Chapter 853: Sixty-one Grades

Today's Hokkien and Cantonese probably still have them, saying that Master So-and-so went to the dojo.

In terms of Chinese folk customs, a place for chanting, practicing, and meditating is called a dojo, which is a religious form of concept.

The Vimala Sutra tells us that the true dharma of Mahayana Buddhism lies in the mind, not in the appearance or appearance.

He also said politely: "Dependent origin is the ashram, and ignorance is the dojo." In other words, to put it mildly, the toilet is also a dojo, and heaven is also a dojo, which is not dirty or clean.

As long as the mind is pure, the moment is the ashram, the place of cultivation.

By the way, I will tell you a story, it has been a long time since the culture of the East, especially Zen and Buddhism, has been circulating in foreign countries, especially the United States.

At that time, there was an old Chinese professor in the United States, who had never studied Zen.

Being a professor in the United States is also very pitiful, and there is always something new to add, and if there are no new books and new reports published in three or five years, you will fall behind.

In fact, it is the same in China, every reader is working hard and constantly improving when he is old.

Because Zen began to become popular in the United States, he was asked to translate Zen things in college, and he accepted the task, translating Zen Buddhism's "Zhiyue Lu", "Five Lantern Huiyuan" and so on.

At that time, he went to Tokyo, Japan, and encountered many problems, and the Japanese Buddhist community could not fully satisfy him, so he finally came to me without knowing how to inquire.

Because he is Chinese, I hope that the things translated to foreign countries will not lose face to the Chinese, so I agreed to help.

Later, I learned that he had never studied Buddhism or Zen.

In fact, there are many such people now, these Chinese professors abroad, each of whom understands Zen, alas! It's ridiculous!

He sent me the translated things for me to review, and I asked him to send them part by part, and I didn't have time to send the full text at once.

At that time, there was an old Taoist friend Huang Jushi, who is now in his nineties, and he has a good command of English, and he translated my book "Zen Jungle System and Chinese Society".

I asked him to review it to see if it was correct, and if he had any questions, he would ask me.

As a result, when he saw that the professor had translated the dojo into a tomb, Mr. Huang was very angry and said, "How did you get this kind of mistake?" I won't change it! Oh! I'll just say that there are a lot of mistakes in translations over the ages, so don't be angry, let's fix them! What's more, it makes sense for him to translate the dojo as a tomb.

What is the truth? In the past, the Chinese asked monks to go to the grave to set off flames and recite scriptures, build a shed, and then say that it was a dojo, and they were used to it.

When this professor was a child in China, he probably saw monks chanting scriptures on the grave as a dojo, so he thought that the dojo was a tomb! But you students must pay attention! Don't make jokes outside because you don't have enough common sense, don't turn into black Buddhism when you go out to promote Buddhism.

In the past, the Kumarosh and Bodhidharma patriarchs, these masters came to China to translate Buddhist scriptures, and they translated them so well and accurately, it was not simple.

In the past, because of the promotion of the government and the emperor, there were thousands of people in every translation place, and these very clever people gathered together, and a term and a sentence were studied for many months before they were determined.

It's not like you have learned a few foreign languages now, and there is only a little Chinese, and then you just flip through it randomly, the bull's head is not the horse's mouth! This is talking about the dojo, especially inserted into this paragraph.

The two major concepts we have learned Buddhism are here, what is the way, that is, Bodhi, represented by Maitreya Bodhisattva, which has been talked about.

The second question is what is the place of cultivation, that is, the dojo, which is represented by the Guangyan Boy.

The place of cultivation is not anywhere, everything is in one's own heart.

A few years ago, I had to go into retreat, I looked everywhere, and many old friends asked me to go to them, and some of the houses I saw told them no.

Someone else wants to give me land, so I'll have to build a house, and when it's done, maybe my retreat should be changed to a closed coffin.

Suddenly I thought about it, I am stupid, I am still looking for a place, I can retreat in the city, and the door of the place where I live will be closed as soon as the door is closed! When the heart is closed, it is closed, where is it called retreat? So people thought I was going to the top of a mountain, but in fact I was locked up in the city for three years.

As soon as I closed the door myself, it opened on the same day. Don't deliberately look for any pure place to cultivate and become a monk, because your heart is not pure, you are not pure anywhere, and it is useless to go anywhere! That's what the dojo is.

What temple are you looking for? It's not good for you to go to the temple! The same troubles, the same pain.

You're so awesome later, hey! Any place of pain is a dojo.

Note! This is the main point of Mahayana Buddhism.

Enlightenment, practice, and the place are also available, so now start learning the Tao.
