Chapter 14: The Giant Portal
The Everfree Forest is the largest forest on the continent of Raffrey, and possibly the largest in the entire world. It spans the three kingdoms of Beseca, Ataga, and Sabranto, and is estimated to be close to the entire kingdom of Beseca.
There are many legends about the Everfree Forest, some say that it is inhabited by an unknown ancient race, others say that there is a dragon's lair deep in the forest, and some even say that there is a lost elven kingdom inside.
Only a handful of people who have been to the depths of the Everfree Forest know that there is a tall crater with unknown beasts living nearby. And what is possible in the crater is only known to those magicians with high mana.
How the crater came into being is unknown, but it looks somewhat like a volcanic crater, surrounded by a continuous ring of mountains. The difference is that this crater is much larger than a normal crater, and the inner basin is densely vegetated, like a forest within a forest.
The appearance of the crater basin cannot be seen from the outside, and the towering mountain seems difficult for humans to access. But at this time, there were strong magical fluctuations constantly coming from the crater basin.
A dense forest in the middle of the basin has long since been razed to the ground, and the wooden houses scattered around the edge of the clearing indicate that it is not deserted.
In the middle of the clearing, a huge stone gate with a height of 100 meters towered. The stone gate is made of gray boulders, its width is more than fifty meters, and the strange thing is that the giant stone gate is just a door frame, and the middle is completely empty. There are also ropes, hinges, dismantled wooden frames, and unused stones scattered around the stone gate.
Around the giant stone gate, six magicians in black cloaks stood with their staffs, and the sheep's skulls embedded in the top of the staff continued to emit faint black smoke. Plumes of black smoke crossed through the giant stone gate, and upon closer inspection, a huge six-pointed star array was formed.
In a dilapidated wooden house about a few hundred meters from the giant stone gate, a boy of fourteen or fifteen years old sits on the damp floor of the room, cross-legged. He was shirtless, and there were a few purple whip marks on his thin spine.
"Brother, can we still go home?" I'm so scared......" the boy whispered as the corners of his mouth twitched, his voice crying.
"Ah......h The dozen or so other boys sitting around them also bowed their heads and remained silent, and a few of the younger ones sobbed quietly.
"Be quiet!" a somber voice came in from outside the door. "If you talk nonsense, I'll throw you into the portal as a snack!" Hearing this, the boy shuddered and leaned into the corner......
The black smoke that passed through the giant stone gate became thicker and faster. A transparent barrier appeared on the surface of the giant stone door, and black smoke sprayed on the invisible barrier, spreading in all directions.
The huge black six-pointed star began to flicker, and the black mages also looked a little struggling, and the sheep skull staff in their hands shook violently. The color of the six-pointed star became fainter and darker, and black smoke rolled in the middle of the giant stone gate, forming a black gate of nothingness.
"Roar ......" a low roar came from the portal, and just listening to the sound made people tremble.
A nearby black-cloaked man unconsciously took a few steps back. At that moment, a hand rested on his shoulder.
"Don't be afraid, this portal is one-way, and all you can hear from there is sound. A gentle voice came from behind.
"Vice President...... The black cloak's body shook, and he hurriedly turned around, lowering his head and not daring to look directly at the comer.
"Don't be so nervous, you're doing well, go down and rest. The woman said with a smile, her voice as gentle as a kitten.
The black cloak seemed to have been pardoned, and he picked up his staff and walked away quickly.
"Claude, why do you think they're so afraid of me? The woman said and blinked. She has a well-proportioned figure, delicate skin like a girl, short blue hair that hangs down to the base of her ears, and bangs in front of her forehead are slightly curved.
"I guess he must have coveted your beauty to get so flustered. A man named Claude said as he stood beside her. He licked his lips and looked at the woman next to him with unobstructed gaze.
"I hate it, I treat people like this. Just cut off his hands and feet to improve your pets' food. The woman touched her cheek and said shyly.
"As you wish, my dear Cynthia. Claude laughed lewdly as he reached out to Cynthia.
"Alright, the portal is complete, and you should go back. Cynthia said with a smile, nimbly dodging the big hands.
Claude wasn't angry, his greedy gaze flickering back and forth over Cynthia, his gaping mouth distorting his scarred face.
"Goodbye then, Cynthia. Claude turned and limped towards the portal, and soon his tall figure disappeared into the black smoke.
"Hmph, the toad wants to eat swan meat. Cynthia still had a smile on her face, but her tone became cold.
......
On the frozen wasteland, Vane walked briskly south with the Song of the Red Flame in hand. This strange staff seemed to be impossible to throw away, and when Vane tried to cast magic, it would automatically return to his hands.
"Bambu Bambu!" the white owl seemed to recognize Vane, and followed Vane without leaving his side. Its round body and fast-swinging wings make it look particularly comical.
What a headache, Vane rubbed his cheeks. A madman's staff, a dumb eagle, it's a bit maddening.
The fog in the early morning was much lighter, and the shadows of the northern elven villages in the distance gradually became clearer.
Vane followed the old route to the old man's house, and strangely the village seemed to be a little more dilapidated than before. Am I mistaken?" Vane wondered.
Vane didn't care about it either, he walked quickly, looking preoccupied.
A few minutes later, Vane arrived at the old man's door. The old man seemed to know that he was coming, and the girl named Lisa was already standing in the doorway.
"Young man, find that ...... Is the Glacier Temple?" the old man asked with a smile, his eyes occasionally looking at the staff in Vane's hand.
"Nope. Vane shook his head and said. His brow furrowed, and his tone was a little low. "Are you sure they went to the Glacier Temple?"
"They? Oh yes, that's exactly what they said. The old man hurriedly withdrew his gaze from the Song of the Red Flame.
"By the way, young man, can I see the staff?" the old man's breathing became rapid.
Vane sensed that the old man's request was a little strange, but he didn't think much of it, and handed him the Song of the Red Flame.
"Shhh The old man's fingers instantly turned blackened, and there was a trace of white smoke.
"This ......" Vane froze in place, a little at a loss for a moment.
"Hahahaha......" The old man suddenly burst out laughing maniacally, his hoarse voice creepy.
