Since its serialization, "The Rise of Great Powers" has been highly praised by intellectuals in the Republic of China because of its systematic, comprehensive and methodical writings. Although many of these views are controversial www.biquge.info they are generally recognized, and Zhou Hexuan is also known as an "authority on world historical research".
This authority is recognized, not brainless.
The development of Western historiography has gone through four stages:
First, classical historiography.
Second, medieval historiography.
Third, Renaissance historiography.
Fourth, modern historiography.
Modern historiography arose in the First World War, and scholars began to incorporate economic, social, cultural, and mass factors into the scope of historical research. Until then, the object of historiography has always been the upper echelons of rulers and elites, as well as their behavior.
In other words, it has only been ten years since the birth of modern historiography. Even Western historians were still in the process of gradual exploration at this time, and modern historical theories had not yet been developed.
And China's historiography is even more backward.
It was not until the late Qing Dynasty that Liang Qichao, under the influence of Japanese scholars, took the lead in putting forward new historiography in China. This so-called "new historiography" is actually the "Renaissance historiography" of the West, which advocates development, progress, rationality, and science.
About four years ago, Liang Qichao published "Chinese Historical Research Method", and the Chinese historiography finally entered the stage of "modern historiography".
In other words, modern historiography was born in the West for less than 10 years, and in China for only 4 years. And the exposition of the history of various countries in "The Rise of Great Powers" is all based on the analysis of modern historiographical theory, how can it not be amazing?
As far away as Western Europe, when an article on "The Rise of Great Powers" passed by, the scholars there were like treasures, which had already caused a sensation in European historiography. It's just that because of distance and communication, the Chinese academic community is not clear about this matter, otherwise Zhou Hexuan's reputation will be so big that it will frighten people to death.
Lucien Fèvre, the famous French historian and founder of the Annals school (which is still not founded), told his students in a lecture last month: "You should read The Rise of Great Powers, which is a classic work of world history and should not be missed by those who study history." ”
Arnold Joseph Toynbee, a famous British scholar and later known as "the greatest historian of modern times", also wrote in the first volume of his magnum opus, Historical Research, which he was currently writing: "The Rise of Great Powers has inspired me a lot, and it is hard to believe that it was written by a Chinese scholar, and its historical discourse on science and technology and culture has fascinated me. ”
Whether it is Favre in France or Toynbee in England, they are both scholars who have made outstanding contributions to the development of modern historiography. However, although they were very famous at this time, their respective classics had not yet been born, so it is conceivable how backward modern historical research is today.
Zhou Hexuan's "The Rise of Great Powers", even if placed in the world, is one of the foundational works of "modern historiography".
Especially in China's major universities, students have regarded this series of articles as an important window to understand the world.
That's why so many publishers have come to the door to publish the book. In addition to the Beijing New Book Company and the Commercial Press, there are also the New China Press, Kaiming Bookstore, Oriental Library, Jinghua Bookstore, and Modern Bookstore...... and many other publishing houses, all of which have sent people to contact one after another.
Even Lili Books, which publishes popular books, also wants to climb the relationship (published "The Legend of the Condor Heroes"), hoping that Zhou Hexuan can hand over the publication of "The Rise of a Great Power" to them.
Zhou Hexuan was not in a hurry, and it took a whole week to finally reach an agreement with the Commercial Press: "The Rise of a Great Power" was published and distributed by the Commercial Press, with a royalty of 40% and a copyright period of 20 years, which was not included in overseas copyrights.
……
In the blink of an eye, in July, the students have already gone on vacation, and many teachers in Peking have gone south, including Mr. Lu Xun. Unable to stand Zhang Zuolin's cultural repression, they chose to defect to the more enlightened southern government at the end of the semester.
Yes, today's Kuomintang is still a progressive group and is well endorsed by scholars and intellectuals.
On 4 July, the Kuomintang issued a manifesto on the Northern Expedition of the National Revolutionary Army, and immediately conquered Zhuzhou, Changsha and other places. The war was urgent, but a large number of Wu Peifu's troops were dragged in the north by Feng Yuxiang, and they were really uncomfortable with the enemy on their backs.
Feng Yuxiang is still very powerful, and he single-handedly carries the Feng, Zhi, Jin, and Lu coalition armies, and fights impressively. Historically, he dragged the Beiyang Allied Army for three months, creating favorable conditions for the Southern Revolutionary Army, and only then did the Northern Expedition achieve successive victories in the early stage.
But none of this has anything to do with Zhou Hexuan, his main focus is on newspapers and foundations.
In addition to a president and three vice presidents, the China Hope Education Foundation has also established a committee and a secretariat.
The committee, which is made up of wealthy businessmen who have donated the most, well-known academics, and officials from the Ministry of Education, is responsible for the coordination, supervision, and advocacy of the foundation. Most of the members of the secretariat are Zhang Xueliang's people, especially the executive secretary, who is responsible for the daily management of the foundation, and Zhang Xueliang's English secretary, Ji Chengdong, serves full-time.
In late July, the serialization of "The Legend of the Condor Heroes" was nearing completion, and the publishing affairs were still entrusted to Lili Books. The first batch of 30 hope primary schools in the Zhili area have also been selected, but the personnel arrangements for principals and teachers are still being established.
Zhou Hexuan was finally able to take time out to go to Beiping, and he was going to visit two people, one was Ren Kecheng, the chief of education, and the other was Liang Qichao, a famous scholar.
There is a railway from Tianjin to Beiping, called Jinlu Railway, which connects Tianjin to Lugou Bridge.
Since the late Qing Dynasty, the railway has left many legends. At the beginning, Yuan Shikai often went to Beijing to see Cixi, and after finishing his work, he had to go back to Tianjin to work, and he had to walk on this railway every three or five times. In the Republic of China, the Beiyang warlords who held power, after losing power, also fled to the Tianjin Concession by this railway as a duke.
On the trains of this line, you can meet celebrities anytime and anywhere.
Zhou Hexuan met one on this trip, he took the Sun brothers in an ordinary carriage, and as soon as he placed his luggage, a young man in his 30s came over.
The person is tall, lanky, wears glasses, and looks like a reader. There were four large boxes of his belongings, and he didn't know how to carry them into the car, and he was dragging them here and there.
"Yongzhen, Yonghao, go and help!" Zhou Hexuan commanded.
"Okay!"
The Sun brothers can't do anything else, but they are good at hard work. rushed over immediately, dragged two boxes and left, and put the boxes on the cargo rack by the way.
"Thank you for your help," the young man hugged his fists, "in the lower beam, the word Shouming." ”
