Chapter 2: Saving Private Adolf
Leon led 14 men to the village marked three kilometers away on the map, all the way full of retreating German wounded soldiers and medical personnel, judging by the high proportion of wounded soldiers, most of them were the main attacking force retreating first and then the defeated troops.
"Are there any people who aren't hurt yet? If you can run, you need a few people here! A senior officer shouted to the crowd from a rock.
When Leon heard this, he hurriedly lowered his head and accelerated his speed, and said silently in his heart, at this time, there is no good thing to pull Zhuang Ding here, I better hurry up, you can't see me, you can't see me.
But God apparently didn't give Leon a chance to go, "Hey, that sergeant, stop, yes, that's you", the officer saw Leon at a glance, and continued, "I order you to bring your men over!".
Leon had no choice but to sigh, and walked towards the officer with a dozen people around him, asking as he went, "Sir, what's the matter?"
The officer saw Leon followed by a dozen people, his original frowning brow stretched slightly, and asked, "Your troop number and your name!"
Leon replied loudly: "Acting platoon commander of the third company of the third battalion of the sixteenth regiment of the sixth army, one platoon, leon andrΓ©s, sir!".
The officer then said, "Good! I'm Lieutenant Colonel John of the Sixth Army, and now you need to command your men plus these 44 fools on the side to go to a village four kilometers to the south, where the field hospital of the military headquarters has been bitten by a group of Frenchmen, and I want you to unite the guard company there to cover the retreat of the field hospital! The officer said as he pointed to a group of listless people on the side.
Leon exclaimed, "But sir, I'm just a sergeant, and the troops don't have heavy firepower." The officer frowned when he heard this, walked to the retreating crowd, stopped a second lieutenant who was being supported forward, then tore off his collar badge and epaulettes, hurried back to Leon, stuffed the epaulette collar badge into Leon's hand, and said: "Man, you are now the second lieutenant company commander, the third battalion and the fourth company of the sixteenth infantry regiment!" All the abandoned weapons on the way from here to the military hospital belong to you, is there any problem? βγ
Leon secretly sighed that the troops were already in chaos and could be promoted to the rank at will, and seeing that the officer's attitude was resolute, he knew that it might be tragic to think of an excuse to refuse again, so he immediately replied that there was no problem, and then ran quickly towards the direction pointed by Lieutenant Colonel John with the troops that had been pieced together.
Leon thought as he ran, the army he was carrying now was just a group of stragglers, he should reorganize the troops first, and then collect heavy weapons, otherwise if there were many French, he would not be able to stop their attack at all, and I didn't want to just live and die again.
Having made up his mind, Leon said to his troops: "Stop and rest!" Then he pulled a few soldiers who had followed him to the side at the beginning and asked, "What are the names of you guys?" Introduce yourself. β
"Sir, my name is Hans."
"Jonas, sir."
"Hankel"
"Peter, sir."
Leon smiled at them and said, "Very well, each of you will take 10 people and form a class, Hans you are in the first class, Jonas is in the second class, Hankel is in the third class, Peter is in the fourth class, and I will take the fifth class, and then come with me to find out if there are any heavy weapons and ammunition nearby, I don't want to send them to death."
"Company commander, you're right, we have to arm ourselves!" Jonas agreed.
"Well, let's go pick someone." Leon finished speaking and walked towards the troops.
It has to be said that for the Germanic people, discipline is like carved into their bones, although this unit is improvised patchwork, but still no one has the intention of running away. The troops were quickly reorganized and headed for the nearest abandoned position.
Soon, Leon's party reached an apparently hastily retreated abandoned position, where two swarthy MG08/15 light machine guns were randomly thrown around sandbags, and the heavy machine guns not far away were apparently blown up.
"Company commander, come and take a look! Here's the good stuff! Hans shouted excitedly not far away, and Leon ran over when he heard this, only to see a small gun lying quietly in a hidden trench, a French M1916 infantry gun, 37mm caliber, and two boxes of 12 shells next to it, which was a good thing, apparently the person who captured it had forgotten it here.
"Oh, Hans, well done!" Leon smiled and patted Hans on the shoulder, and then said to the soldiers beside him, "Take it and those shells, and then bring the two light machine guns we just found, and bring more bullets, we have to hurry!" After saying that, he took the lead in carrying a box of artillery shells, and the other soldiers hurriedly collected ammunition, picked up the machine guns, and four or five soldiers pushed and pulled to fiddle with the infantry cannon, and a group of people quickly advanced towards the destination.
The three-kilometer journey was not long, and soon a village with sporadic gunfire from time to time appeared in front of everyone, and Leon whispered: "Hidden, hidden." Then he called Hans to his side and said to him, "You take the second squad to guard the infantry guns, and come back when I greet you." Then whispered to the others: "Ready for battle!" Jonas, you second shift to the left, Peter, you go to the right, Hankel, you go with us in the middle, everybody disperse! Watch the spacing! Let's go! Then he lifted the Mauser rifle in his hand and slowly touched it forward.
After a while, more than 30 French soldiers appeared in front of the troops, Leon saw that there were not many people, so he waved his hand to Hansban, who was hiding behind the guns, to signal them to follow, and then turned around and raised his rifle, at this time a middle-aged French soldier just turned his head, and saw a young German soldier holding a rifle at himself, he opened his mouth in surprise and wanted to make a sound, but the muzzle of the rifle in the German soldier's hand flashed, and he felt that someone had smashed a hammer in his chest, and he could no longer make a sound.
"Kill!" Leon roared angrily, as if to accompany Leon, and the light machine gun next to him began to fire "suddenly", "Rush!" The Germans, armed with their bayonet rifles, opened fire and rushed at the French soldiers, who were looking sluggish.
More than 30 French troops did not last long before they were killed by the attacking Germans.
Leon's hands trembled, and he tried to grasp the gun in his hand, this was the second time he had shot in time, and the first time he had killed, and it was so close that he could clearly see the fear in the eyes of his enemies.
"Whew", Leon exhaled, collected his emotions, and raised his legs to walk towards the soldier who was full of excitement.
"Hurry up and go into the village and join the people in the field hospital." Leon ordered, and walked towards the village with a slightly heavy step.
"Oh! Praise God! Reinforcements! Reinforcements are coming! "As soon as he reached the entrance of the village, Leon heard a cheerful shout, and then a child about 17 years old popped out of the house next to him." Hello, Mr. Ensign! The soldier, who still had some pimples on his face, ran up to Leon with a happy face, gave a standard Prussian military salute, and then continued: "Sir, you are finally here, I thought we were going to die."
Leon smiled at him and said, "What about the rest of you?" What about your sir? Take me to him. β
The kid scratched his head in embarrassment and said apologetically, "Oh, I'm sorry, I'm so excited, come with me." The field hospital was set up in a chapel in the middle of the village, and an elderly lieutenant colonel officer with a captain approached Leon and said, "Hey! Man, thank you for coming to save us, how many people did you bring? β
"Plus me 59." Leon replied with a salute.
"God! How did the idiots from the military department send less than 60 people over? Didn't I tell them that we were trapped by a French army of more than 300 men? The lieutenant colonel shouted disappointed.
"Sir, don't you have a guard company here?" Leon couldn't help but be a little puzzled.
The lieutenant colonel patted his head, pointed to the captain officer next to him and said, "This is the commander of the guard company, you can ask him about the situation yourself." After saying that, he lowered his head and turned to enter the church. "Man, I'm not in a good situation here, my troops have been reduced by more than half, there are only more than 70 people left, and it will be difficult for your men to block the attack of the French." The captain was visibly disappointed as well. Leon frowned and said, "Mr. Captain, just now I came from behind and only saw dozens of French troops, why didn't you break through?"
The captain sighed helplessly: "Most of the people in the field hospital were injured by poison gas bombs, and now their eyes can't see at all, and they can't break through."
Leon thought for a moment and said, "Well, I'll take a squad to cover the retreat of these patients and medical personnel, and let the invisible ones help the medical personnel or our soldiers to go, and my remaining four squads will be left to you, and you will be here to block the French army, and when we reach a safe place, you will retreat, okay?"
The captain nodded and said, "That's all there is to it now, then you guys hurry up and leave with the non-combatants." When Leon heard this, he immediately shouted to the troops who were waiting outside: "Fifth class, come in and help!" Then walk into the hospital.
Suddenly, he noticed that a man lying on the hospital bed with gauze over his eyes was a little familiar, but he had not been in this world for long. Leon strangely walked over to the man and asked, "Hey, what's your name, please?"
When the man heard someone next to him ask, he smiled in the direction from which the voice came: "My name is Adolf, Adolf Hitler."
