Chapter 541: Cultivating the Holy Land

Wang Wei wrote in the "Inscription of the Six Ancestors Neng Zen Master": Huineng takes "all living beings as the pure land, and the mixed residence stops at the compilation; The world is the door, and the farmers and merchants are mixed with the laborers. In this quiet and far-reaching place, Huineng, who was born as a woodcutter, laid an unusual ideological foundation for his future Zen studies that were closer to life and more "civilian".

There are several large villages with the surname Lu in Huaiji Lengkeng. Since ancient times, China has had the traditional idea of "three relatives with the same surname". According to those traditional customs, the villagers surnamed Lu saw that Huineng was of the same clan and clan, and treated him as a brother, so they cared more about him on weekdays, and everyone was like brothers.

When Huineng was in his hometown of Xinzhou, he relied on going up the mountain to collect firewood to support his mother, and now he is also young and strong, and he has strength. In Shang'ai Ling, he and the villagers went up the mountain to chop firewood, and he was very proficient; Hunting in the mountains with hunters, climbing mountains and mountains is his housekeeping skill; He has a wealth of experience in farming. In addition, Hui Neng works hard, never spares his strength, but just buries his head in hard work. Therefore, everyone likes Huineng to come to help with the work.

During the day, Huineng came down to help the villagers with their work, and often taught the farming techniques he had learned to the nearby mountain people. In the evening, I was alone, with sweat all over my body, and climbed back to the turtle tsui rock on the top of the mountain. The cold winter is hot, rain or shine, and it never stops.

In the continuous mountains, many mountain people make a living by hunting, and often set nets in the places where animals are active.

In the mountains, if Huineng sees a prey caught or caught in an iron clip, he will go to untie the net and let the prey escape.

Every time it is time to eat, Huineng will put a handful of vegetables and vegetables to cook in the meat pot.

One of the mountain people asked, "Why do you eat like this?"

Huineng smiled and said, "This is my habit all along, I only eat vegetables on the side of meat, which is more beneficial to the body."

Huineng often advises the mountain people to grow more grains and vegetables, kill less prey, do more good deeds to accumulate virtue, get rid of violent and barbaric habits, and do more good deeds to accumulate yin virtue.

Therefore, the surrounding mountain people have great respect for Huineng, and have changed their violent character and many bad customs.

Huineng takes the Turtle Tsui Rock Room as his residence, travels between the mountains of Huaiji and Sihui, and works with the mountain people to farm, collect medicine, watch the scenery of the mountains and forests, listen to the deep valley and springs, appreciate the wild interest of nature, and cultivate his own mind.

On weekdays, Huineng continues to practice meditation on his own and comprehend the true meaning of Buddhist scriptures.

Relying on extraordinary perseverance and firm faith, in the deep mountains and dense forests in the area of Huaiji and Sihui, although it is a secluded mountain forest, and the wood eats grass and clothing, it is in Taoguang and self-cultivation. The establishment of his Zen thought greatly benefited from the influence of the world conditions that accommodated this area, the aura of the landscape and the cultural enlightenment. With unswerving determination, he cultivated for a full fifteen years.

Whether it is the scorching summer of the dog days or the harsh winter of the ninth count, Huineng is either looking at the leisurely and tranquil green waters and green mountains, or looking up at the vast and mysterious Xinghan Milky Way, his thoughts wander between the tangible things and the invisible heart, and he ponders the wonderful and vicarious relationship between the teachings of the five ancestors and the Western "Diamond Sutra" that "should have nothing to live and give birth to its heart".

Everything in the world is changing, and Western Buddhism should also change when it comes to the Tang Dynasty. How does the water of the Ganges merge into the rivers of Middle-earth? This is a big problem in Buddhism. The Bodhisattva Patriarch preached the Zen of Rulai, which is ever-changing, and its gist is to "enlighten the sect through teaching" and practice the characteristics of enlightenment. The method of "pointing directly to the hearts of the people, seeing the nature to become a Buddha, not setting up words, and not passing on outside the teaching" passed down by the ancestors emphasizes that it directly points to the source of the heart, should be connected with things, and the tacit understanding at the moment is that the heart is a Buddha, which should be the source of the Dharma.

After fifteen years of seclusion and enlightenment in the pure land of Huaiji and Sihui Mountains and Forests, Hui Neng began to conceive the "Altar Sutra" that embodies sinicization and popularization, and is determined to establish the "Southern Sect" of Zen Buddhism. "All the wonderful mind", so that Hui Neng's Buddhist Zen machine sublimated to a new height, he cultivated the study of the mind, on the basis of the great good Buddhism, virtually integrated the Confucianism and Taoism of traditional Chinese culture, realized the complete transformation of Tianzhu Zen in China, and formed a "suitable for China's national conditions" Zen ideological system. This laid a solid ideological foundation for him to open the Dharma in Cao Xi in the future and promote the Chinese Buddhism - Cao Xi Chan.

Later, Huaiji County ordered Jiang Hang to climb the six ancestral rocks, and wrote poems with emotion, including "The cliff and cliff knock on the palace, mercy saves the world and releases Confucianism, how to cultivate the truth for ten years, and the dust is red." This poem is engraved on the rock wall of the six ancestors, 140 centimeters long, and it is still clearly visible.

The ancients linked the matter of Huineng drinking water in Nanxi in Huaicheng with the matter of drinking Cao Xi water with wisdom medicine, saying: "No matter how high Nanxi and Cao Xi are, the door of epiphany can be taken closely." ”

One of the sixteen scenic spots of ancient Huaiyang has a scene of "Nanxi Gudu". The Shangai Ridge is called the "Six Ancestral Ridges" by the descendants, and the Guizui Rock on the ridge is called the "Six Ancestral Rocks" by the descendants.

Later, the people of Lengkeng learned that it was the sixth ancestor of Zen Buddhism who had taken refuge on the Turtle Tsui Rock, and they were deeply honored to build a temple in the east of the furnace village, that is, where Huineng often helped the villagers with farm work, Shuanglu Temple.

People built a Ceres Temple on the hill where the red and yellow halos flashed when Huineng traveled west, and the nearby village was named "Buddha Lantern Village".

The local villagers, every year and festival, every family hangs up the "marquee" to commemorate the Zen forest master. The lanterns, decorating the mountain villa at night, are spectacular and have become a beautiful local landscape. It attracted many visits from literati and scholars, and even the prefectural magistrates made a special trip to see it. There is a county order after watching the night scene of the lanterns, after the mood surged, splashed ink, and wrote a famous seven-word poem "Evening Tour of the Buddha Lantern":

Bamboo outside the Zen Guan, the color boundary is empty, and the green lotus sits down with a red light.

In the sky and moonlight as long as water, illuminating the charming dark house.

The folk custom of hanging Buddha lamps in every house has spread around Huaicheng...... A large number of historical relics are all historical witnesses to the six ancestors of Huineng "stop at every time".

Under the influence of the thought of the six ancestors Huineng, the earth is cherished, and the Zen style is quite prosperous.

After Hui Neng was extinguished, his disciples came from Guoen Temple to the foot of Fulu Mountain in Sihui Dengzhan Ling, where the Six Ancestors Hui Neng had lived for a long time, and built the Six Ancestors Temple, which is rumored to be extremely prosperous in the past. After thousands of years of wind and rain, the old site still exists with stone pillars and tile roofs.

Fulu Mountain is in Shanglinpu Qingtang Taotang Longtou Luohu four shop boundary, more than 1,000 zhang high, there is a stone pond on it. The stone along the pond is struck against it, and its sound is like a drum...... Lu Huineng, the sixth ancestor of the past, often took refuge here. Therefore, it is under the name of Fulu Mountain. There are six ancestral hermitages. "Hui Neng" is to take refuge in the four clubs, chase the hunter team, 15 years, so that Fulu Mountain Lufeng Temple, the six ancestral nunnery, all can be ruins.

The six ancestors of the temple in the dragon head shop under the Lu Mountain, the six ancestors Hui Neng live in seclusion here, the descendants build a nunnery to worship it, and the villagers will change the name of the village in front of the temple to "the village in front of the temple".

The "Liuzu Temple" built in Sihui Zhenshan is large-scale, hugs around the mountain, is like sitting on a lotus, and the surrounding forests are verdant. The two couplets of the majestic mountain gate are:

The ancestral ruins of the mountain are thousands of years of Zen meaning

Menna is a good believer in the heart of the protector of the Dharma

Opening the door should be a clear mind

To enter Bodhi, you need to be empty
