Twenty-fourth: Xuanzang talks about the theory of dependent origination, and then talks about the changes in human nature in neighboring countries (I)

I saw Master Xuanzang take a sip of tea and then say to them: "The root of this Brahmanical religion's division of people into four castes is the fatalism that emphasizes karma and the cycle of life and death. The belief that Brahma created life, that every life has a soul that will be reborn or reincarnated, and that good and evil will be recompensed, and that this cycle of reincarnation begins again and again, without beginning and end. In order to attain liberation, one must attain the state of Brahman-self oneness, in which the soul and God become one.

There are three paths to liberation: one is the path of deeds, which strictly observes various precepts and routine sacrifices; the second is the path of knowledge, through study, practice, personal testimony, etc.; The third is the path of piety, which is graced by faith in God.

And people of the lower castes can only be reincarnated into the higher castes after they are reborn, only by constantly practicing, constantly learning, and constantly sacrificing to the gods. The Brahmanical caste problem, he did not admonish people to break this unequal system, but to make people obedient, to give people a rising desire.

The most fundamental point of Buddhism is to deny fatalism and open up the theory of dependent arising. He believes that people have a destiny, but does not encourage people to resign themselves to fate, but hopes that people create a destiny.

Buddhism advocates that all dharmas arise from karma, so fate is also born from karma. Bad fate can be changed by planting good karma. Since fate can be changed by practicing compassion, cultivating merit, and cultivating repentance, fate is not necessarily unchangeable.

No matter how bad the fate is, it can be reformed through various practices. On the contrary, if a good destiny is not well maintained, it will also be lost and degenerate, and the so-called 'be prepared for danger in times of peace' is precisely this principle. ”

"What the Master said is very true, a fatalism, a dependent origin theory, this is far from the same" Li Daozong listened carefully to his words, and took advantage of the gap to interject.

Master Xuanzang smiled slightly, and then said to them modestly: "Buddhism also talks about the Dharma born of karma, I said that it is emptiness, also known as pseudonym, and also the middle morality. He also said, "There has never been a Dharma, which does not arise from causes and conditions, and is therefore all Dharma, and all of them are empty."

That is, all things are born of causes and conditions, and since they are born of all causes, they have no self-nature and are empty. Buddhism holds that when causes and conditions do not exist, things disappear, and such a phenomenon is emptiness.

So, what is karma? The cause is the main condition, and the dependent is the auxiliary condition, and when neither the main condition nor the auxiliary condition is present, there is no existence of things. Therefore, the existence of anything needs to have a primary cause and a secondary cause.

When the cause is present, the thing exists; When the cause is not there, things disappear. The theory of dependent arising is the basis of Prajna's thought. Prajna attaches great importance to "dependent origination".

There is a verse in "The Buddha Says the Merit Sutra for Building a Tower": "All laws are born by fate, and I say that they are karma; Thus saith I do." From the standpoint of Buddhism, everything is not created by God, but is formed by the aggregation of various causes and conditions, which is the fundamental principle of Buddhism and the core idea of Prajna. "Dependent arising" is an important point in our understanding of Prajna's thoughts. That's why Buddhism doesn't have a creator! ”

After Master Xuanzang, he gave another explanation of the theory of dependent origination. Li Shimin followed Master Xuanzang's words and said: "So, the two religions are opposed to each other, although they both believe in cause and effect. But one is obedient, and the other is about changing cause and effect through one's own efforts. One advocates that Brahma created all things, and the other advocates that dependent origin and extinction, and that the dependent law concludes all things, so these different propositions form such a contradictory struggle of opposites! ”

"Your Majesty is very good at this, so when Brahmanism arises, it is when Buddhism falls; When Buddhism arose, it was when Brahmanism declined! It has been a thousand years since they fought with each other, fought with each other, and theorized with each other. This is the fundamental reason why I want to go far away," Master Xuanzang replied sincerely.

The three of them, under the old crooked neck jujube tree, discussed the five Indian issues openly and honestly until the sun set...

In the final analysis, the problems of the two religions are caused by human nature; Although at the beginning of human beings, their nature is good, their sex is similar, and their habits are far away. But human nature is selfish. If reincarnation as a good person is regarded as the ultimate result, Brahmanism pays attention to going with the flow, and this result can be obtained; Buddhism, on the other hand, tells people that it takes a lot of effort and a lot of good thoughts to get this kind of fruit.

Imagine, in the face of such a big difference, it is quite easy for one to get bread, and it takes a fight for one to get bread; Of course, what is easy is easier for people to accept, and this is the fundamental reason why Brahmanism (Hinduism) has endured in India, and it is also the reason for the heart of a nation......

Since the king of the precepts of Buddhism, under his leadership, Buddhism flourished in the five Indias, adhering to the wisdom and benevolence of the good thoughts, he not only stopped the sword soldiers, but also stopped the destruction of Brahmanism, and chose the governance strategy of the coexistence of the two religions. But if you are kind, others may not be merciful...... And this also laid a deep bane for its ending in the near future......

The three emperors and five emperors of morality, the famous Xia Hou Shang Zhou, the five tyrants and seven heroes made trouble in the Spring and Autumn Period, and they rose and fell in an instant. There are a few lines of names and surnames in the green history, and there are countless barren hills in the north, where the predecessors sowed seeds and the descendants reaped them, which is nothing more than a dragon fight. The long river of history is rolling, like a seven-colored rainbow, joy, anger, sorrow, sorrow, and horror, how many swords and swords. Three emperors and five emperors ruled the world, and dynasties were constantly changing. Who can benefit the people?

The story of the rise and fall of the dynasty, to put it bluntly, is nothing more than a history of struggle and defeat. Since there are struggles and losers, it is naturally inseparable from the characters who dominate the rise and fall of these dynasties.

In the midst of the heyday, a particularly strong figure suddenly collapsed; Then the dynasty he led may not only decline halfway, but also fall apart.

In the period of decline, the sudden collapse or demise of a loser. Then the dynasty he leads may continue to decline or rise strongly, depending on the ability of his successor.

To put it in layman's terms, the rise and fall of dynasties from ancient times to the present day is inseparable from people's strategy, intelligence, and ability. Looking back at the five Indias, it is still the same......

In the first book, we talked about the kingdom of Virajuna, whose king was none other than Alonashun, the minister of the kingdom of Holysha, and whose wife was Almita. This Alonashun has followed this king of the Ring since he was a child, fighting in the south and the north, so he has won his trust.

Because he was a Kshatriya caste, he was also a nobleman of this country of Virajuna, so after the king of the ring of the sun unified the five Indias, he made him the king of this country of Virajuna.

And his wife, Almita, although she was also a Kshatriya nobleman, had been a believer in this Brahmanism since she was born.

And what will happen to them? See the next section......
