Chapter 795: Outside Yan'an City
Tsongkhapa, the founder and patriarch of Tibetan Buddhism, has always been regarded as the embodiment of Manjushri Bodhisattva's reincarnation in the human world among the believers of the Yellow Sect.
Under the assumption that the patron deity of the Ordos Mongols is Manjushri Bodhisattva, it is to guide these Ordos Mongols in the direction of Ganden Monastery, one of the most important temples of the Yellow Sect in the world.
While Tsongkhapa was alive, the Yongle Emperor sent him to Nanjing, but he died soon after.
His eldest disciple Shakyazhi, who inherited the mantle of Tsongkhapa's death, presided over Kadam Monastery (i.e., Gaden Monastery) and went to Nanjing to worship the Yongle Emperor on his behalf, and was appointed by the Yongle Emperor as the Great Compassion Dharma King.
Since then, the living Buddha of Gaden Monastery has been reincarnated by the disciples and grandchildren of Tsongkhapa's great disciple Shakyazhi.
At the same time, it was inherited by the living Buddha of Gaden Monastery, as well as the title of His Holiness Daci and the identity of Manjushri's human incarnation.
The Living Buddha of Samuteng Osir, who was born in Gaden Monastery, led hundreds of lamas summoned by Usu Tuzhao to pretend to be gods and ghosts, with the aim of making these people willingly go to the territory of the Great Compassion of Gaden Monastery to settle down and accept the blessing of Manjushri Bodhisattva.
Perhaps half superstitious, half forced, but in the end, more than 45,000 Ordos Mongols, men, women, and children, drove their sheep on a pilgrimage to Tibet in the early morning of the first day of the fourth lunar month.
These more than 45,000 people, who were summoned by the Living Buddha of Samuteng Osir and his subordinate Usutu, were organized into a total of 45,000 people in the front and rear and left and right sections.
In each thousand-person team, there are ten lama disciples sitting down by the living Buddha of Samuteng Osr as monks and leaders.
In this way, in the season when the grass began to grow everywhere, the Ordos Mongols followed the living Buddha of Samuteng Osir and his lama disciples to the east, and then south, and left the Hetao Plain for many years.
Just a few generations ago, their ancestors also broke through the defense line of Yulinwei, passed through northern Shaanxi, entered Shanxi, and fought all the way to the bottom of the Bauhinia Pass, capturing a large amount of gold, silver, grain, grass and women.
On that occasion, they destroyed the city and the countryside, burned, killed and looted all the way, causing chaos in northern Shaanxi and Shanxi, and the people were in dire straits.
This time, when I entered Yulinwei again, it was a different look.
They had no weapons, no horses, like wild wolves with their teeth pulled out and their claws cut off, and under the escort of the musketeers under Liu Zhaoji and Wang Shide, they could only honestly follow the living Buddhas and lamas, and drove the sheep that were their only wealth and rations along the way, and made a difficult trek to the south step by step.
On April 12, the third year of Chongzhen of the Ming Dynasty, at noon, Li Banghua, the military minister stationed in Yan'an Fucheng, personally led a group of civil and military generals, standing on the north gate of Fushi City, where Yan'an Fucheng is located, and witnessed the Mongols of the Ordos Department from the northern Hetao, group after group, team after team, driving southward.
Before the arrival of the first batch of Mongols who moved south, there were already Jinyi guards sent by Wang Shide to report the news, so in addition to Yan'an Fucheng being in strict formation, Li Banghua, Zhao Shujiao, Ma Maocai and other civil and military generals also knew what to expect.
At this time, looking at the traps that once made the towns on the three sides loud, making a generation of famous ministers Zeng Mill and Yang Yiqing fall into the sand one by one, and their reputations were ruined, and slowly passed through the city of Yan'an Mansion with great tameness, these people's hearts were full of sighs.
Jing Yuanbo Zhao led the sect to look at the crowd passing in the distance under the city, and said: "The captives moved south to Tibet, and the root cause of the three sides has been removed, and from then on, the land of Shaanxi, Gansu, Ning, and Yan can be worry-free in the north, and the people can live in peace!" The work of the cabinet boss is exactly what His Majesty said, the merit is in the present and the benefits are in the future! ”
Zhao Shujiao's age is older than Li Banghua and Ma Maocai, but for the two civil officials around him, he also admires them in his heart.
After Ma Mao listened to Uncle Jing Yuan's words and taught Zhao, he immediately said: "What Uncle Jing Yuan said is exactly what the lower officials think!" With this merit alone, the Pavilion Boss can be famous in my Chinese history! ”
For the words of these two people, Li Banghua couldn't accept them calmly, and immediately pointed to the crowd that passed through one after another in the city, and said:
"The work of the imperial court has been completed so far!"
After saying this, Li Banghua looked back at the two people behind him and continued: "Although the Holy Lord commended us for his merits in the present and benefits in the future, and did not hesitate to give them to me with the Hou and the Earl, it would be a big mistake to say that the merits of this repetition are the work of several people in my generation!"
"This repetition of the work, the public opinion is the first in the ministry, but the ministry knows in its heart that all kinds of measures rely on a little bit of guidance from the saint! The saint is the real credit first! ”
Li Banghua is certainly right.
Although Zhao Shujiao and Ma Maocai were not clear about the details, they also deeply agreed with Li Banghua's seemingly self-humble words.
"Your Majesty has seen thousands of miles, and the true saint is also the Son of Heaven!"
As soon as Li Banghua's words fell, the two of them nodded together and agreed, praising the saints.
The crowd of sheep and sheep marching south under the city of Yan'an began to pass through at noon and did not pass until the sun set.
It was only at this time that the heavy fishy smell in the air gradually dissipated.
And the officials of Shaanxi and Yan'an Prefecture, such as Dongshenghou Li Banghua, Jingyuan Bo Zhao Shujiao, and Ma Maocai, were really relieved.
The people who were also relieved were also the courtiers of King Wu'anbo who led a large number of cavalry of 3,000 battalions to garrison the area of the Meridian Ridge in the southwest of Yan'an Prefecture.
After all, there are 40,000 or 50,000 herdsmen in Ordos, but there are tens of thousands of young and strong people, and once they are unwilling to move south or take advantage of the opportunity to move south to start a mess, northern Shaanxi and even Guanzhong will immediately fall into a crisis, and the blockade of Taomin Guyuan and other places by officials, soldiers, and horses will also be impacted.
Once this happens, the consequences will be unimaginable.
Regarding the whimsy of Emperor Chongzhen and the ministers of the Imperial Court, it is not that no one has doubts in their hearts.
The courtiers of King Wu Anbo and many young generals under his command, such as Liu Xingzhi, Hu Dawei, Fierce as a Tiger, Wu Sangui and others, all had doubts in their hearts.
In their opinion, instead of letting these natural cavalry move south to Tibet and cheapen those Tibetan lamas or something in vain, it is better to directly incorporate them into the army on the spot.
After all, the old foundation of the cavalry of the 3,000 battalions was adapted from the Inner Annexed Mongols as the main force.
In the past two hundred years, the 3,000 battalions, mainly the Mongolian cavalry attached to the interior, have never mutinied or disobeyed military orders.
There are already 3,000 battalions in the Ming army, so why not continue to incorporate the young cavalry of the Ordos Mongols into an army this time, and let them follow them to the northwest to fight?!
Although these people were puzzled in their hearts and felt sorry for the loss of such a source of troops, none of them dared to oppose His Majesty's edict.
At the same time, for tens of thousands of Ordos Mongols to help the old and the young pass through behind their own defense areas, the 3,000 battalions of Wu'anbo Wang courtiers and generals did not dare to take it lightly at all.
Emperor Chongzhen did not think about reorganizing the cavalry of the Ordos tribes on the spot and merging them into the 3,000 battalions or the Jiuyuan Town Guard Mansion and the Shuofang Town Guard Mansion, but after thinking about it, he finally accepted the suggestion of the Living Buddha of Samuteng Osir.
Because these monks and lamas of the Yellow Sect in Mongolia or Tibet are also masters who cannot afford to make a profit, if you want them to contribute to you and smoothly bring these Ordos people to Tibet to settle down, there is no benefit, they will not do it.
More than 10,000 of the 40,000 or 50,000 Ordos people were the target of the Living Buddha of Samuteng Osir, who would become natural cavalrymen as long as they had horses, bows and arrows, and would become the armed forces of His Holiness Tsongkhapa, the descendant of Tsongkhapa, who was stationed at the Ganden Monastery, against the increasingly powerful Zangpa Khan and Lindan Khan, who had moved west to Qinghai.
Without these young and strong men who could become cavalrymen, the Living Buddha of Samuteng Osir might not have been so active, and the Great Compassion King of Gaden Monastery might not have agreed to let these Mongols settle in his territory.
Therefore, the embryos of the young and strong cavalry among these Ordos people are nothing more than a tacit transaction between Emperor Chongzhen and the Living Buddha of Samuteng Osir and the current Daci Dharma King, whom he has never met.
