Chapter 12: Twice
In the damp and cold cell, only an oil lamp emits a dim light.
Jack Sparrow leaned against the wall, silently watching the prisoner in the next cell.
A few of them, like the other prisoners of our time, were covered in dirt and had black and yellow teeth.
One of them was holding the bone of an unknown creature, teasing a gray schnauzer with a cell key in his mouth in the hallway outside the cell.
"Come here, little darling, do you want to nibble on fragrant bones?" he said.
A few others were helping to get the dog's attention with a whistle.
"It's useless, that dog won't come. Jack sat there with a nonchalant expression.
Several people turned around, and one of them sneered: "I'm really sorry, it's not us who will be hanged tomorrow." β
After saying that, it immediately attracted a burst of ridicule from several other people.
Unimpressed, Jack leaned his head back against the wall and said with a smile, "Someone will come to my rescue." β
Suddenly, the ridicule was louder.
"This guy is so scared of death that he's hallucinating!"
"yes, he probably thought he was the illegitimate son of Lady Luck. β
However, at this moment, a crow, completely black, suddenly flew in through the window of the corridor of the cell.
Immediately, everyone's eyes were drawn to the crow.
After circling in the narrow hallway, the crow swooped down on the ground for Sherrena, snatched the key from the latter's mouth with one claw, and then flapped its wings and leaped high into the air to throw the key into Jack Sparrow's cell.
The key landed on the stone floor of the cell, making a "ding" sound, crisp and pleasant.
Finally, the crow flapped its wings and flew out of the window when it came in.
The whole process lasted less than ten seconds.
Suddenly, the few prisoners who had laughed at Jack before couldn't laugh anymore.
Jack was stunned, he knew that the boy would come to him during the dayβhe could clearly hear that the boy was interested in him.
But I didn't expect it to be this way.
Like a jumping fawn, Jack cautiously jumped to the key, kicked the key a few times with his toes, and saw that there was nothing unusual, so he pinched his fingers and bent down to pick up the key.
Then he went to the cell door and inserted the key through the keyhole from the outside and twisted it gently.
There was a soft "click", as if something had been opened.
Jack seemed to be startled and jumped behind him.
Then, cautiously, he leaned forward, pinched his middle finger and tapped the cell door with his index finger.
With a "crunch", the door opened.
"Aha!" Jack cried out in surprise.
Turning and putting his hands on his chest, he bent down and saluted the few prisoners who had mocked him before him.
"I'll see you later. He said.
With that, he picked up a piece of equipment from the hallway and disappeared around the corner of the stairs leading to the outside of the cell.
It was only then that the other prisoners finally came to their senses and yelled wildly at the place where Jack had disappeared.
"Bastard, let us out too!"
After a few screams, several people were surprised to find that Jack had gone and returned, and they were immediately overjoyed.
"Listen, man, we shouldn't have said that about you just now!"
"Yes, yes, we apologize to you, let us out!"
Jack looked at the group with a blank expression.
Then, he flashed the key in his hand to several people.
Under the expectant gazes of several people, Jack lowered himself and put the key back in the mouth of the gray schnauzer that was still squatting there stupidly in the aisle.
Straightening up, he grinned at the already stupid prisoners, pointing to the large bone in one of them's hand, the gold teeth standing out in the dim light.
"Keep it up!"
With that, he turned around and left again, disappearing from the sight of several people.
Only this time, he didn't come back.
......
At night, the fog is unusually heavy.
Neither the moon in the sky nor the sea level in the distance can be seen.
Only the waves could be heard crashing against the edge of the steep cliff with a loud rumbling sound.
A sneaky figure, taking advantage of the fog that filled the dock, dodged several waves of patrol guards one after another, hid himself behind several neatly stacked cargo boxes, poked his head out, and looked at a brig docked at the dock from a distance by the hazy moonlight.
On the stern of the ship is written the name of the ship - the Interceptor.
"You owe me once. β
A voice sounded in the background, startling the figure.
Stiffened, he turned his head and saw the handsome face of the boy during the day.
The latter was holding a torch and was standing behind him.
"It's you. β
The figure breathed a sigh of relief and stepped out from behind the shadow of the crate, revealing its strange face.
"You owe me once. Carl repeated.
Jack Sparrow grinned and raised an index finger.
"First, I didn't call you to save me. β
"Second, the reason why I was arrested in the cell was all because of you. β
"So, strictly speaking, you owe me once. β
Jack looked at Carl with a smile on his face, not in the slightest bit embarrassed.
Carl smiled too, and instead of retorting, he took something out of his arms.
With just one look, Jack's breath froze.
"I remember, it was supposed to be yours. β
"But I guess since you say I owe you once, you shouldn't want it. β
Anyway, Karl made a gesture to set things on fire with a torch.
"Don't!" Jack couldn't help but scream.
Carl stopped, didn't speak, held something in his left hand, held a torch in his right, and looked at Jack with a smile.
Jack was also looking back at him, looking unyielding.
So Karl leaned the torch back against his thing.
Suddenly, Jack was deflated.
"Well, I owe you once. Jack said dejectedly.
Karl shook his head, holding up two fingers.
"Now it's twice. β
"Hey!" exclaimed Jack in discontent.
Karl's face remained unchanged, just looking at him with something.
After a while, Jack compromised again.
"Well, twice. β
"Twice, what twice?" Karl asked with a smile.
"I owe you twice. Jackson said unlovingly.
"It seems that we have reached a consensus. Carl nodded in satisfaction.
With that, he threw the things in his hand to Jack.
Jack took it and immediately held it in his arms like a lover, not thinking that he would never see it again.
A moment later, he put it on his head.
It was a leather tricorne, the same one he wore every day.
It's just strange that the hat that had been split in half by Norrington's sword during the day was now intact again, and there was not a trace of damage.
"Boy, if you don't want to be a wizard in the future, you might as well consider becoming a tinkerer. β
Getting his hat back, Jack Sparrow is in a good mood and makes a joke about Carl.
However, to his surprise, the boy did not react to his words, but frowned for some reason.
At this moment, a cloudy wind suddenly blew on the dock.
Jack immediately sensed something, and as if he had a clear idea, he and Carl went up to the distant sea level at the same time.
Blown by the overcast wind, the fog on the sea has completely dissipated.
In the bright moonlight, a black-sailed warship appeared on the black sea in the distance.
From afar, it looks like a ghost ship.
