Chapter 20 Yang Zhan's case, reorganizing the outer defense line of western Guangdong 2

Xiying is on the scene, Nanming is about to open the final chapter, and he has to prepare for the arrival of that day.

The map clearly marks the defense areas of the Ming army in the towns on the periphery of western Guangdong. Including Gaozhou, there were many factions of the Ming army in the mountainous prefectures and counties in the outer mountainous areas of western Guangdong. In addition to Li Yuanyin, Chen Bangfu and other army leaders, the original scale was Dong Fangce of Deqing Prefecture, Luo Chengji of Luoding Prefecture, Li Mingzhong of Gaozhou, Liang Shiyi of Yulin Prefecture, Xu Biao of Nanning, and Li Ya.

Nanning no longer exists. Qingguo Duke Chen Bangfu was unable to recover Nanning Mansion, and he attracted Li Guo and Gao Yigong from the loyal camp. Of course, the combat effectiveness of the loyal battalion crushed the local warlords in Guangxi, and Li Guo went into battle, killing Xu Biao and Li Ya in Nanning like cutting melons and vegetables, and killing Xu Biao's entire family.

This General Xu Biao recovered Nanning Mansion from Li Chengdong, who had not yet finished the battle, and he was quite a man with some military exploits. did not die in the national war, and the whole family died tragically in the civil war of the Ming army, which is really a pity. Xu Biao's death frightened his ally Liang Shiyi, the general soldier of Yulin, and the loyal battalion was like Mount Tai at the gate of Yulin, and Liang Shiyi had no choice but to completely fall to Qiongzhou. The Hainan Ming army took over the defense of Yulin until Rong County, Cenxi County, and Rong County in the Beiliujiang River Valley.

Li Guo and Gao Yigong did not force people too much, and the loyal battalion retreated all the way from Kuimen to Nanning within one year, and fought thousands of miles, with great losses. They stopped in Nanning Mansion to recuperate, conscripted troops and horses in the Tusi, licked their wounds, and did not make any further movements for the time being.

In addition, the immigration brigade from Hezhou arrived in western Guangdong from Tengxian County via the Beiliujiang and Nanliujiang rivers. These Ming and peasant armies were generally complete in structure and retained a certain degree of combat effectiveness.

For these peripheral troops, it is necessary to plan ahead of time to keep order. How to settle the retreating Ming army is a very difficult problem.

Recently, all officials in Hainan have learned two cases.

The first case is the Gaojie Department.

In the year of Hong Guangnian, the Nanjing Imperial Court forbade the remnants of Guazhou to retreat into the south of the Yangtze River, which of course had good reasons. Wherever the rout of the four towns ran, there was erosion. Jiangnan was the last wealthy place of the Southern Ming Dynasty, and once it was messed up by the defeated army of the four towns, the Nanjing court would no longer have to play. The artillery defeat of Jinshan Fort and Jiaoshan Fort led to the surrender of almost all the remnants of Gaojie, who became the vanguard of the Tatars moving south. These green battalion soldiers have strong combat effectiveness, such as Guo Hu, Gao Jinku, Zhang Tianlu and other towns are also the backbone of the Tatars in various battlefields.

The second case is Yang Zhanbu.

Yang Zhan is a Sichuan general. Zhang Xianzhong occupied Sichuan, and Yang Zhan was captured in Chengdu. With extraordinary force, Yang Zhan successfully escaped from prison and insisted on resisting in Jiading. Haoge slaughtered Sichuan, and Yang Zhan became the mainstay of the Ming Dynasty in Sichuan. Yang Zhan's military discipline is very good, he does not steal or rob, and raises troops in Jiading Tuntian. On the land in southern Sichuan, Lai Yang is fully extended. Sichuan was slaughtered back and forth by Zhang Xianzhong and the Tatars, and Jiading became a paradise in troubled times, saving many lives.

Yang Zhan accepted two friendly troops who had retreated into Jiading, and gave them defense areas and food and salaries. But the hearts of the people are bottomless, these two friendly troops coveted the wealth of Jiading, set up a Hongmen banquet to kill Yang Zhan, and captured Jiading Mansion. They didn't find any money in Yang Zhan's house, hung Yang Zhan's wife and tortured him, and finally disappointed to find that Yang Zhan's family had no money left, and the general soldiers of Jiading used all the money to raise soldiers and help the people.

A good general who was loyal to the country and had both ability and political integrity died at the hands of friendly forces in the Ming Dynasty. In the troubled times, there was no room for negligence, Yang Zhan was careless for a while, lost his guard against friendly forces, and paid a very heavy price. The body was killed, and the wife and children were tortured. Jiading Mansion, the last happy land in Sichuan, has disappeared since then. The Sichuan people, who were struggling to survive in Jiading because of Yang Zhan, were slaughtered by the warlords, and their wives and daughters became the playthings of bandits.

Yang Zhan is really a pity, and it has aroused strong resonance among the military and civilians in Hainan. Some people even cited Yang Zhan's case to say that Hainan does not need friendly troops. Of course, this is not good, it is too extreme. The real case is in front of the eyes of the Hainan military and civilians, the last Ming army that was not accepted, Gao Jie, the rest of Guo Hu and other green battalion strong towns will be besieging Guangzhou.

Acceptance is not, acceptance is not, two contradictory cases once made Hainan officials at a loss, and everyone was at a loss.

The rout of the army and the defeat of officials were actually a common problem faced by officials in the unoccupied areas of the Southern Ming Dynasty.

When faced with this kind of problem, the method was to force Jiao Lian, the local army of Guangxi, to kill two generals in a row, in order to obtain the loyalty of the Huguang and Yunnan troops who retreated into Guangxi. Since then, the Gui army has been disheartened and its combat strength has been greatly damaged. Qu Shiyun defended Guangxi, and the Gui army must be the most resolute troops, and the price he paid was too great.

The practices of other Ming orthodox officials were similar to those of Qu Shiyun. Li Chengdong gave up Zhaoqing Wuzhou to settle the Yongli Imperial Court, but a considerable number of court officials always wanted Li Chengdong's family to die.

The Ming Dynasty was originally a dying dynasty, and history handed over the mission of the national war to the descendants of the Zhu family, but their existing burdens were too heavy and they were unable to carry the country forward.

Sun Kewang, who was born into a rogue and Zheng Chenggong, who was born as a pirate, faced this situation and took a very different approach from the orthodox officials of the Ming Dynasty. Sun Kewang and Zheng Chenggong had loyal personal armies, and they used force to consolidate the remaining resources and confiscate the blank official photos scattered around. is indeed an anti-Tartar soldier, Sun Zheng will give a bite of food. For the troops who did not obey the order, Sun Zheng did not mind using force to solve the problem.

With limited resources, Sun Zheng strongly integrated the Ming army into their system. The original Ming army had freedom of movement and was crushed for thousands of miles. After being subsumed into the second domain of Sun and Zheng, the Ming army regained considerable combat effectiveness under the harsh military order system. The common characteristic of Sun Kewang and Zheng Chenggong is that they only approved a Ming Dynasty coat, and actually had their own set of military and political systems inside.

Sun and Zheng Erfan are role models for Hainan Island to follow.

Compared with the two feudatories, the downside of Qiongzhou is that it inherited more of the Ming legacy. Obviously, it is not easy for Qiongzhou to cut off the relationship with the imperial court, and it cannot be done to the extent that Sun Kewang and Zheng Chenggong.

The positive side of Qiongzhou is that the source of wealth and logistics is on Hainan Island, and Hainan Island is the foundation. With federal support, Hainan has a strong naval division. If the retreating Ming army from the south was placed in Haibei, it would be difficult for these soldiers who did not have sea ships to threaten Hainan itself.

Another difference from Hiroshi Guangnian is that the Tatar wars of the past few years have been extensively screened. The Ming army, which has resisted until now and has not surrendered, at least has a high determination to resist the Tartars, and will not easily shave their hair and surrender.

Order cannot sit idly by while these rebels are cornered, nor will they waste these precious human resources.

Obviously, the orderly movement can transfer scattered officers and civilians to Nanyang or Hainan Island, but it is impossible for the entire army to move there, and they may not be willing to go to Nanyang. Therefore, the main thing is to choose a place to settle these Ming troops in western Guangdong, and draw a retreat for them in the wild Borneo according to the depth of the cooperative relationship.

To be too merciful is to be cruel.

Ugly words must be said in the front, and before full trust is established, the Ming army must be used in a controlled manner. Like Sun Kewang, if there is a poorly obedient army, Shou Xiang does not mind using force to solve the problem.

Most of Haibei's original residents have moved to Hainan Island and Borneo, leaving less than a quarter of the population. The vacated farmland and houses can be used to undertake the rout of the refugees who are heading south.

On the question of choosing a place to resettle the defeated army, Shou Xian thought about it for a long time. Shou Order, first take out the Lianzhou Mansion. Qinlian has other uses, and there is still half of Leizhou and half of Gaozhou left to use, and the territory is relatively tight.

The Southern Ming army was frequently infighting over territory, military salaries, and women. If there is a mess accidentally, the Ming army on the periphery will not only not be able to play the role of the Ping Domain of Hainan Island, but may lead the way for the enemy.

Orderliness must be cautious in dealing with this issue. First of all, the military discipline of each unit of the Ming Army was screened, the equipment strength of each department was compared, and the character and equipment of the chief officer were examined. Then, according to the results of the investigation, the Haibei defense area was divided.

Leizhou, Gaozhou and Lianzhou are the key areas of coastal defense, border defense and Yao defense in the south, and the Ming Dynasty built many brick and stone castles in Sanfu. These castles are not large, generally with a circumference of 300-400 zhang, and the walls are 5 meters high, which is not a fortress and a dangerous county, but for the various armies retreating to the sea, these cities are their best foothold. With a little repair, the families of their officers and soldiers can be housed.

The inner defensive circle drawn by Leizhou is the Nandu River in the south of Haikang City, the capital of Leizhou, south of the Nandu River, including all of Xuwen County and most of Haikang County, which is directly managed by the Hainan Buzheng Division, and Hebei is handed over to the outer guard troops.

Within the actual control area of western Guangdong, outside the inner defense circle, there are four prefectures and counties of Haikang County, Suixi County, Huazhou City, and Shicheng County, the capital city of Leizhou, a city of Lemin Thousand Households, four secondary castles of Zhanchuan Inspection Division, Lingyuan Inspection Division, Hengshan Fort, and Baigemen Water Village, as well as dozens of smaller camp forts.

Each sub-camp fort is built with a city tower, which is not as beautiful as the state and county, and the color and style of the simple military fortress are simple.

The infrastructure of the prefecture and county is relatively perfect, which can be used as the base camp of the Ming army of each department, and the rest of the castle can be used as the garrison of the subordinate generals.

To place these troops, a Ming Dynasty skin was hung.

Zeng Ying is old, and the old man's body is not suitable for running back and forth between the two sides of the strait. Haibei Province needed a chief officer, and after discussing with Zeng Ying, Shou Xian chose Zhang Xiaoqi, and Zeng Ying undertook to worship Zhang Xiaoqi as the governor of Gao Lei. Zhang Xiaoqi selected 400 Jiangxi soldiers from the defeated army to build a Fubiao, and the governor's yamen was located in Haikang County, the capital of Leizhou.

Haikang County is in the south of the north of the river, and the adjacent Baigemen Water City is directly under the governor.

In fact, the governor did not care about civil affairs, and the land of Nandu Hebei was allocated to the armies, which were managed by themselves, and the money and food were left to their own devices. The county seat and the castle are used as the old camps of the various armies, but the defense area is not divided according to the original county border, but is more bounded by natural obstacles such as mountains and rivers.

The army that needs to be placed in order is divided into five major departments, namely Yuan Anguo of Xiaoyuan Ying, Cao Dahao of the Gan Army, Shuzhen of the Chu Army, Liang Shiyi of Yulin and Yang Yandi of Longmen Island.

Yang Yandi is a sailor sent by Deng Yao to assist in the defense, he is not a rout, and it is the easiest to place. Shou ordered the Zhanchuan Patrol Division and Nansandao to be garrisoned by Yang Yandi, who was close to Wuchuan County, where Yang Yandi's garrison could also echo with his old boss Li Mingzhong.

After years of cooperation between Yulin and Qiongzhou, the two sides have established a certain degree of trust. Liang Shiyi did not dare to stay in Yulin to face the loyal camp, and the Hainan Ming army was able to take over Yulin, and Liang Shiyi led his troops to retreat south. A considerable part of this Ming army has been transferred to Houjiang Prefecture, and the remaining combat troops have placed them in the Lemin Qianhu House after Cao Junfu withdrew.

Xiao Yuan's camp was the most numerous, and they were placed in Shicheng County, which has the Jiuzhou River, which flows into the Beibu Gulf alone. There are many river systems, with a navigable mileage of more than 100 kilometers, and inland river flat-bottomed boats can be traced all the way up the river to Luchuan County, Yulin Prefecture. Geographically, Luchuan County can be carved out of Yulin and merged with Shicheng County to form a war zone. The guard promoted Shicheng County to Lianjiang Prefecture and handed it over to the Xiaoyuan battalion for defense.

Luchuan County was handed over to the Cao Dahao Department of the Jiangxi Army, which had a close relationship with Xiao Yuanying. The Jiuzhou River is shared by the two departments, and the zero-edge inspection division of the sea mouth is also given to them. After all, the Gan army is Zeng Ying's hometown troops, and it must be moderately preferential.

Finally, there is the Chu army. The Chu army, which had withstood the blows of the main Tatar forces, had fought the hardest in the past few years, was scattered and did not have a core force. The Chu army that withdrew to western Guangdong came from seven or eight troops, and the military discipline was both good and bad.

Shou Xuan smiled and stretched out his hand to one of the generals, "General Xiang Mingshi, it's been a long time." ”
