Chapter Seventy-Five: Homecoming
In the midst of the mist, the English Channel is surging and the dark clouds in the sky are also rolling, indicating that a heavy rain is coming.
In this uncalm sea, a ship was sailing from England to the mainland, and the ship rode the wind and waves, cutting the sea, leaving a white trail.
The ship was large, and the full sails cast a huge shadow on the gray-black sea, but the deck was sparsely populated, and there were few figures in sight, except for the Charles, who stood quietly at the front of the deck.
Charles looked at the endless sea and the silhouette of the continent in front of him, listening to the endless sound of the waves. Everything seems to be hidden in the shadows, and the whole world shrinks into a body of water as far as the eye can see.
The sea breeze was blowing on his face, but perhaps because of the impending heavy rain, the air was a little dull, giving people a feeling of extreme oppression.
It was not surprising that the ship was unexpectedly silent, and that no one disturbed his thoughts, for the Trevills had already secured the ship, and the entire passenger ship was left with them and their retinue except for the crewβnot a deliberate attempt to put on a show, but mainly for the sake of time and safety.
They had already sailed out of London, and in a few hours, they would be back in the port of Calais and back in France.
However, this is not the end of all problems, for him it is the beginning of all problems, the road ahead of him is too long, every step must be taken with hard work and courage, and then persevere.
He just watched the sea quietly, even if he heard the soft footsteps coming from the deck behind him.
However, the footsteps did not stop. Instead, it kept approaching until the end. His waist was wrapped around his hands, and his back sank slightly. Apparently a face was buried.
There is only one person who dares to do this......
"How is Charlotte doing now?" Charles retracted his thoughts.
"It's okay, I've had a little drink now, and I'm probably going to sleep soon." The person behind replied nonchalantly.
Perhaps because she was pregnant, Charlotte, who had never been seasick, vomited quickly after getting on the boat this time, and Charles immediately ordered someone to take care of her, and finally let her calm down, but she was still very unwell. Fortunately, the journey from England to France was not far away, otherwise he would not have known how to solve this trouble.
"You should keep looking after her for a while......"
She has no shortage of people who can take care of her...... "Fran doesn't hide her displeasure with Charlotte." I'm afraid she'll be even more uncomfortable next to her, so why bother? β
Charles couldn't help but smile wryly.
He wanted to persuade him, but he didn't feel much meaning, so he had to give up.
"Although I know that it is difficult for your relationship to get along, at least she is your sister-in-law, and you should show the necessary respect. Not to mention...... The two old men have already entrusted her with the care of the family, even if it is only for yourself, you should respect her, right? β
"She didn't rely on you to get this."
Behind Charles's reach, Fran pursed his lips rather disdainfully. Muttered quietly.
Then, in order to take care of her brother's emotions, she still responded.
"Of course, I know. I will respect her, as much as I want. As long as she doesn't mess with me, I won't tear down her stage. β
There is some sincerity in this commitment. Only the old man knows.
"It would be nice to be able to do that." Charles raised his head slightly, looking at the overcast sky.
In the midst of the hunting sea breeze. The younger sister hugged her brother tightly from behind, her blonde hair flowing behind her. It looks like a picture.
"By the way, why did you ask Charlotte to come over and say that you were going to punish me, but it scared me to death!" After enjoying it for a long time, Fran asked with some disgust. "Would you just tell me about it yourself?"
"That's what I'm for, you've really gone too far!" At the mention of this, Charles's tone couldn't help but get worse, and he turned to look at his sister head-on, "I just scared you, you should feel lucky!" β
His gaze was a little stern, and Fran couldn't help but shrink her neck, but her hand still wrapped around him tightly.
"That's right, I know he's a complete bastard, he doesn't have any kindness to us, it's not worth feeling sorry for at all, and he doesn't deserve our respect......" Seeing his sister wince, Charles's tone slowed down a little, but he was still very stern, "But it doesn't matter, the most important thing is your disrespectful and self-righteous attitude!" Look, what have you done? For the sake of his own wishes, he had to swing an axe at his father and force him to write some paperwork! Do you dare to do this kind of thing now, will you dare to pull out your gun against Charlotte and me in the future?! β
"Of course I won't." Fran blinked, trying not to let the other party see her sadness, "You obviously know why I did this......"
Seeing her like this, Charles couldn't help but soften his heart again, and he found that no matter what, he couldn't harden his heart to her.
When every parent sees their child in trouble, no matter how big the disaster is, no matter how angry they are at first, they can't help but forgive them in the end. His feelings for Fran are almost full of this doting.
"Well, since this matter has been dealt with and you have been punished, then let's let it be over, but you are not allowed to do this kind of thing in the future." He changed the subject, "Besides, you're not entirely wrong, that kind of person we really shouldn't have anything to do with him anymore - you met him in England, and you did the right thing to do regardless of it." β
"I'm guessing you'd say the same thing." Fran nodded.
"If he dies at the hands of Agnes, I won't feel any regret." Charles replied indifferently, "In my opinion, that's what he deserves." Okay, we don't need to mention him, I heard Charlotte say that you have agreed to my assignment? β
"Yes, sir, I will be glad to assist you! Get involved in your business β that's what I've always asked you to ask for! You don't have to worry about me, I don't care how many sins I commit for you. Fran hugged him tightly and expressed her heart in this way, "I don't want any delays, I can start doing it from the moment I set foot in France, and soon I will have Mary write you a report on everything you need, you can give me the necessary support according to the requirements listed above, and I will be able to do the rest by myself!" β
Ever since she got the task assigned by her brother, she had already been eager to try, she really didn't worry about committing many crimes, in order to get everything she wanted, what crime she didn't dare to commit? She was only worried that she had wasted such a good opportunity because of her lack of experience, which would cast a shadow on her brother's trust in her.
"It's good that you have that kind of drive." Charles understood what she was thinking, so he reached out and wiped her hair, "Don't be afraid, since I have assigned you, I am not afraid that you will make mistakes, after so many disasters, what can I not forgive you?" β
Fran sensed the sarcasm in her brother's tone, and buried her head in his arms again. "I'm sorry ......"
"What's the point of saying sorry now?" Charles shook his head, "If you're really sorry, then do your own thing, and don't make me crazy every time." β
Mary is right, my brother just eats soft and not hard. Fran thought to herself.
No matter how angry Charles was at that time, as long as he behaved well again, he would forgive himself after all.
At least now, the brother and sister have put aside their opposition and estrangement, isn't this the day she is waiting for?
After a heart-wrenching struggle, she finally emerged from her mere idol status and was treated by her brother as an assistant and pawn to use - perhaps in a way demeaning but in her opinion, it was a long-cherished wish.
"What's wrong with you?" Feeling a little stiff, Charles asked in a low voice.
"Nothing, sir, I'm just so happy!" There was a cry in Fran's tone, "I beg you, can you continue to let me hold like this for a little longer?" β
"What a kid." Charles couldn't help but laugh.
However, he did not refuse her request.
The sea breeze blew stronger and stronger, but the two of them didn't notice it, and just hugged each other.
β¦β¦β¦β¦β¦β¦β¦β¦
It was raining, and the fine raindrops were beating against the pier of Calais Port, and the sky and the earth were gray, as if a curtain had been covered.
At the pier, a group of soldiers divided into two columns, quietly watching the passenger ship moored on the pier.
As time passed, a group of people stepped out of the boat, led by a couple, who held hands and dressed very delicately and luxuriously. The husband held an umbrella in his other hand and looked at his wife with concern.
The rain grew heavier and heavier, and kept beating on each soldier's uniform, but the two rows of men still stood as if they had not been affected in any way.
"Stand upright!" As they passed, all the soldiers stood at the same time at the shouts of the officers, and then saluted with their guns, while Charles raised his hand, waved it lightly in reply, and then walked into the carriage with his wife with a blank face.
At the moment when he and Charlotte were seated, the carriage had already been prepared and immediately began to move.
Compared with a few years ago, he already has an enviable pomp, and where he passes, most people can only bow their heads to salute.
Anyway, this feeling of being a big guy is really good.
However, it is not enough, this is not enough, to move on......
He told himself silently. (To be continued......)
