Section 14: Technological Innovation

Early in the morning, Bruce woke up from his sleep, he sniffed and the smell of stinky feet rushed straight to his nose, almost making him vomit, it turned out that he was lying on the ground, three or four meters away from the campfire with only curling green smoke, and a serf kicked on Bruce's face with bare feet.

"Damn, it stinks old paper." Bruce pushed the serf's foot away, sat up and yawned, only to see the serfs lying on the ground around the campfire, many still snoring.

Bruce patted the weeds on his body, stood up and shook his head, he staggered to the well, reached for the cool well water and rinsed his face.

"Ah, comfortable." Bruce sighed contentedly, his head now extremely clear.

"Good morning lord." Eve, the huntress, held a wooden wine glass, and walked swiftly among the people lying on the ground, and when she saw Bruce next to the well, she nodded and said.

"Eve, I have something to ask you." Bruce said to Eve, but Eve looked left and right in surprise, as if he didn't believe that Bruce was looking for him.

When Bruce first saw Eve, he became interested in this shrewd and powerful woman, don't get me wrong, he didn't think about Eve, but vaguely felt the independent side of women in later generations from her.

"Your Lord." Eve stood opposite Bruce, holding a wooden wine glass in her hand, but her left hand caressed the mouth of the wine glass, with a faint casual smile on the corner of her mouth, but Bruce was sure that if he really wanted to do something wrong, the seemingly harmless Eve would definitely kick him into the well and kill him.

"Ahem, Eve, your archery skills seem to be pretty good." Bruce coughed softly, relieving the awkward atmosphere between the two.

"Of course, I am the hunter in the territory, and it is my job to provide the lord with game, as long as I am the prey I have my eye on, there is no escape." Eve heard Bruce talk about her work, and suddenly her waist straightened up, her eyes flashed, and she said to Bruce proudly and confidently.

"Very well, so who knows how to use a bow and arrows besides you?" Bruce asked hurriedly.

"Huh? There's no one in the realm but me, and you know that Grinton is severely restricted from civilians using weapons and bows and arrows, not even clubs. Eve was stunned when she heard this, she felt that this was all common sense, why Bruce didn't know at all, Glynton was a territory cursed by the imperial royal family, and the people who lived here were all in the battle between black and white, and the supporters of the white king were closely guarded, although after the death of the black king, the royal family had relaxed a lot of regulations.

"If you were asked to train now, how many archers would you be able to train for me in the shortest amount of time?" Bruce licked his dry lips, not expecting his territory to be a completely unarmed place.

"Unfortunately, the training of archers takes a long time, and a good archer is determined by talent, time, and patience." Eve shook her head regretfully, wondering why Bruce had suddenly decided to train archers.

"That's right!" Bruce couldn't help frowning, he originally thought that as long as there were enough bows and arrows, he could form a team of archers, his men were all serfs who had never fought, if they wanted to fight hand-to-hand, they would definitely not be able to bargain, but if it was a long-range shot, they could not only save themselves but also effectively kill the enemy.

Watching Bruce fall into deep thought, Eve was also looking at the young lord curiously, but his immature face seemed to be burdened with a heavy mission, Eve was also curious about why Todd would disobey Bruce's orders, you must know that Bruce is also the young master of the Locke family, the lord of Grinton's eight classics, but the shrewd Todd would rather offend Bruce than to curry favor with James in the distance, which is really a mystery.

"There it is." Suddenly, Bruce shouted and slapped his thigh hard, a smile of excitement on his face, pulling Eve's musings back.

"What's the matter?" Eve was taken aback by this startled lord and asked curiously.

"I have a weapon that allows people who don't know how to use a bow and arrow to shoot." Bruce said excitedly to Eve.

"It can't be." Eve scoffed at Bruce's whimsical claims, and she had never seen an archer who could be used without training.

A good archer requires strong arms, keen eyesight, enough patience to sharpen, and no less than three years of experience.

"It's possible." Bruce knew that Eve's judgment was not wrong, but he had historical knowledge beyond Eve's millennium, and this weapon was once commonly used in the Celestial Empire, yes, the crossbow.

To prove his claim, Bruce found a stick, cut a groove out of the tip of the stick with a short knife, and then stuck it horizontally with a simple bow, and then carved a hole in the trigger, and when the most rudimentary crossbow was presented to Eve, the huntress still looked disdainful.

"You say this thing is more powerful than a bow?" Eve doesn't believe in opportunistic approaches to archery, she only believes in archery skills that have been honed over time.

"You see, in fact, this weapon only turns the original vertical bow into a horizontal one, so that people who don't have arm strength can aim at the target for a long time." Bruce raised the world's first crossbow in his hand and explained to Eve.

"I still don't believe that a casual farmer can use bowing." Eve pursed the corners of her lips, if she admitted that such a rough thing could make any person use a bow and arrow, then wouldn't she be denying the skills that Eve had honed since childhood.

"I don't care if you believe it or not, you must master this weapon, and I will let you teach others, this is me, as your lord's order." Bruce didn't have the time to explain to Eve slowly, and he knew very well that sometimes the role of a leader was to give orders, not to explain them to his subordinates one by one.

Eve frowned and twisted the crude crossbow with two fingers under Bruce's order, with a look of disgust and dissatisfaction, and Bruce ignored her, he looked for the figure of Elder Warren in the crowd, in addition to military innovation, he also needed to improve agricultural technology.

Fortunately, the figure of Elder Warren appeared at the edge of the grove, and he walked slowly on crutches, and Bruce hurriedly strode up.

"Warren, what are you doing here?" Bruce asked curiously.

"Oh, it's my lord, I'll go to the woods for convenience." Elder Warren replied to Bruce, who was surprised to see him suddenly.

"Convenient? Well, I don't have time to care about your, I have something important to look for you. Bruce said to Elder Warren.

"Listen up, honorable lord." Elder Warren bowed tremblingly and said respectfully to Bruce.

Bruce and Warren discussed technological innovation in agriculture, and after observing the cultivation of farmland throughout the village, he found that the cultivation of Grington Village was very simple, the common part of the farmland was planted with flax, a fibrous plant that could provide the villagers with materials to make clothes, and the villagers themselves cultivated most of the farmland was wheat and cabbage.

"That's how we've been growing for generations." Elder Warren didn't understand what Bruce meant, and he blinked, his snow-white eyebrows and beard twitching.

"You don't understand, we should do multi-cropping." Bruce raised his hands, gestured in front of Elder Warren, and said to him.

"Multi-cropping?" Elder Warren clearly didn't understand what Bruce meant, and just unconsciously repeated his words.

"Simply put, it's about bringing together poultry, livestock, fish farming and farmland." Bruce was confident in this, because when he was Sima Yuan, his job as a village official was to promote the multi-cropping industry, and it was very effective, as long as the multi-cropping agriculture was used, then Greenton's agricultural production efficiency would be greatly improved.
