Section 277 Suez Canal Plan

On the one hand, the theories and methods of traditional Chinese engineering have been transformed into more accurate modern digital theories, so that Chinese can combine their ancient experience with modern scientific theories, and the engineering capabilities have become stronger and more sustainable. The Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, a 1,794-kilometer-long super project, means that it is an international canal project for European countries, and it needs to cross several countries.

If the Chinese who built the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal cannot get the Suez Canal, I am afraid that no country in the world can do it.

And just before the end of the Napoleonic Wars, French scientists with Napoleon's support at that time re-planned the route of the Suez Canal, and were surprised to find that their previous measurements were incorrect, and there was no huge difference between the Red River and the Mediterranean Sea level, almost at the same level.

This means that this canal is much simpler than China's Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, and it does not need to set up a gate to pass, but simply needs to dig a canal and directly communicate with the two seas.

Such a simple project, not to mention that the Chinese have done it, any country in the world can do it.

The only thing that needs to be solved is actually a political problem, China has expanded its influence into the Red Sea, and the main colony of African companies is located on the east coast of South Africa, and China's influence in this area has surpassed that of Zheng He's time, and only Britain can compete with China in this region.

But in terms of hard power, the power projected by the British into this region is actually impossible to compare with China, unless the British dare to transfer the main fleet from Europe to India. India's economic interests are important, but at best they serve the British mainland, and no matter how important they are, they cannot be more important than the mainland.

So in terms of political influence, only Britain is China's opponent, but Britain can't find a reason to obstruct it, because once this canal is built, Britain will be the biggest beneficiary, and the distance between them and India will be shortened by half, from London to Mumbai, India, through the Suez Canal can be shortened by at least 7,000 kilometers than bypassing the Cape of Good Hope, which is equal to 43% of the voyage.

By shortening the time spent on docking at various ports for replenishment on the way to and from each other, and saving more than half of the time, it is possible to complete the long sea route between Europe and Asia in three or four months after a voyage that lasted for more than half a year, which is the most beneficial for Britain, which has the most interests in Asia.

But Britain did not support this canal, for the simple reason that such a trade route was not in the control of Britain. It is in the hands of China, and they have tried to stop it through various political and diplomatic forces, but they have all been defused by China using the same diplomatic and political forces.

In the game of the Indian Ocean, Britain did not prevail.

One of the main characters was on the side of China, and that was Muhammad Ali, the governor of Egypt in the Ottoman Empire.

It is not surprising that Muhammad Ali was not an Ottoman Turk, but an Albanian, and that the Ottoman Empire had a large number of foreigners, especially Europeans, and even the Ottoman emperors, who had only a dozen Turkic genes, because successive Ottoman emperors liked women sold from Europe, and the Ottoman emperors carried a lot of Greek and Russian blood.

Not only the emperor, but also the main army of the emperor, which was mostly European, forcibly recruited minor men from their European territories every five years from the Christian peoples of the conquered Balkans, and assigned them to live in the families of Ottoman military feudal lords for several years, where they learned the Turkish language, customs, and converted to Islam, and then sent to specialized schools in Istanbul and Edirne for military training and religious indoctrination.

Although the Ottoman Empire greatly ensured loyalty by converting the religious beliefs of those pagan boys in Europe, it has inevitably led to military autocracy, and many places such as Egypt, Tripolitania (Libya), Tunisia and Algeria have actually gained independence and are only nominally part of the Ottoman Empire, with their own armies. Not at all bound by the Ottoman Empire.

It was in this situation that Ali took the position of the governor of Egypt (Pasha) and became the de facto ruler of Egypt, founding the Ali dynasty of Egypt.

The difference is that Ali did not come from the army, he was a strange Muslim European who ran the tobacco business in his family. In 1801, he was conscripted into the army, and was sent to Egypt twice to fight against the invasion of the French army, gradually showing his outstanding military talent, and was gradually promoted to the main general of the Albanian Legion, and stayed in Egypt.

In 1804, the people of Cairo revolted against the rule of Mamluk (Egypt's traditional military feudal lords) and launched an uprising. Ali took the opportunity to side with the rebels, and the uprising was won. In 1805, the Egyptians held a meeting to support Ali as the Egyptian Pasha, and the Ottoman Sudan sent troops to attack, but was defeated by Ali, and was forced to recognize Ali as the Egyptian Pasha and establish the Ali dynasty.

Ali also fought against other invading armies, such as the 1807 campaign that led the British invasion of Egypt. Beginning in 1811, the army continued to expand outward, and from 1811 to 1818 it sent troops to the Arab Peninsula to suppress local sectarian uprisings against Ottoman rule, and occupied the holy sites of Mecca and Medina.

At this time, the Ottoman Empire did not want to restrain Ali, and when it really started, it was not Ali's opponent, which was very embarrassing.

Because of Ali's or all the Ottomans' natural distrust of the Christian states in Europe, the Chinese European Company sent some Chinese Muslim officials to dissolve Ali, and he immediately won Ali's trust. On top of that, Ali was also very keen to rely on China to help him fight against a possible European invasion, and at the same time he was religiously important to build a canal, to control the trade routes that were important to the Europeans, to collect taxes from these pagans.

After friendly negotiations, the two sides signed a treaty on mutual cooperation in the development of the Suez Canal, in which Ali is responsible for providing 100,000 people for long-term excavation work of the canal, and the Chinese European Company is responsible for the engineering technology and related capital investment in the canal excavation, and each side holds 50 percent of the shares, but the European company will enjoy the right to operate and manage for 99 years.
