Chapter 16: Blindness

"Die!" Vane said almost with a roar, his eyes red and his face contorted with anger.

The previous scene flashed through his mind, and he didn't expect everything to turn out to be an elaborate deception. A false hope is more devastating than a real tragedy, not to mention that the disillusionment may be followed by a real tragedy.

Why? Why deceive me? Why let me suffer this pain?

The blazing flames converged into a ball at the tip of the staff, and the flames hunted in the wind, more violent than usual, just like Vane at this time. In the cold wind, Vane held the staff in both hands, and even so, the staff still trembled slightly uncontrollably.

"Boom!" fireballs shot out like flaming cannonballs, with anger, with hatred, with despair.

The next moment, the fireball slammed into a severely weathered stone pillar not far away, and the stone pillar collapsed instantly, and the dust in the sky gently drifted away.

Vane's pupils constricted, and his movements stiffened. No way, the fireball was about to hit her just now!

But the girl Sally did disappear, as evidenced by the emptiness in front of her eyes and the vanished stone pillars. The Lord of the Wasteland still floated silently, as if he had expected all this.

"Little brother, are you looking for me?" a bewitching voice came from behind him. Vane's hairs stood on end in an instant, and his head buzzed. He jerked around and stepped back.

It was a pair of beautiful eyes, with a lilac glow in the pupils, like a mysterious star in the universe.

Vane's eyes became a little misty, his clenched hands unconsciously drooped, and his body slowly relaxed. What am I afraid of with such beautiful eyes? Vane wanted to see the face of the owner of those eyes, and even wanted to put down the staff in his hand, but the last trace of consciousness he had left was still making a final struggle.

"Hum!" the song of the Red Flame let out a rapid humming sound and shook violently. As if awakened suddenly, Vane's body shook and his eyes returned to their original clarity.

In front of him was a pair of sharp claws, almost touching his face. Vane threw his head back, subconsciously swinging his staff to remove the terrible claws.

"Zila......" The song of the Red Flame touched something and made a burning sound. Then a series of screams of pain rang out in front of Vane, stabbing his scalp.

The succubus grabbed her left arm and stepped back, her mouth grinning in pain, sharp teeth peeking out of it, looking very painful, and white smoke faintly emitting from the wound. The familiar look on her face had vanished, replaced by a pair of grim eyes staring at Vane viciously.

Vane certainly wouldn't give her a respite. A mysterious symbol lit up on the Song of the Red Flame, and the ruby at the top flashed with light, and the primary nature spell, the Slowness Technique, had been cast on the succubus's body. The succubus's body froze, and his speed immediately slowed down.

Retardation is a very ancient form of magic that was widely used by forest elves thousands of years ago, mainly to fight against alien beasts and capture prey. A person or animal who has been blessed with retardation feels heavy and slows down. The caster's mental power, mastery of the Slowness Technique, and the target's mental power and status all affect the effect to varying degrees.

Maybe it's because the fireball dodge technique consumes too much mental power just now, or maybe it's because of an arm injury, and the charm at this time seems to be greatly affected by the sluggishness technique. She stepped back in slow motion, perhaps only slightly faster than the tortoise.

Vane kept saying incantations, faster and faster, but every note was incredibly accurate. After two or three breaths, a plate-sized fireball detached from the tip of the staff, dragging a long tail flame towards the succubus.

The succubus's eyes were full of panic, and she tried desperately to dodge, but her body seemed to be in slow motion. The fireball in her pupils grew larger and larger, and the fear and despair in her heart continued to expand.

"Boom!" the fireball exploded on the succubus without any suspense, and the flames rose into the air. The impact of the fireball tossed the succubus's body and landed heavily two or three meters away.

A moment later, the flames cleared, and there was a scorched corpse on the ground.

"Lisa!" came the angry roar of the Lord of the Wasteland from behind. As soon as Vane turned around, he felt that he was lifted high by a force majeure, and the whole person involuntarily flew backwards.

"Poof!" Vane slammed into a wall behind him, spitting out a mouthful of blood. The power came from the Lord of the Wasteland, and wisps of smoke erupted from his dark eyeholes, pinning Vane to the wall like a human specimen.

"Since you've killed my best men, you'll take her place!" the grim voice of the Lord of the Wasteland came from the bones. He pointed his bone staff at Vane, and a low incantation rumbled. A bone spear more than half a meter long formed in front of the Lord of the Wasteland, and it braved the cold air and suddenly flew towards Vane!

The thumb-thin bone spear pierced Vane's right shoulder in an instant and stabbed deep into the wall behind him. Blood slowly trickled down Vane's right shoulder, and the pain immediately came, and he bowed up, his pupils rapidly dilated.

"Ho Ho ......" Seeing Vane's appearance, the Lord of the Wasteland let out a weird laugh that made people feel creepy.

Bone spears stabbed at Vane one after another. The Lord of the Wasteland seems to be deliberately torturing Vane, arms, thighs, abdomen...... Vane had been nailed to the wall with more than a dozen bone spears, but he had not been injured. The chill on the bone spear began to invade Vane's body, and the pain was so severe that Vane couldn't think. Blood soaked through Vane's clothes and ran down the wall like a bloody man. He felt his life draining away quickly, and the fear of death loomed over him.

"Whoosh!" another bone spear flew quickly. By this time, Vane had fallen into a semi-comatose state, but his consciousness had not yet been completely lost, and he was in mortal danger. But Vane couldn't control his body, so he could only clench the staff in his hand with all his might.

Just as it was about to strike, the Song of the Red Flame seemed to feel Vane's call, and it flew upwards and crossed in front of Vane.

"Poof!" the bone spear stabbed on the Song of the Red Flame and buzzed, but it was stubbornly blocked. However, the tiny tip of the spear broke away from the bone spear and passed through the gap between several rattans, instantly piercing Vane's left eye.

The sharp stinging pain caused Vane to snort, and he fainted as soon as his eyes went dark.
