiftness of the Vietnamese army's actions and the tacit understanding of cooperation.
The quality is good enough, and when you look at that figure, you know that it is rolled on the battlefield. I think this is one of the reasons why the Vietnamese army dared to use two platoons to ambush a battalion of our army, and the other reason is, of course, that they are not strong enough.
The Vietnamese army relied on the cover of trees and teammates to leap forward, all of them were as agile as monkeys, sometimes hiding in the trunk of a tree and disappearing, sometimes brushing and running and jumping to hide in another hiding spot. If I were really in the rear and facing them alone, it would not be easy for me to deal with these Vietnamese troops.
After all, in such a close jungle, the sniper rifle has no advantage over the AK47 at all, but it will be difficult to use because of the length of the barrel. At this time, I couldn't help but miss the M1911 during the Korean War, and when I thought about it, I felt that it was wrong, in addition to the sniper rifle, the sniper usually had an extra pistol for self-defense, but Li Shui 'Bo' didn't give me the pistol...... Most of his mother's drop is this guy who keeps it for himself, but it doesn't seem to blame him, why did he give me what he paid? It would be nice to give me the sniper sniper spur and magazine.
The Vietnamese army slowly 'closed' to my position, but I still did not dare to move, because I was not sure that I would kill them in one fell swoop. There is a good chance that five Vietnamese troops will come, and the two on the other side of the mountain road are completely under my sight, and I can kill them in a matter of seconds. But on the same side of mine, I don't know where they are, even if they're behind me.
But I'm not worried, because I'm waiting for an opportunity......
"Da Da Da ......" The gunfire soon rang out, and the second platoon came up, and this was the opportunity I was waiting for.
The Vietnamese army always thought that I was only one person, but they did not expect that there was a whole platoon of troops behind me. Dozens of people in the second platoon suddenly appeared in front of those Vietnamese soldiers in two ways, and they couldn't help but be taken aback, so they raised their guns and 'shot' without thinking.
But what they didn't expect was that the danger was not coming from the front, but from behind them......
"Bang bang ......" two bullets flew out of my muzzle with a whistling sound. On the other side of the mountain road, the two Vietnamese soldiers who were holding AK47s and leaning on the cover of trees to 'shoot' at the second platoon fell to the ground without saying a word, and the blood sprayed from their bodies instantly dyed the surrounding trees and weeds red.
But I didn't have time to appreciate the results, because I knew that there were three more Vietnamese soldiers behind me, the closest of which was only a few meters away from me......
The sniper rifle spun a hundred and seventy degrees in my hand, and then a stunned face appeared in my sniper scope, he was only five meters away from me, and I could even see the mud on his eyebrows. I had accurately determined his position from the sound of his gunfire before, so I aimed at him in this turn.
With a bang, I pulled the trigger without hesitation, and his head tilted back like a watermelon and exploded.
It's not the closest I've ever killed an enemy, but it's certainly the clearest. Because I was face to face with him, and still in the sniper scope...... Although I had killed countless people at this time, there was still a trace of spasm in my heart. Because I could clearly see that there was a bloody 'hole' in the middle of his forehead, and I saw his eyes roll up like a dead fish the moment he fell to the ground, just like the bullet that first 'drained' all the air in his head and then killed him.
Thinking about it, the movements in the hands are not slow. Because I knew that if I was a little slower, a bullet would knock me through a sieve.
Sure enough, when my crosshair was aimed at the second target, the AK47 in his hand was also aimed at me. But before he could make a quick shot, I shot him down.
I didn't dare to hit the fifth target, and I shrank my head and hid in a hidden place. The reason for this is that the Vietnamese army's reaction speed is too fast, and it is very likely that it will be themselves who will die if they hit the fifth target. The other is because I am already victorious at this time, and the only remaining Vietnamese soldier has to face a platoon that follows me, but also have to be careful of me, the sniper on his flank, the chance of him escaping back alive is already very small, and I really can't risk my life for such an enemy.
Sure enough, after a few bullet whirls above my head, there was no movement. At the same time, Li Shui's 'wave' voice came from the walkie-talkie: "... Bell position, sixty meters"
I emerged from my hiding place again and looked in the direction indicated by Li Shui's 'wave', and sure enough, I saw the Vietnamese soldier running back...... With a slight movement of his fingers, the Vietnamese soldier fell to the ground with the sound of gunfire.
"Company commander, are you not injured?" Li Shui'bo walked up with a gun and asked with concern.
"It's okay," I shook my head, and then ordered: "Immediately start fighting with friendly forces"
"Yes," Li Shui 'wave' answered, and with a wave of his hand, he pulled the troops up in a straggler formation.
I took a few steps to the side with my rifle in hand, and easily removed his pistol and bullets from the waist of the Vietnamese soldier on the ground. Having tasted the dilemma of not having a pistol, I never wanted to try it a second time.
I took out the pistol and looked at it, it was the Soviet-style Tokarev pistol, and later I learned that in fact, this pistol already has another name, that is, "Type 54", which is also the name of Tokarev after my country copied it.
Of course, I am no stranger to this kind of mobile phone that our army installed in large quantities during the period of resisting US aggression and aiding Korea, so it is clear that it is actually not as good as M1911. But there is no way to do it, now both China and Vietnam use this gun, even if I am given an M1911, I dare not use it, there is nowhere to find bullets......
Hurriedly attaching my pistol to the belt, I broke away from the unit and ran to the side with my rifle in my hand.
I believe that there is no benefit in running with troops in jungle warfare as a sniper. On the battlefield of resisting US aggression and aiding Korea, it may be okay, the individual weapons used are only semi-automatic rifles, where will it be like now, AK47 assault rifles, squad machine guns, each squad, each platoon has 40 fires, mortars......
If you have such equipment, it is not a case that bullets and shells are flying 'randomly' when you start a war, and if you are 'mixed' in the troops, you will be hit by a stray bullet and you will be killed. Therefore, it is best for snipers in this era to act alone with their assistants, firstly, to reduce the probability of such accidental casualties, and secondly, to cause psychological pressure or deterrent to the enemy on the other side.
Gunfire soon rang out, and the second platoon was already engaged in fire with the Vietnamese troops.
To be honest, I was a little conflicted at this point. On the one hand, I hope that the Vietnamese army will be able to retreat, even if the Vietnamese army is of high quality, it is still under the attack of our army from both sides. If the Vietnamese retreated, the two companies that fought the mountain road would have suffered fewer casualties. On the other hand, I don't want the Vietnamese army to retreat, because I only need to wait a little longer, and the first and third platoons that have been outflanked from both flanks will be able to smoothly stab those Vietnamese devils from behind, and it will be difficult for the Vietnamese army to escape at that time.
Will the Vietnamese army run away? With this question in mind, I found a small hill and poked my head out again. But I found a scene that made me a little helpless: the Vietnamese army seemed to only need a dozen people each to block the attack of Li Shui' 'Bo' and the deputy company commander on their flank.
This is not to say that our army's combat effectiveness is poor, but because the trees, green tengs and other obstacles in this dense forest have become a natural obstacle for the Vietnamese army. It is difficult for a four-fire shell to accurately hit the target under the cover of heavy trees, and its shells are always exploding on the way or blocked by tree trunks or branches. Not to mention the mortar, there are branches all over the head and no one dares to hit it at all, and if this cannon hits, it will explode overhead......
In addition, our army all carried marching quilts, water bottles, and sapper shovels on their backs...... When charging and so on, it is inevitable to let Zhi Ah Teng's something entangle, and he moves very slowly, which gives the Vietnamese army a good opportunity to 'shoot'. This is not? After only a short period of fighting, our army fell four or five, while the Vietnamese army did not seem to suffer a single casualty.
What a mistake, remembering that when those Vietnamese soldiers outflanked me, they had almost nothing on me except AK47s and bullets. It's light and uncumbersome, so they can 'mess around' in the forest like monkeys, and the soldiers should be allowed to put down their equipment before the battle......
But fortunately, because the Vietnamese army is confident that they can block our attack, they have no intention of retreating, so their end will soon come.
I didn't think much of it, so I swapped out a magazine for my rifle and aimed at the enemy hiding behind the trees.
It should be said that it is very difficult to aim at the opponent in the jungle, because I have to avoid all the obstacles that the ballistic path may encounter, even a small teng.
This kind of Teng Tiao in the jungle of Vietnam is very tenacious, especially the kind of Teng Tiao that has turned black due to old age, and it is difficult to cut it with a mountain knife. So there is no doubt that this thing is enough to make the spinning bullet change its original trajectory.
Although the Vietnamese army was only more than 200 meters away from me, in my sniper scope was a dense net, a net composed of tree trunks, branches, teng sticks and some unknown shrubs. All I have to do is hit the target behind it through this net.
With a "bang", a Vietnamese soldier had just jumped out from behind a tree before I shot him to the ground.
So I knew how to use a sniper rifle in the jungle.
