Chapter 962: From the Worship of True Martial Arts

Xu Yuqing, the ceremonial secretary of the Ministry of Rites, also suggested that Emperor Chongzhen personally issue a holy decree to send the descendants of the Zhang family of the Han Heavenly Master Mansion and the disciples of the Zhengyi faction from the Heihan Heavenly Master's Mansion and the Great Shangqing Palace in Longhu Mountain, Jiangxi, to preside over the national mourning ceremonies such as sacrificing loyal martyrs.

Jia Jichun, the left deputy capital of the imperial capital, Niu Juming in the staff of the Ministry of War, and Xu Yuqing in the Ministry of Rites and Ceremonies who were transferred from the Ministry of War to the Ministry of Rites are the backbone of some of the imperial mouthpieces that Emperor Chongzhen has deliberately cultivated in the court.

Soon after Emperor Chongzhen returned to the Qianqing Palace after reading the Protector Zhongyi Temple, the words he said in the Protector Zhongyi Temple quickly reached the ears of these people.

Only two days later, there were these letters asking for the construction of the martyrs' shrine to praise the martyrs.

However, after all, it was not from Emperor Chongzhen's direct instructions, so these people's performances were still some distance from Emperor Chongzhen's original intention.

However, considering that these royal mouthpieces themselves are also from the so-called disciples of Confucianism, it is indeed a bit difficult for them to promote the belief in the Zhenwu Emperor derived from Taoism in the recitals that they publicly presented to the emperor.

Now, it is good that they can put forward a proposal to build a martyr's shrine and have it worshiped by Taoist priests and pay tribute when they are young.

At the same time, several cabinet ministers, especially Xu Guangqi, who was in charge of the Ministry of Rites, did not put forward any proposed opinions on the performance of these people, and presented them to the emperor as they were.

It's not that they're lazy, it's that there's really no way for them to question it.

Although they have different interpretations of what Emperor Chongzhen said in the Temple of Protecting the Country and Loyalty, they also have deep doubts, and they are a little worried that a situation similar to that of Emperor Jiajing's worship of Taoism will appear again in the Forbidden City.

However, they had no way to refute the proposal of Jia Jichun, Niu Juming, and Xu Yuqing to build a martyr's shrine and collect sacrifices for the officers and soldiers who had fallen in battle since Wanli.

And not only did they have no way to refute it, but no one dared to refute it among the civil and military ministers of the Manchu Dynasty.

It's not that these people are afraid of offending the royal mouthpieces of these emperors, or that they are afraid of offending Emperor Chongzhen behind these people, it's not the case.

The ministers of the Ming Dynasty really had a lot of people who were not afraid of offending the emperor.

In the final analysis, it is because this incident itself is a matter that has won the hearts of the military.

After Jia Jichun and others were sent to the palace, for two days in a row, first the left and right governors of the Governor's Mansion of the Five Armies of the Beijing Division, and the left and right protectors wrote to support, and then the ministers of the court and the central government successively wrote to express their support, such as the military department Shangshu Nan Juyi, the left attendant of the military department, Huang Ming Zhongyi, the martial arts hall sacrifice Mao Yuanyi and other important figures.

For the left and right governors and left and right protectors of the Governor's Mansion of the Five Armies, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to unite the morale of the army and boost morale.

Otherwise, how will these governors and guards of the Governor's Mansion of the Five Armies command the officers and men of their respective armies in the future?

This issue is even more so for Nan Juyi, and of course the military department can't help but support this matter.

As for people like Mao Yuanyi, in addition to him who is now in charge of the martial arts hall, his father Mao Guoqi was a famous general on the Korean battlefield back then.

According to the emperor's meaning, Mao Guoqi is very likely to be enshrined in the Protector Zhongyi Temple, how can such a major event not be supported?

Therefore, after Emperor Chongzhen forwarded these concerts that came to express his support to the cabinet as soon as possible, this matter would be a certainty.

The whole decision-making process only took a few days, and it is very rare that during the whole process, there was no strong opposition.

Emperor Chongzhen was not worried that such a proposal to reward the loyal martyrs would attract opposition, but he was only worried that his decision to use the Taoist priests of the Zhengyi faction to preside over the sacrifice of loyal souls and promote the belief in true martial arts through the sacrifice of loyal souls would be opposed by the Chinese officials of the court.

However, it turned out that after tying the folk belief in the Zhenwu Emperor with the loyal souls of the fallen soldiers, the matter turned out to be surprisingly smooth.

Only Xu Guangqi, a scholar of the Wenhua Hall and a scholar of the Ministry of Rites, mentioned in his draft that the Zhengyi and the Quanzhen Dao could be equally important to the north and the south.

As for the first assistant to the cabinet, Li Guoyang, and the cabinet minister and minister of military aircraft, Sun Chengzong, they have always remained silent on this issue.

In this way, on the eighth day of the second month of the fourth year of Chongzhen, Xu Yuqing and others submitted by Xu Yuqing and others in the Ministry of Rites and Ceremonial Officials were approved by Emperor Chongzhen.

Emperor Chongzhen also dictated to the political envoys, asking them to announce the edicts to the world in the form of a palace newspaper.

The first of them is the edict to crown the God of Zhenwu Xuantian as "Protecting the Country, Bless the Holy Arctic Town, Heavenly Demon Zhenwu Emperor".

Doing so is equivalent to further raising the status of Zhenwu Xuantian God to a new level and reaching the specifications of "Zhenwu Emperor" on top of the title of "Xuantian God" and "Zhenwu Demon Tianzun" added by Zhu Di of Ming Chengzu, and the title of "Arctic Town Tianwu Xuantian God" added by Ming Chengzu Zhu Di.

After doing so, Zhenwu's status is basically on par with the Jade Emperor, the highest immortal level of Taoism such as the Jade Emperor.

Now this Emperor Chongzhen doesn't want to do anything to pretend to be a god and a ghost, but in the current situation, if he wants to continue to stimulate the military and the people's martial and loyal spirits, in addition to improving the status of the army and the status of the martial arts, we must also make full use of the people's belief in the true martial arts Xuantian God.

It is an effective means to build a temple of loyalty and righteousness to protect the country or a shrine to protect the country, so that the fallen soldiers who died on the battlefield can enjoy the martyrs' shrine and worship the Emperor Zhenwu.

At the same time, whether it is the temple of protecting the country and loyalty, or the martyrs' shrines that will be built in various places in the future, it cannot be finished after it is built, but it should be sacrificed for a long time and let it continue to burn.

This requires special sacrificial personnel to manage, and the Taoist Zhengyi faction, with Zhenwu Xuantian God as one of the main deities, meets this requirement.

In the middle and late Ming Dynasty, there were two major schools of Taoism, one was the Quanzhen sect in the north, and the other was the Zhengyi sect in the south.

Each faction has its own characteristics and strengths.

In fact, among these two major sects of Taoism, this Chongzhen Emperor now admires the Quanzhen sect more in his heart.

Because the Taoist priests of the Quanzhen School, especially the Longmen Taoist priests handed down from Qiu Chuji, generally practiced the precepts of self-denial, forbearance, pure cultivation, self-suffering, no wife, vegetarianism and so on.

Compared with those Zhengyi Taoist priests who can marry wives and have children, Quanzhen Taoist priests obviously have more monastic cultivation.

However, Emperor Chongzhen thought about it for a long time and decided to choose the Zhengyi faction.

On the one hand, there are certainly factors such as Emperor Taizu Zhu Yuanzhang, Emperor Chengzu Zhu Di, and later Emperor Jiajing's repeated promotion and reuse of Taoism.

On the other hand, it is also because the Taoist priests of the Quanzhen School mainly pay attention to personal clarity and cultivation, and pursue more personal feathering into immortals.

At the same time, the Quanzhen sect is not a sect of talismans, and it does not engage in religious rituals such as talisman spells, alchemy and medicine, exorcism and healing, and prayer for blessings and disasters.

In this way, although the Quanzhen school seems to be more high-end and pursued, but for ordinary people, it is separated by a layer of things.

This is just like Mahayana Buddhism and Hinayana Buddhism in Buddhism, one is to save oneself before others, and the other is to save others before oneself.

In this case, Emperor Chongzhen can only choose the Zhengyi faction, which is more popular and more popular with the common people.

It was also in this edict that was publicly announced to the world, Emperor Chongzhen ordered Zhang Xianyong, the fifty-first generation heir of the Han Heavenly Master's Mansion in Longhu Mountain, Jiangxi, to bring his eldest son Zhang Yingjing and a number of disciples of his superiors, and then go north to Beijing to meet and listen to it.

At the same time, Emperor Chongzhen was also in the edict, ordering Lu Shanji, the governor of Liaodong, to build the Liaodong Martyrs' Shrine and the Martyrs' Cemetery in Yiwu Lushan at the site of Yiwu Lushan Mountain;

ordered Yang He, the governor of Xuanda, to build the Datong Martyrs' Shrine and the Baishan Martyrs Cemetery at the site of Baishan Mountain in the northeast of Datong Province;

Liang Tingdong, the governor of Zhili, was ordered to select a site to build the Jundu Mountain Martyrs' Shrine and the Jundu Mountain Martyrs Cemetery on Jundu Mountain, and to build the Taihang Martyrs' Shrine and the Zijingling Martyrs Cemetery on the Bauhinia Ridge.

Ordered the five roads of Dongjiang Town to control the Andong Hou Mao Wenlong in the Miaoxiang Mountain north of Anzhou within the jurisdiction of the Andong Town Shoufu, and selected the site to build the Dongjiang Martyrs' Shrine and the Miaoxiangshan Martyrs Cemetery, and buried the remains of the fallen soldiers or the spirit tablets of the gods;

ordered Shao Jiechun, the governor of Guizhou, to build the Qianxi Martyrs' Shrine and the Qianxi Martyrs Cemetery on the outskirts of Guiyang to bury the relics of the Ming officers and soldiers who died in the pacification of the Shuixi Rebellion or the spiritual tablets of the gods;

Each loyal martyr's shrine, dedicated to the statue of the Emperor Zhenwu and the Emperor of the Holy Emperor, are all worthy of the spiritual position of the god of the fallen soldiers, and are presided over by the disciples sent by the Daolu Si Zhengyin Zhengyi to teach the great true people to live in the ancestral hall, and they are enshrined at the age of the year.
