In the North Sea

……

Meanness is the pass of the mean,

Noble is the epitaph of the noble,

Behold, in that gilded sky,

Floating with the crooked reflection of the dead.

The glacial age has passed,

Why are there ice cubes everywhere?

The Cape of Good Hope was found,

Why are thousands of sails competing in the Dead Sea?

I came into this world,

With nothing but paper, ropes, and figures,

In order that before the trial,

Read out the voices that have been sentenced.

Tell you what, world

I--no--phase--believe!

Even if you have a thousand challengers under your feet,

Then count me as the thousandth and onest.

I don't believe the sky is blue,

I don't believe in the echo of thunder,

I don't believe that dreams are fake,

I don't believe that death is without retribution.

If the ocean is destined to burst,

Let all the bitter water pour into my heart,

If the land is destined to rise,

Let human beings choose the peak of survival again.

New turnarounds and sparkling stars,

The sky is filling with no obstruction.

That's 5,000 years of hieroglyphs,

That's the gaze of people in the future.

……

Kitajima's "Answer" marks the beginning of the era of hazy poetry.

The poem shows the coldness of grief and indignation, and expresses the suspicion of a violent world in a firm tone.

The psalm exposes the reality of black and white confusion and reversal of right and wrong, angrily questions the contradictory and sinister society, and solemnly declares to the world the answer "I don't believe it".

The poems are not only direct lyrical and philosophical aphorisms, but also a large number of symbols, metaphors, metaphors, etc., which make the poems not only bright and clear, but also rich in meaning, and have a strong shocking power.

The work begins with a paradoxical aphorism that denounces the absurd era of reversal of right and wrong, with "gilding" revealing falsehood and "crooked reflection" alluding to the soul, in stark contrast. In verse 2, "ice cube" alludes to the shadow of people's hearts, which is emotionally consistent with verse 1. The third stanza renders the Promethean image of the savior, and the poet considers himself to do so, showing the consciousness of the poet in the new era and his unhesitating commitment to his own responsibility. Verse 4: "I—No—Look—Believe!" The dashes accentuate the tone, showing the image of a fearless challenger, and in the last two sentences, the author shows his unyielding determination from a historical dimension. The analogy in verse 5 expresses the spirit of negation and skepticism. The first two sentences of the sixth stanza express the heroic feelings of bearing the trust of the future, and the last two sentences convey the hope for the future. "5,000 Years of Hieroglyphs" captures hope and turning point from history and the future, and shows the powerful regenerative power of a nation with a history of 5,000 years.

The "Answer" reflects the awakening of an entire generation of young people, and is a "manifesto" that says goodbye to a historical era that has passed. The overall characteristics of poetry can be summarized as symbolic poetry. In the early 80s of the 20th century, Kitajima was influenced by Western modernist literature, and he succeeded in presenting an ideal art world to readers through the combination and superposition, impact and transformation of the images he was obsessed with, and through the so-called montage editing that transcends time and space. The national cultural tradition, the philosophical atmosphere of the times, and the heavy desire for an ideal life have become the themes of his poems. His poems are basically symbolic artistic conceptions composed of two sets of opposing factors, and he uses these symbolic poetic images to convey a life atmosphere full of oppression, and also express the psychological rebellion against the reality of suffering of people who still have the will to survive and the requirements for development under heavy pressure.

In terms of artistic means, the use of symbols and metaphors is forced by the sinister environment, and basically presents a comparative description. In his paintings, the darkness of politics is like a dark and omnipresent night, the constraints of life are like a net that spreads everywhere, the realm of hope becomes the dawn blocked by the embankment, and the awakened are like a lonely island surrounded by rivers. Through symbolism and allusion, the poet's subjective realm transitions to the world of poetry. Symbolism as an artistic device is commonly used in Kitajima's poems, indicating the poet's rich reconstructive imagination.

Due to the real externalization of the inner feelings, Kitajima's poetry is dyed with a layer of gloomy color, giving people a cold and sad feeling. Although the gloomy coldness of Kitajima's poetry is not a direct infection of symbolism, he verifies the essence of modern art from the common level of life feeling.
