Chapter Eighty-Five: The Courtyard
Greece did not suffer from the same wars as it did in history, the city of Athens was still prosperous, and the early end of the war in Europe changed the future of the whole of Europe. Xu Jun's impact on this era is not only at the military level, but a kind of all-round change in the whole field, and at the same time, this influence will spread sharply outward over time, and will eventually sweep the whole world.
Europe is coming back to life at an astonishing rate, a fact that can be seen with the naked eye, and Greece, as a freight hub in the Mediterranean, has already benefited no small amount in the recovery process of old Europe.
If there had not been an Italian invasion, Greece would have also fallen to Germany, because this was the general trend. Greece was surrounded by German vassals or allies, and the British Empire, the biggest supporter, had already surrendered, and if the German Führer wanted to deal with Greece, he didn't even need to do it himself.
Although Greece has no blood feud with the Balkan scum, territorial disputes are inevitable, not to mention the Italians, who have always coveted the Adriatic coast and the Mediterranean islands of Greece, and Bulgaria, their neighbor to the north, have been holding back their strength to retake Aegean Macedonia.
Greece thought that Yugoslavia might have some backbone, but in the blink of an eye, this group of unruly guys firmly hugged the thighs of the Germans, not only could not count on this traditional ally, but also turned against each other at some point.
Prime Minister Metaxas is a staunch patriot, but he is also a seasoned politician, he may have been a simple military man when he came to power, but he has been trained in everything he wants after so many years. He knew that Germany's hegemony in Europe had been decided, and Greece had no choice in front of it, and it was really just a matter of thought to survive or destroy.
It's just that the Greeks never imagined that Germany would directly overthrow its former ally Italy for their own sake, which was a complete surprise for the Greek leadership, and Greek politicians even believed that this proved that Greece must have a very special value in the eyes of the German head of state.
With the hapless Italy as a stepping stone, Greece completely abandoned its former reserve and began to fully cooperate with Germany. Xu Jun had no idea that his decision would cause excessive associations among the Greeks, and saving Greece was just an excuse for him to clean up Italy, and it was an additional gain in exchange for Greece's wholehearted refuge.
The two-wheeled chariot looked imposing, but in fact the ride was extremely poor, because there was no shock system, and the wooden wheels covered with iron sheets were crushed against the uneven gravel road outside the city, and the German Führer almost bit his tongue.
However, the ensuing military parade was still very gorgeous and grand, and the young and handsome German Führer naturally became the focus of the audience, and the white figure standing on the horse-drawn chariot made the Greeks marvel at the god of war who descended to the mortal world.
The rest of the ceremonial activities were tedious and lively, and the Greek army showed the ability to press the bottom of the box, trying to leave an unforgettable memory for the guests. But in this world, apart from the Soviet bear in the east, what other country is better at parades than the Germans, so when the Führer's flag phalanx appeared, the Greeks were all shocked, and the audience involuntarily held their breath and stared in awe at the black phalanx like steel, and only the sound of the SS's neat leather boots was left in their ears.
The festivities, which lasted until the afternoon, are said to be a three-day celebration during which most of the factories and enterprises in Athens are closed and schools are closed, and everyone can have fun and celebrate this great victory.
This was extremely rare during the dictatorship of the Prime Minister of Metaxas, and the Prime Minister usually issued a similar order only on major national anniversaries or royal celebrations, and this time the Greeks were clearly blessed by the German Führer and got a rare opportunity to indulge.
After the ceremony, Metaxas personally escorted Xu Jun to the arranged accommodation, which was a luxurious courtyard full of classical atmosphere, the layout of the garden is said to have survived from ancient Roman times, and the verdant shrubs hide the mottled ancient marble sculptures, which are very unprecedentedly good in all of Greece.
Because from ancient Rome to Turkey, and then to modern Napoleon, France and the British Empire, there have been systematic looting of Greek cultural relics, especially the British Empire, if it is not for the fear of eating too ugly, I would like to tear down the Parthenon and move it back to China.
The house is a very standard Mediterranean villa style, from the layout can be seen that the scale of this courtyard is quite huge, maybe it was once a Roman senator or a wealthy businessman's vacation mansion, which is very common in the historical ancient cities of Greece, the Romans liked Greek culture, after the complete naturalization of the Greek city-state, the rich people of Rome built a large number of holiday villas and mansions here.
Metaxas was very knowledgeable, and did not discuss any official business with Xu Jun, but invited Xu Jun to be sure to come to the dinner at the palace that day, and after receiving an affirmative answer, he left happily, leaving a few hours of rest for the German Führer.
After getting familiar with the layout of the residence, Xu Jun washed up a little, changed into a comfortable set of army uniforms, and then ran to the gazebo in the garden and drank afternoon tea happily.
"The air here is really nice, and I don't see any bugs, my Führer." Weirle stretched out comfortably.
"If possible, I really want to live here for a while, listening to the birds, looking at the white clouds and blue sky, and feeling relaxed." Xu Jun sat back on the recliner and squinted at the sky.
"I'm afraid that your wishes will not be fulfilled for a long time, and Germany cannot do without your leadership, my Führer." Weirle smiled and complimented.
"Speaking of which, why hasn't Tysenhofen come back yet?" Xu Jun sat up bent over, picked up the teapot on the low table and poured himself a cup of hot tea.
"It takes some time for the communications office to set up the radio station, to set up antennas and generators and so on." Wehrle reminded.
Wherever the Führer goes, the Reich's base camp is there, in addition to all kinds of staff officers and expert advisers, every time Xu Jun travels, he always has a complete set of command teams around him, the most important of which is the Führer's private communications office, which is the core unit connecting the entire national command system, every order issued by the Führer, every request and report received, except for those sent in writing, are inevitably transmitted through radio waves, the Führer's communications office has the highest level of secrecy and communication priority in Germany, and all messages sent from here, will be forwarded and compiled as quickly as possible.
"Look, isn't he already here? Judging by the few pieces of paper he was holding in his hand, it should have been a result from Berlin. Weirle sat up and refilled his cup with water.
"My Führer, this is a telegram that has just been translated." Tysenhofen stepped forward, nodded to Xu Jun, and then handed the telegram to the head of the empire.
"Thank you, Eric." Xu Jun took the telegram and nodded at Tysenhofen.
"Is it Colonel Kirsten's telegram?" Werler asked Tysenhoven.
"Yes, General, along with the telegram from Marshal Keitel." Tysenhofen picked an apple from the fruit bowl on the table, then picked up the knife on the side of the fruit bowl and skillfully peeled it.
Keitel said in the telegram that the "stuffy bear" program was going well, and the Russians had already seen the toys we had prepared for them. Xu Jun turned his head to look at Weierle, a smug smile on his face.
