Chapter 4: The White Shadow in the Cave
In the dark underground cavern, Vane sat on the ground with his legs curled up, and eight fist-sized snail shells neatly laid out next to him. Just as he was about to pull the last snail out of its shell, a panicked footstep came from behind him.
"There are ghosts...... There are ghosts!" The man who came was the fat first mate, and he said inarticulate as he ran, his voice full of fear.
Vane stood up and turned around, although he couldn't see the fat mate's expression clearly, Vane still felt a little nervous when the fat body ran over.
"Ahh Probably due to constant fright, the fat first mate sat on the ground with his buttocks, and his legs were weak and he couldn't stand.
"What the hell?" said Vane impatiently. At this time, he was very disgusted in his heart, how could he meet such a guy who bullies the soft and is afraid of the hard, and is as timid as a mouse, even if there is no ghost in the first place, he will be scared out by you.
"After ...... Back! Two ...... No, three white ghosts!" the fat first mate recognized the person opposite as Vane, but that didn't diminish his fear, and he even stammered when he spoke.
"Tell me, what do those three white ghosts look like?" Vane said, with a hint of disdain in his voice. He didn't trust this fat man who could be ready to kill him for his own selfish gain.
"They are snow-white, full of fangs, and have glowing green eyes that will silently appear behind you...... Why are you looking at me like that?" said the fat first mate, who suddenly stopped.
I saw that Vane's expression was stiff, his mouth was slightly open, and his black pupils were rapidly dilated. The next moment Vane recovered from his terror, the chant of the spell sounded softly, and the sapphire staff he held up to his chest emitted a dazzling blue light.
The fat first mate seemed to have guessed something, and his fat body began to tremble, and his face turned pale. At this moment, the fat first mate was already like a frightened bird, he didn't look back, but his eyes widened, and he instantly burst out with amazing speed and strength, and rushed forward like a gust of wind.
"Bang!" As he ran wildly, the fat on the shoulders of the fat first mate hit Vane. Vane only felt a huge force coming, and his internal organs were churning, and then his back hit the rock wall next to him, and the whole person passed out.
......
After some time, Vane woke up, and found himself lying on the ground next to the rock wall, with a pain in the back of his head and a little chilly. Vane touched it with his hand, and some slimy liquid mixed with dirt stuck to his hair.
Thinking of what he had just seen, Vane's heart was still a little hairy.
As the fat first mate spoke, Vane saw several pairs of green eyes appear behind him. It wasn't like a human eye, it looked like some kind of animal. And what is even more creepy is that those things are all white, as if they are wrapped in a layer of white skin. Their bodies look similar to those of humans, except that their hairless heads are slightly protruding forward, except that they don't see a full face of fangs, which is basically the same as the fat first mate's statement.
What the hell are those? is it some kind of underground creature or is it really a ghost?Vane suddenly felt a chill run through his back. He wanted to take out the "Wizarding World Experience" to check it out, but after thinking about it, he forgot about it. The first is that the light here is too poor, and the second is that according to past experience, if you can't see the strange beast clearly, there will be no detailed record in the book.
Vane stood up against the rock wall, and cast a healing spell on himself as he endured the pain in his back. The pain in the back of the head has eased, but that's about it. Sure enough, I'm still not good at natural spells, I don't know where they are now, and they're stuck in this dark underground cavern like themselves, or are they running for their lives on the wasteland?
Vane shook his head and stopped thinking about it, the first priority for now was to get out of here. He straightened his satchel and prepared to follow the direction of the fat first mate's escape, when suddenly his hand touched something cold and hard.
Vane's heart moved, and he hurriedly took the square box camera made of metal in his hand. He fumbled to hold the camera straight in front of him, grasping it with both hands, and pressing his right hand on the shutter slightly.
"Click!" a crisp sound quickly spread through the cavern, and the surroundings were lit up for a moment, but soon enveloped in darkness. Seconds later, a palm-sized photo appeared in Vaen's hand.
Looking at the clear photo in his hand, Vane couldn't help but sigh at the magic of goblin technology. However, there are only a few dozen pieces of this kind of photo paper, so it is better to save some use. Vane slung the strap from the camera around his neck, picked up his staff and continued walking. Shortly after Vane left, several pairs of green eyes appeared where he had been standing.
Then Vane took a few more photos of his surroundings, and with the guidance of these photos, he felt much calmer.
This underground cavern does not seem to be as simple as it seems, as you can see from the photos, there is a flat ground like a square in front of you, and on the other side there is a dark cave entrance, and there seem to be steps leading to the upper floor.
As he got closer to the hole, Vane smelled a faint smell of blood. At first, he thought it was blood from the back of his head, but soon the smell of blood grew stronger, accompanied by the obvious sound of running water.
Standing in front of the steps at the entrance of the cave, Vane couldn't help but cover his mouth and nose. Even so, the heavy smell of blood sneaked through his fingers into his nostrils, churning his internal organs.
There seemed to be obvious signs of man-made construction here, but there were no creatures to be seen, if the green-eyed white ghosts were not counted.
The smell of blood came to his face, and the entrance of the cave in front of him was like a bloody mouth, exuding a dangerous aura. Vane hesitated, not knowing whether to go up or not.
At this moment, the voice of the fat first mate came from within, a moan of pain to be exact, and sounded extremely weak. Vane resisted the discomfort, clenched the staff in his hand, and strode up the steps.
Soon Vane made his way up the stone steps to the second floor. Despite being mentally prepared, the sight in front of him and the insurmountable smell of discomfort made Wayne can't help but vomit.
After finally stopping the stomach spasms, Vane wiped the corners of his mouth and looked carefully at the cavern in front of him.
It was an almost circular cavern with a low top, and there were a few places where there was a faint glimmer of light. In the middle was a pit three or four meters wide, filled with a dark, viscous liquid, and the skeletons of some unknown animals. There seems to be bubbles coming out of the surface of the liquid in the middle of the pit.
The walls around the cave appear to be hung with various disemboweling knives. The top was covered with dense hemp ropes, chains, and barbs, and several dead ice deer and other animal carcasses were hung from the roof of the cave, and of course, a human being.
The fat first mate was tied with thick hemp rope and his hands hung from the roof of the cave, his fat body looked bigger than the largest ice deer hanging next to him, and it was hard to imagine how he was hung up. As if hearing Vane's footsteps, the fat first mate's drooping head slowly lifted up.
The fat first mate was only three or four meters away from Vane, and he didn't act ecstatic when he saw Vane, but his eyes were full of fear.
Seeing the pitiful appearance of the fat pair, Vane finally overshadowed the disgust in his heart, and raised his staff to cast a levitation spell on him.
Levitation is a primary dark spell that has completely different effects depending on the caster's mental power and mastery of the dark magic. Higher mental power will keep the target floating for longer, and if you don't have enough mastery of dark magic, it can directly lead to a failed spellcast.
Fortunately, the fat first mate was already floating in the air, and the fat first mate, who only had half a life left, breathed a sigh of relief a little, and his face was a little more normal.
The spell from Vane's mouth continued, and the flames were already rising from the top of the staff, and the light of the fire illuminated the entire cavern. Seeing that he was about to be saved, the fat first mate had a frightened look in his eyes, and shouted to Vane in an almost dumb voice: "Run!"
"What?" Vane didn't hear the fat mate.
"Run!"
Vane finally heard clearly, and his brain began to racing. But instead of running away, he quickly turned in the direction of the cave entrance, raised his staff and quickly poured the magic energy into it, while chanting the last incantation.
"Bang!!" The fireball exploded violently in front of Vane.
