Chapter 887: Ninety-six Grades
"My heart is pure, and I sigh that I have never had." The Bodhisattva of Good Virtue himself listened to the Dharma spoken by Vimala and became pure.
The first step for a person to learn Buddhism is to have a pure mind, which is very difficult.
No matter how long you have been studying Buddhism, can this mind always be pure?
"The chief inspector is full of Vima, that is, Xie Yingluo, which is worth hundreds of thousands, and he refuses to take the above." At that time, the Bodhisattva of Good Virtue had gained benefits and had a pure heart, so he knelt down and bowed to Vimala and untied the very valuable jewels hanging on his body to offer to Vimala.
At that time, the rules of India were that there were many treasures hanging on the body, and you see the statue of the Bodhisattva, the body was full, and China did not hang it, and the customs were different. But Vimal refused to accept it.
"I said, "Layman! I will accept it, and do as I please. ”
Again, the status of the ancient layman and the Dharma master is parallel, and only when they are old and virtuous, have good Taoist knowledge, have a solemn appearance, and have all the conditions, can they be called laymen.
"Vimalaya is divided into two parts. Hold one point, and give this will be the lowest beggar. Hold one point, and it is difficult to win as if it were to come. All the congregations saw that the land of light was invincible, and they saw that the pearl cherry blossoms were on the Buddha, turning into a four-pillar treasure platform, which was strictly decorated on all sides, and did not hinder each other. ”
The Bodhisattva said, "When the Vimal monk saw me pleading like this, he accepted my offering, and when he got it, he divided it into two parts."
First of all, half of the offerings are given to the poorest of the poor people at the Festival. The other half, which Vimala lay people offer to the other world, is one of the 88 Buddhas, the most special Buddha.
The people present at that time immediately saw the invincible land of light appearing above, and the jewel that Vimala lay people offered to the Buddha became a treasure platform built by four pillars, and the universe was unhindered, and the people saw the land of the Buddha.
This is not a myth, especially for you monks, pay more attention to this paragraph. "The Sutra of the Buddha's Relic Teachings", "The Sutra of Forty-two Chapters" and "The Sutra of the Eight Great People's Jue" are the first three sutras of Buddhism to be introduced into China.
The "Forty-two Chapters Sutra" says that it is better to offer one billion Arhats, it is better to offer one Yuanjue, to support 10 billion Yuanjue, it is better to offer a Buddha, to support 100 billion Buddhas, it is better to support an uncultivated and unlicensed Taoist, according to this sutra, it is better to support a heartless Taoist, it is better to support the poorest person in the world.
Do you think the Dharma was born or entered the world?
Buddhism focuses on social relief. In this sutra, Vimala raises one of the poorest people in the puja.
If you can make offerings to the poorest people in the world, you can make offerings to a Buddha.
So don't engage in superstition, why burn what and turn into something? Why can't this money be used to do more good things in society?
This is the true spirit of the Dharma! Because if you can provide for the poor people in the lower world, you will be able to provide for the invincible people in the upper world, and the upper and lower will be the same.
Often, many religious followers will only make offerings to the Buddha upwards and ignore the poor in society, which is not Buddhism at all.
Here Vimal laymen will give you an example.
"When the god has changed, he also said: If the donor waits for the heart to give to the lowest beggar, it is like the appearance of the blessed field, without distinction, which is equal to great compassion and does not seek retribution, then it is called having sufficient law."
Vimal showed the people the Buddha land of other worlds, and told the audience that if the person who gave alms made offerings to the lowest beggars with an equal heart, the merit he made was equivalent to making offerings to the Buddha and he was truly planting a blessed field.
I often say that people who study Buddhism must not have a climbing mind, for example, when they see someone, they think, maybe this person can use it, maybe this person can help themselves, this is all climbing mind, and you should give unconditionally.
It seems that during the Chinese New Year, some people in the same way want to come to support me, and their names are not written, and as soon as the red envelope is put on my table, I see the fire is big, and I can't do this! Of course, I appreciate your sincerity, but I don't need to, what I want is that you can really study Buddhism, really practice the Bodhisattva path, and even use this money to do something meaningful in society.
