Chapter 938: Why Study Buddhism (5)
The Zen patriarch once said that some people's spiritual insights can become Buddhas, but not demons.
It seems that the attainments of demons are higher than those of Buddhas, because Buddhas are on the right path, while demons are on the opposite path.
Therefore, Mahayana says that only bodhisattvas with more than ten lands can be qualified to be demon kings, turn the world upside down, and turn heaven and earth upside down, this kind of realm is not something ordinary people can do.
Only bodhisattvas with more than ten lands can be emperors who rule the world, so sometimes they act like a demon king. For example, there is a practice in Tantra that is the Vajra Tantra, which is not something that ordinary people can do or understand, because the appearance is the opposite of the general idea.
Manjushri asked, "What is the non-path practice of the so-called Mahayana Bodhisattva path?" Vimal replied at length.
Answer: If a bodhisattva walks in the five infertile realms without being troubled, and as for hell, there are no sins, and it is not easy to walk in the wrong way like this.
When you hear this, don't act like a person and say that you are a bodhisattva and do not follow the path, then it is really a non-way.
Vimala said that even if a person who cultivates the bodhisattva path goes to the Infernal Hell, he will not feel troubles and pains.
There are two bodhisattvas in Buddhism to set an example for us, one is the Jizo King Bodhisattva, who spends all beings in hell forever. The other is Devadatta, the Buddha's cousin, who has always been against the Buddha and wants to harm the Buddha everywhere in his life.
Once, when he pushed a stone down from a mountain, he crushed the Buddha's toe and bleed, and although he went to hell, he felt that the happiness there was greater than the happiness of the three heavens.
The Buddha said that Devadatta, although he was against him, was actually the Buddha's teacher, and he was the one who went against the Buddha's path to hone the Buddha's teachings and promote the Buddha's speedy enlightenment. Therefore, the Buddha gave Devadatta in the Lotus Sutra to Devadharma, which should be reborn as a Buddha in the future.
It's harder to go against the path than to go on the way, you have to do it, but do you have the ability to do it? He felt that he was better than the three meditation heavens in hell, without anger and guilt.
If you have this ability, you dare to say that if I don't go to hell, who will go to hell, this is the Bodhisattva Path. We only look at the front of the ordinary path, and the front of the wall is very easy to see, and the whole wall is black, and you can't see that there is light and light in the black, which is the reverse path of the Bodhisattva Path.
The Dharma is not necessarily in a high mountain, in a pure place, or in a temple, and a true great bodhisattva may not have a word of Buddha in his mouth, so don't look at the world and people in the form of religion.
There are bodhisattvas everywhere in society, even among the beasts such as dogs, cows and horses, such as a monk who went to the temple in the south to specialize, she wrote to me that there was a white rooster there, and she couldn't drive it away, and pecked all day long to make the sound of chanting Buddha "Buddha Buddha, Buddha Buddha", and everyone was amazed.
The Dharma is still in the world, and the Sixth Patriarch said: "The Dharma is in the world, and it is not separated from the world." Leaving the world to find Bodhi is just like asking for a rabbit's horns. ”
There is no place in society where there is no Dharma. Although Buddhism says that Buddhism is about to decline in the era of the end of the Dharma, the Buddha does not talk about the end of the Dharma, the image of the Dharma, and the Dharma at all in the Mahayana scriptures.
The Dharma is immortal in the world, and the truth does not change in the world, but it is expressed differently in different places and at different times. It doesn't have to be this image, it's not necessarily this religion, but it's all about Buddhism.
I often tell people not to think of drowsiness as meditation, because you think that you have achieved the result, but you end up in the slaughterhouse. Don't think that being groggy and ignorant is empty, that you have no place to live, that your mind is getting worse and worse, that you have no memory, and that you are becoming more and more idiots. If I am proud and slow, hateful, and poisonous in my heart, the result will be to become a poisonous snake and beast.
