Chapter 148: Forward
As there were no obstacles, the landing became like an outing, and as the combat operation was in full swing, the German troops began to run at high speed like a machine. The Germans drew up a fairly detailed timetable for operations, and each unit tried to act in accordance with the steps in the battle plan.
"When they got ashore, they all followed me to the back of the beach and ran until they reached the side of the road." A sergeant platoon commander gave the order while helping the co-shooter of the machine gun group to adjust the harness of the gun carriage. It was a six-man heavy machine gun group that carried an extra Lafette tripod mount than a regular machine gun crew.
"There will be no battle for the time being, put away all the bayonets, and don't accidentally hurt your own people." The non-commissioned officer beckoned, and several riflemen in the platoon began to remove the bayonets from their rifles.
These infantry were no longer on the cement of the British campaign, but a serious LCV (Vehicle Personnel Landing Craft), which was originally designed to carry a platoon of 36 heavily armed American infantry platoons to the coast, but in actual combat, because the landing force had to carry additional equipment and ammunition, it was usually not crammed into so many people.
The German infantry platoon outnumbered the Americans, so the German version of the LCV was a bit larger than the blueprint, and the rated number increased to forty-eight. Now only 37 soldiers are loaded in the landing craft, because there is some room to carry a trailer with a base number of ammunition, batteries for the radio station and first-aid medicines.
"Guys, we're almost there!" The helmsman shouted loudly from behind the armor guard.
"Everybody ready." The sergeant commanded loudly, grabbing the handle on the bulkhead.
After a burst of impact, the landing craft stopped, a crew member pulled down the release lever, and the gangplank door slowly opened forward.
"Forward, all run, watch your step!" The sergeant leaned against the bulkhead and ordered loudly.
"Good luck, guys." The captain of the landing craft raised his hand and saluted the sergeant goodbye.
"Good luck too, it's been a very smooth voyage, Captain." The sergeant saluted the captain in return, then patted the shoulders of the two soldiers next to him, and several of them pulled the trailer and rushed off the lifeboat.
"Everybody run! Don't be stupid! The platoon commander shouted to the soldiers who were rushing deeper into the beach.
"Whoever arrives last will wash the socks for the whole platoon tonight." As soon as the sergeant's order was uttered, the group of infantry began to run forward like wild dogs on the buttocks, as if they had been whipped in the buttocks.

"Feeling better? Lieutenant Colonel, you really shouldn't have eaten that cake at the end. Jürgen handed a military kettle to Randolph.
"But... But that cake tastes so good. "Randolph had eaten enough breakfast, and as soon as he got on the landing craft and was shaken by the waves, the lieutenant colonel's stomach began to feel uncomfortable.
"Don't worry, you'll get better when you get ashore." Horn sat on an ammunition box and smoked a cigarette.
"Yes, you don't have to worry about me, don't forget to take a picture of the landing, I'm going to show it to the Führer." Randolph opened the lid of the kettle and poured two sips of warm water before he felt a little better in his stomach.
"This is not a combat operation, this is an armed parade." Captain Dietretz said to Merkel.
"But it's spectacular, isn't it." Sergeant Major Merkel smoothed the strap of her Mauser sniper rifle upwards.
"Hopefully there will be a real battle in the future, and I've heard that these Arabs are quite brave and good at fighting." Sergeant Daniel of the Gray Sword team said to his comrades.
"You didn't heal from the arm injury you took last time, don't let those Bedouins cut off your treasures." The companions were rather faceless to the sergeant, and they laughed and began to joke around Daniel.
"After landing, we followed the armored vehicles of the reconnaissance platoon, and Major Wycombe arranged a vehicle for us." Randolph screwed on the lid of the kettle and handed it to Jürgen.
"Acting with the vanguard? That's exactly what I wanted. Jürgen snapped the kettle to the grocery bag at his waist.
Because of the possibility of actual combat, all the SS officers on the ship were armed, all of them were equipped with Y-straps used by infantrymen, and triple-pack submachine gun magazines hung from their waists, as well as gas mask canisters, food bags, grenade bags, and water bottles. Each officer had an MP40 submachine gun, while the rest of the non-commissioned officers carried their own weapons, and the Gray Sword team also brought an extra MG40 light machine gun.
"Sir, what is the origin of those SS troops?" On a mechanized landing craft behind Randolph's side, the captain of the landing craft asked a lieutenant next to him curiously.
"I heard that it was a special investigation team, and it was said that the lieutenant colonel who led the team came from Berlin."
"Don't bluff me, how could such a big man come here...", the landing craft captain was startled.
"I've seen quite a few in Poland, all of them with the name of the Einsatzgruppen, and it is said that there is also the Gestapo of the General Security Service mixed in." After speaking, the lieutenant smiled strangely at the captain.
"What kind of special investigation team did you say they were? Could it be..."
"Shhh The lieutenant gently patted the captain on the shoulder.
"Sir, Captain Sleman reports that the operation is going well, and that the 2nd Infantry Company has set up defensive lines on both sides of the road south of the beach." Next to the barrel car parked in the middle of the cabin, the communications staff officer took the microphone and reported to the battalion commander.
"Order him to remain on the alert, intercept and seize all vehicles and personnel coming from the south, and annihilate them on the spot if they resist." Wycombe looked down at the map laid out on the front of the car, marking the time with a pencil.
"At this rate, we could complete the entire landing half an hour earlier than planned." Wycombe looked up at Kurt and said.
"I think we can let the three companies attack towards Yanbu Port, plus the motorized infantry of those two companies, and strive to take Yanbu City before noon." Captain Cotter suggested.
"There are a lot of herdsmen along the coast here, and it is impossible for our landing to hide from the people in Yanbu City for too long, maybe there are already witnesses who have reported it at this moment." Captain Gruma, an operational staff officer, reminded.
"There's a good chance you're saying, Gruma." Wycombe thought with a frown.
"Just do as you say, order the second platoon of the third company and the second platoon of the motorized infantry company to search and advance in the direction of Yanbu City, and if the enemy intercepts it, you can launch an attack." The battalion commander raised his wrist and looked at the time.
"It's 8:06 a.m., and the second phase of the operation begins. Did the battalion headquarters vehicles land? Wycombe looked at the combat staff.
"Unloading in progress." A staff officer reported.
"Contact the Archangel, we're going to start moving early." Wycombe ordered to the Signal Soldier.
=============================================
"Captain, Major Wycomb has sent in contact, and they have begun the second phase of the operation." A Navy communications officer ran briskly onto the bridge.
"How many troops are left that haven't landed?" Colonel Rudolph turned to ask the first mate.
"There are almost three more waves to be transported."
"Wycombe is too impatient, but I can understand that." Colonel Rudolph walked to the side of the bridge and picked up his binoculars to look at the shore.
"Put the carrier-based reconnaissance aircraft out, they need intelligence support. Speed up the transfer of troops, and strive to complete the final transfer within 15 minutes. Colonel Rudolph put down his binoculars.
"Or do you still act according to the original battle plan? Captain. The first mate asked.
"After the landing craft are released, stop the recovery operation and order the ships to stand by near the beach, and we will come back to pick them up." Rudolph walked over to the chart table.
"When the last landing craft is delivered, we will pull anchor and set sail as planned, outside the port of Yanbu, where these lands may need our artillery support." Colonel Rudolph pointed to the route marked on the chart.
===========================================
"Gentlemen, time is pressing, let's go first! Armor! Advance! "On the coastal road eight hundred meters away from the [Archangel], Captain Snarr waved his arm forward, and six heavy armored vehicles in three companies and two platoons began to move along the road towards Yanbu Port in the southwest.
"Forward, let's go take that city, gentlemen!" Randolph stood in the passenger seat of a bucket truck, one foot on the dashboard, one hand pointing forward.
"Hey! Reinhart! For the Führer! The SS men shouted slogans in unison, and amid the roar of engines, a special detachment of the SS, consisting of three barrel cars and six three-wheeled motorcycles, galloped away with three platoons of armored vehicles.
"Hell! Catch up with the guys in front! We can't let the SS run ahead of us. "Eight four-wheeled armored reconnaissance vehicles in three companies and three rows were not to be left behind, and the drivers increased their horsepower and rushed forward.
"Wait a minute, don't go, bastards, come back! These scumbags! The motorized infantry platoon commander was cursing on the side of the road with his feet on his feet, and his men were still loading ammunition and equipment onto trucks, and in the blink of an eye, the group of armored vehicles was gone.
