Chapter 20: Hello, Father
The night was barely holding on to the last of its dignity.
By the time the roar of helicopter propellers echoed over Florida's Enlightenment Islands, the sun had not yet risen, but a red glow had already shone on the dark horizon.
On the coast, under the dark night sky, waves crash on the beach, but the tranquility created by this is broken by the bright lights of the island.
A large number of oil drums, explosives boxes, and guns and ammunition are randomly placed on the ground, like a huge open-air arsenal.
The group arrived at a small airport in Miami by private jet and then flew to the island by helicopter.
Looking down from the sky, the island, which should have been uninhabited, was full of busy figures, working in groups of two or three, laboriously carrying heavy weapons and equipment.
In the meantime, a curly-haired man with a bald head was standing beside him with an indifferent expression, looking at the busy scene in front of him as if a lion was inspecting his territory.
The man's eyes were fierce, and the murderous aura he unconsciously revealed showed that there was more than one life in his hands.
The helicopter landed in a makeshift clearing on the island, and the three of them were escorted off the plane.
"Don't worry, Carl, we'll be fine. Beside him, Helen comforted him in a trembling voice.
Carl's brief exchange with Juno on the plane revealed Helen's name.
After that, he comforted his daughter with the same words.
But judging by her expression, it was clear that even she didn't believe these words.
Next to him, Juno was about to say something sarcastic, but when he saw Carl's eyes, he couldn't help but close his mouth.
At this time, the bald man had already walked over with his men, and his fierce gaze swept over Carl and Helen in turn, and then looked at Juno with an inquiring gaze.
The latter pointed at Karl, "That's him." β
The man nodded, looking at Carl with scrutiny in his eyes.
Karl also looked at him, who was dressed in a military green vest and had no weapons in his hands, and all of his men behind him, except for the man himself, had guns behind him.
There are all kinds of guns, almost any type, and a military blind like Karl barely recognized three AK47s and two M16s.
"Take them there. β
The man waved his hand, and immediately three of his men held their guns to the heads of Carl and Helen.
Mother and daughter Helen immediately screamed in fright.
Along the way, because of Carl's mental hints, except for the moment when they were first arrested, the mother and daughter were not abused, and at this time, they were suddenly pressed against the skin by the cold muzzle, and they immediately shrank their necks in fright.
Carl, feeling the cold touch on his neck, Carl couldn't help frowning slightly.
At such a close distance, he didn't know if the constant iron armor spell that had been solidified on his body a long time ago would take effect.
Truth be told, so far, Carl hasn't tried to use the Iron Charm to resist the bullets of modern firearms, and if he can, he can resist a few rounds.
He had used a wandless spell to fend off a salvo from the Royal Navy of the Caribbean world, but compared to modern firearms, the flintlock pistols that could already enter museums in the Caribbean world were not at all the same in terms of the kinetic energy and penetration attached to the bullets.
Looking for a chance to test the physical limits of his Iron Armor Charm, Karl thought to himself.
He was going to incorporate this test into his magic evaluation system.
As for the moment, Karl has been secretly vigilant and is considering whether to directly open a big showdown.
However, it didn't take long for the three of Carl to be taken to another part of the island, after a few twists and turns along the path through the dense forest.
At the end of the path is a small courtyard made of makeshift bricks.
Compared to the hustle and bustle on the other side of the island, it was deserted, with only two armed guards standing at the door.
Some distance from the courtyard, a strange buzzing sound rang in Carl's ears.
Soon, Helen's mother and daughter beside her also heard it.
"What's the sound?" said Helen.
"Don't speak!" the militant who was escorting her immediately scolded, and slammed the muzzle of his gun at Helen's head.
Helen was immediately too frightened to ask any more.
Carl, on the other hand, only listened to it for a moment before he heard the voiceβhe was all too familiar with it, and it used to be the same sound in his ears all day long when he used to go to the computer room for practical classes in college.
This is clearly the sound of the computer's fans, not one or two, but the chorus of fans of dozens or even hundreds of cases.
.........
On the ground, thick data cables are spread throughout the courtyard, like the roots of a big tree, carrying information from all over the world to the central core area.
In the center of the courtyard, dense computer cases are placed in a disorderly manner.
Compared with the general integration of screen and machine in this era, the design of the independent chassis alone has shown that the computers in the small courtyard are much more than this era.
However, with such a number of computers, there is only one person in the small courtyard who is manipulating them.
Under a makeshift rain shelter, hidden behind a dense display screen, Carl's face was unreadable.
It wasn't until he stood up, bypassed the rows of chassis scattered on the ground, and stood in front of Carl that Carl finally saw what he looked like.
A young man who looks like he is only seventeen or eighteen years old.
Of course, not as young as him.
And, Carl was sure, he didn't know the man.
However, what the young man said next made Carl squirt the saliva that he had just swallowed straight out of his mouth.
The young man's voice was strange, with an inexplicable sense of mechanicality: "Hello, father. β
......
The long night has finally passed.
In the distance, the sun peeked out from below the sea level, and the sky was completely illuminated.
When the first rays of the morning sun crossed the coastline and swept over the island's dense forests, finally spilling on Carl's face, Carl's face was bewildered.
Anyone who hears that he suddenly has an extra son will not look much better.
What's more, Carl's son is obviously several years older than him.
In an instant, Carl's mind was spinning, almost instinctively, as if he had made any mistakes in the years since he had traveled.
Then he suddenly realized......
Shit!!
As Kincaid said, it's clear that he doesn't even have hair.
"Who are you?"
Frowning, Carl looked at the young man in front of him whom he had never seen before.
The young man didn't answer his question, looked Karl up and down, and said nonchalantly.
"I thought they would kill you directly, but I didn't expect them to actually bring you here...... In that case, then ......"
Raising his hand, he raised his gun, and the dark muzzle of the gun was aimed at Karl's eyebrows.
"I can only kill you with my own hands. β
"Farewell, father. β
And then......
"Bang!", right in the middle of the eyebrows.
Not Carl's, though, but the young man's.
A bullet from behind went over Karl's head and hit the young man's head.
Karl immediately turned back, and saw an old but immensely muscular figure walking towards him with a determined step.
Next to him, followed a young Caucasian woman who was only tall enough to reach his shoulders.
"Carl Cooper?" said the old figure as he walked up to Carl, and although it was a question, his tone was full of affirmation.
"I was commanded to come and protect you. β
