Chapter 055: Layman

The news that Daozi spent 10,000 taels of silver to buy Wanshihe's "movable type" spread far and wide, and at this moment, the shocked melon-eating crowd, in addition to talking loudly about this matter on various occasions, went to surround Wanshihe and asked him if the matter was true.

Wan Shihe was reluctant to answer, after all, 10,000 taels of silver would make people red-eyed and crazy. He smiled and didn't admit it, but this kind of expression was acquiescence in the eyes of the melon-eating crowd.

It's on fire. 10,000 taels, 10 sets of 1,000 "movable words", Made, peers can't wait to bite Wanshihe to death at this moment, and they want to cry without tears in their hearts and say that such a great good thing hasn't happened to him?

In order to get rid of this business in Wanshihe, many craftsmen of the porcelain shop went to the Wu Mansion to visit Wu Dashanren, saying that they were willing to burn movable type for the Wu family at a lower price.

Wu Dashan greeted them with a smile, and said at the banquet that he already knew about it, and if there was a pile of porcelain movable type, he would definitely give priority to them, and then let people check if there were any bottles and cans missing at home, and if so, they would order some in these people's homes.

When these people saw Wu Dashan like this, they instantly understood the meaning, and said in their hearts that it seemed that it was impossible to stir up this business of Huang Wanshihe, and sighed at the moment, but it was not good to say anything, after all, Wu Dashan had done his best to them, and those bottles and jars of porcelain ordered in their homes were the best examples.

The burning of "movable type" and the decoration of the bookstore did not need Daozi now, so Daozi set his sights on the third step of the process: the paper and ink used for the newspaper and the content of the first edition.

This step is the most important.

In the Mochizuki Pavilion, Michiko sat at the stone table, holding different levels of yellow and white paper in his hands.

Xing'er and Mei'er stood aside and didn't dare to disturb, and Six or Seven stood on the stone steps outside the pavilion, their upper and lower eyelids fighting, as if they were about to fall asleep.

The paper used in the Ming Dynasty to engrave books was mainly cotton paper and bamboo paper, of course, there were also yellow and white linen paper.

As for the rice paper, the rough edge paper, the Tibetan scripture paper, and what Xue Tao's note, Daozi directly ruled it out. Because the cost is too high, the Daozi family can't afford to play even if they have money.

Michiko planned to choose between cotton paper and hemp paper. The reason is that these two types of paper are the most elastic and tough.

Newspapers? People toss and turn, and nature has high requirements for elasticity and toughness. For example, if you use bamboo paper, although this kind of paper is cheap, it can't withstand several tosses, and if it is sold, it will affect people's ready-to-use feelings.

Cotton paper, also called leather paper in Taicang, has two kinds of black and white, white paper is white in color, soft in texture, more fibers, and stronger in toughness than black cotton paper.

Hemp paper, this kind of paper is rougher than cotton paper, the texture is not as soft as cotton paper, but the toughness is stronger than cotton paper, and of course, the most important thing is that it is relatively cheap.

Daozi usually paints or writes with cotton paper or rice paper, but now he uses hemp paper for the first time, he took his seal and printed it on it, and when the seal was picked up, the blood-red "locust tree layman" came into view.

The locust tree monk is talking about Daozi himself. Daozi's ancestral home is in the big locust tree, and he can't forget his roots, so he gave himself this self-title.

The word layman was originally a Confucian concept, and it first appeared in the Book of Rites, saying that talented and capable people could only helplessly study and wait in the field because they did not have the opportunity, and it was the opposite of hermit. To give a simple example: Mr. Wolong during the Three Kingdoms period can be said to be a layman, but he cannot be said to be a hermit, because a hermit will not be born because of changes in the external situation, but Mr. Shui Jing can be said to be a hermit.

Then the Taoists also introduced this concept, and he was talking about people who practiced the Tao at home. Of course, there is a difference between this and the later generations, and the monks of the later generations must have a layman certificate, not that you call yourself a layman.

During the Tang and Song dynasties, lay culture was rampant, and all literati must have this name, such as Li Taibai known as Qinglian layman, Su Shi known as Dongpo layman, and Zhou Bangyan known as Halal layman...... It seems that if the literati at that time did not have the name of layman, they would be vulgar.

The Ming Dynasty was deeply influenced by Song culture, and naturally it was also a flood of lay culture. Like the poor Liu Xiucai, he has his own title, a drunken layman; Not to mention Wu Chengen, Daozi's second uncle, who was directly named after his hometown and was known as Sheyang Jushi. Sheyang is also the Huai'an of the Ming Dynasty, and in the Han Dynasty, Huai'an was named Sheyang.

Daozi fooled around with the two old talents, so he naturally got rid of it, so he gave himself the nickname of this locust tree layman.

The effect of hemp paper is not bad, and Daozi decided to use this paper as newspaper paper. Michiko took the model of the hemp paper and wrote it down, and the next thing was ink.

The choice of ink is also very important, there are four kinds of raw ink ingots in front of Daozi, the ink ingots are about nine centimeters long, three centimeters wide, and one centimeter thick, which are pine smoke ink, tung smoke ink, lacquer smoke ink, and oil smoke ink.

These four kinds of ink are all raw inks, according to the grade, there is no superiority or disadvantage, but the effect or "fragrance" is different.

Daozi prefers tung smoke ink, mainly because of the amount of tung smoke ink, and the words written are brighter, unlike pine smoke ink, which gives people the feeling of dry land when written, lacking the meaning of water.

However, the most popular among the literati of the Ming Dynasty is Songyanmo, like Daozi's enlightenment master Liu Xiucai, and his second uncle Wu Chengen are all supporters of Songyanmo.

Because there are many supporters of pine smoke ink, pine smoke ink is cheaper than Tong smoke ink.

Just because Michiko likes it doesn't mean that he will choose this ink, he also wants to see the effect after engraving. asked Mei'er and Xing'er to come over and help him mix the water and grind the ink, and the two quickly grinded the ink.

Daozi brought four wooden boards of the same size, and the wooden boards were engraved with words, and of course the words were all reversed. The characters on the board were dyed black with a brush dipped in ink, and then the milky white hemp paper was placed flat on top and pressed against a flat wooden board, and the other three wooden boards were also made in the same way as before.

After a while, Daozi took off the wooden board covered with hemp paper, and saw that two lines of small characters had been printed on the hemp paper at this moment: open the Qiong feast to sit on the flowers, fly the feathers and get drunk with the moon.

These two lines of words are taken from Li Taibai's "Preface to the Spring Night Banquet Peach and Plum Garden", which is the second preface of ancient and modern times that Daozi prefers. As for the first preface, it is naturally Wang Xizhi's "Lanting Collection Preface".

After removing all the other three wooden boards, Michiko put four pieces of hemp paper flat on the stone table and compared them, and found that the effect of lacquer smoke ink was the best, and then it was tung smoke ink.

The price of high-grade lacquer smoke ink is five taels of silver, and Tong smoke ink is four taels of silver, Daozi hesitated for a while, in order to save costs, and finally chose Tong smoke ink.

After the paper and ink were confirmed, Michiko wrote a handwritten letter and asked Xing'er to go to her father and ask him to arrange for someone to buy these things in large quantities.

Then came the first page of his newspaper.
