Chapter 81: Military Adjustments

At this moment, Prime Minister Konstantin, who is rushing back to Sofia from London in high spirits, has no idea how big a mess there is in the country, waiting for him to go back and clean up!

The question of the governance of the new territories, how to deal with relations between the Balkan peoples, the resettlement of disabled retired soldiers, the division of land for the deserved......

Ferdinand was very self-aware, and there were successful examples for later generations to learn from, and he was okay with formulating big strategies, but as for the specific execution ability, no one knew, anyway, he was used to commanding people.

It is conceivable that for a long time to come, life will not be easy for Bulgarian government officials, and the office is their home!

……

As soon as the war ended, Ferdinand was busy making personnel adjustments, and he did not have time to intervene in various government departments for the time being, mainly against the military.

It's not that Ferdinand didn't trust the officers, in fact, the current Bulgarian military system, it is impossible for any individual or group to threaten his position!

But countless examples show Ferdinand that the human heart cannot stand the test, and there is no betrayal just because the price is not high enough! The best way is to start from the system and put an end to all possibilities of betrayal!

It took a lot of effort to take care of all aspects as much as possible, and Ferdinand finally completed the military adjustment:

dismissed Popov from the post of commander of the 1st Army and transferred to the Military Council;

dismissed from the post of Chief of Staff of Petrov's 1st Army and transferred to the Military Council;

The First Army was disbanded on the spot, and the Constantham Garrison Command (stationed in the Bosphorus) and the Dardanelles Garrison Command (stationed in the Dardanelles) were established to take over the defense.

He was dismissed from the post of commander of the 6th Division of George-Ivanov and transferred to the Constantinople Garrison Command as garrison commander;

dismissed from the post of chief of staff of the 7th Division of Stoyu-Bratisnov and transferred to the Constantinople garrison command as chief of staff;

Troop deployment: including the 1st Bulgarian Artillery Brigade reorganized from the 1st and 2nd Heavy Artillery Regiments; (Note: The artillery brigade belongs to the brigade directly under the Ministry of National Defense, and only cooperates with the operation)

and the newly formed 11th, 12th, and 14th Divisions were reorganized into the Constantinople garrison;

The total strength is 24,000.

dismissed from the post of commander of the 7th Division of Parif Khristov and transferred to the Dardanelles Garrison Command as commander;

dismissed from the post of chief of staff of the 6th Division of Stefan-Bogdanov and transferred to the Dardanelles garrison command as chief of staff;

Troop deployment: including the reorganization of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Heavy Artillery Regiments into the Bulgarian 2nd Artillery Brigade;

and the reorganization of the 9th Division, the 10th Division, and the newly formed 13th Division into the Dardanelles Garrison;

The total strength is 31,000.

……

Of course, the military reform was not directed at the First Army, nor was it directed at several other group armies. The army group was disbanded on the spot, the reorganized local garrison division took over the defense, and the commander and chief of staff were transferred back to the Military Council.

After the new round of military system reform, Bulgaria added seven new garrison commands: Constantum, Dardanelles, Albania, Aegean, Kosovo, Niš, and Macedonia.

The seven garrison commands, all of which are military-level units, Ferdinand's deployment like this, in addition to military considerations, is also full of ideas for placing heroes!

After all, the officers above the division level are basically generals, and now that they have made military exploits, most of them have to be promoted in military ranks, and it is now impossible to let them change careers.

Otherwise, according to the principle of reciprocity established by Ferdinand, if they change jobs, they can directly enter the ministry as ministers. It's even more difficult to settle in the local area, and you can be the boss anywhere!

As for the ability of high-ranking officers to govern, whether it can match their ability to fight, no one knows, anyway, Ferdinand is not going to try!

In the end, Ferdinand simply artificially promoted part of the garrison headquarters and added the post of deputy commander to properly settle these heroes.

After a Balkan war, Bulgaria added more than 50 major generals, more than 20 lieutenant generals, and five generals, and no marshal was born.

Even Popov, who was most qualified for the title of marshal, was pressed down by Ferdinand.

What are you kidding, since Ferdinand set up a military council in order to seize military power, the old guys in the army have entered a state of semi-retirement.

Now the Bulgarian army is already a world of young people, and the average age of more than 80 people promoted this time is less than 35 years old, and Popov is just over 40 years old now.

Unless Ferdinand has his brain in water, he will make such a young marshal to share his merits!

At this point, there is no need for Ferdinand to come forward in person, the old guys in the military committee have jumped out themselves, after all, no one wants to be pressed by a junior.

Especially the people who were suppressed by them at the beginning, not the people who have exercised!

Now Bulgaria is also star-studded, war is the best teacher, has experienced the Bulgarian war and the Balkan war, Bulgarian officers' command ability, has been greatly improved.

Now Ferdinand can proudly say that the quality of the Bulgarian army is no longer inferior to that of any great power!

After the reorganization was completed, the Bulgarian army consisted of two divisions of the Guards Army, totaling more than 24,000 troops; eight army standing divisions, four heavy artillery brigades, and three cavalry regiments, totaling more than 98,000 troops; and nine local divisions and six reserve brigades, totaling more than 128,000 troops; and a total strength of about 250,000 troops.

That's right, it's all the Army, and the Navy is automatically ignored.

In addition to the provisional navy, the total tonnage of the Bulgarian "coast guard fleet" is less than 6,000 tons, and the number of people does not exceed 3,000.

They usually do the work of the anti-smuggling brigade, and there is no problem in dividing them into the coast guard force under the customs office. When the total number of troops is counted, it is completely negligible!

These are just Ferdinand's plans for the future, and the disarmament plan cannot be completed in a day or two!

Moreover, there are still many places of instability that need to be suppressed by the army, and it is expected that the disarmament work will not be completed until the end of 1898!

What still needs to be placed now are the five generals who are about to be promoted, but the general direction has also been determined, and it is impossible to lead the troops under the army!

It is nothing more than the positions of Minister of Defense, Minister of Army, Minister of the Navy, Chief of the General Staff, and Minister of War!

Don't be surprised, these positions existed before, but Ferdinand left them idle in order to seize power. Even if there were no vacancies, Ferdinand would have left them vacant!

After the military council came out, these positions were not taken very seriously, and the rights were greatly reduced, but none of this mattered!

Anyway, now that it's needed, Ferdinand doesn't mind raising these positions again, no matter what the real power is, at least it sounds high-end!

If there is an air force now, Ferdinand doesn't mind having another air force minister come out!

As to whether it was appropriate for an admiral to be the Minister of the Admiralty, Ferdinand was not at all worried.

The Bulgarian navy has no say, and their highest-ranking commander is only a colonel, and the previous admirals have long been ordered to retire by Ferdinand.

Besides, the Minister of War is an admiral, and the Minister of the Navy is a colonel, isn't this a black attack on the Navy? Could it be that the Navy must be lower than the Army, which is still N levels lower?

In the future, Bulgaria will also build a large navy, as for how long this future is, anyway, it has been a long time, so long that Ferdinand does not know the specific time!

However, in order to appease people's hearts, and also to cater to the dream of a strong country in the hearts of the people! Ferdinand still shouted the slogan: "The Bulgarian Navy will be expanded tenfold in ten years, and twenty times in twenty years"!

Well, people who do not know the size of the Bulgarian Navy, after hearing this declaration, are expected to be shocked, and those who know the inside will definitely disdain.

As soon as the Balkan War ended, the Russians lowered the Bulgarian flag, re-hoisted the flag of the Russian Empire, and appeared in the Sea of Marmara in the bright light.

After all, the Russians also want to save face, and they always wear the vest of their younger brother, and the officers and soldiers are still very uncomfortable!

According to the calculation of 6,000 tons, it is only 60,000 tons when it is expanded tenfold, and it is only 120,000 tons when it is twenty times, which is slightly smaller than the current Black Sea Fleet!

Of course, this is enough for the current Bulgarian Navy, at least they know that there is money to buy new warships later.

Well, these were Ferdinand's tricks. If you don't limit your rights, just look at the lessons of Wilhelm II in World War I!

Originally, after Russia withdrew from the war, the Germans had the advantage, and they had the opportunity to negotiate with Britain and France and end the war with dignity, but unfortunately the officer corps did not agree and wanted to continue fighting!

As a result, Britain and France had to pay a big price to pull the United States on board and continue to fight the Germans.

The tigers can't stop the wolves!

Germany, the world's largest army, still couldn't withstand the alliance of Britain, France and the United States, and simply consumed the Second Reich alive!

……

After much deliberation, Ferdinand decided to appoint: Admiral Popov as Minister of War, Admiral Petrov as Minister of the Navy, Admiral Dante Kristof as Minister of Defense, Admiral Andrei Blaskov as Minister of War, and Admiral Imia Dimityev as Chief of the General Staff.

Well, Petrov is the worst, he got the idle post of Minister of the Navy, and the coast guard fleet under his command is still under the orders of the General Customs Administration.

No way, who called him Ferdinand's cronie? Now is the time to appease the heroes, and it is time to set an example.

This is not a disadvantage, after the great expansion of the navy, it will immediately become a hot real power faction, of course, the premise is that it can survive until that day!

Of course, Petrov didn't have a choice, compared to others, whether it was seniority or military merit, he didn't have an advantage. Especially in terms of age, the youngest is undoubtedly the most disadvantaged!

Before, he could serve as the chief of staff, but the gold content of that chief of staff was much lower than now, and he was the chief of staff of the army, and the current chief of the general staff was not the same concept!

This is also Ferdinand's intention, after this appointment, it is very likely that the positions of several of them will not change in the next ten years or even twenty or thirty years.

Preferential treatment of heroes is Ferdinand's consistent advocacy. Under normal circumstances, as long as there is no problem. They can work until they retire!

And Dante Kristoff, the oldest of the five, is now only 48 years old, waiting for him to retire? I'm sorry, but at this level, they can only wait for themselves to retire, or hang up early.

None of this was possible for Petrov!

The only option is to promote the construction of the navy, and turn the Bulgarian fleet, which is called the "navy" into a veritable naval fleet, and his position as the Minister of the Navy can be worthy of the name!

After all, if Ferdinand wants to promote the development of the navy, he can't end up in person! Of course, this kind of thing has to be done by the younger brother, and Petrov is just in time.
