Chapter 1 Farewell without saying goodbye

A northern town decorated with ice and snow carvings ushered in its short thaw period and gradually became lively.

The name of the town is Gus, and according to the old people in the town, it is named after the first mayor. Further north is into the Thorsen region, with its rugged cliffs and fiery dwarven dungeons. The town is not large, crisscrossed by more than a dozen streets.

Hall Street is undoubtedly the most famous street in town, connecting the only road to the big city of Obojar to the south, and more importantly, the House of the Green Violin, the town's only tavern, is located on Hall Street.

At noon, the streets of Hall are bustling, and occasionally stout dwarves can be seen walking noisily towards the house of the green violin. A two-story wooden house on the west side of the street, the reflection of the sun on the ice and snow makes the wooden house look less old. Next to the iron mailbox near the street hangs a small wooden sign: Albert House. A few wet newspapers were scattered on the lawn in front of the door.

At the small round table in the center of the room on the first floor, a thin young man of seventeen or eighteen years old sat with his elbows propped up on the edge of the table. He put his hands on his forehead, his fingers sinking into his short black hair, and his handsome face was tightly knit. The sun shining on his body didn't seem to make him feel a little happy.

"Vane!" a tall boy of the same age pushed open the half-hidden door, "why didn't you come back to play with me, I heard that there is a very interesting bard from the house of the violin, let's go and see it together!" The young man who spoke, with bright blonde hair and an angular face with some excitement, strode into the room.

"Go yourself, Felder. Vane whispered back.

"What's wrong? Vane. What about Uncle Albert?"

"Uncle left a few days ago, and it seems that he left in a hurry, and the satchel and staff containing the magic herbs are all at home. I just graduated from the Academy of Magic today and came back to see only this. Vane pointed to an old map on the round table, his eyes red.

"Vane, don't worry, uncle may be in a hurry to go out. Felder picked up the map and looked at it carefully. "You see there's a very obvious mark, the place circled in red ink, it's called ......"

Felder's eyes widened suddenly, and he looked at Vane, "Won't it be here?"

"Yes, it's Floating City. Uncle may have gone there, and maybe he could find some clues there. Vane's eyes were a little more sparkling.

The Floating City is a magical city suspended in the air, located above the strait between the continents of Lafred and Akanster. Since the Age of Magic, it has been the most legendary place in the continent of Lafrey, some people say that it is inhabited by gods so that it can be suspended in the air, and some people say that in fact, the floating city does not exist, it is just a mirage.

Vane was an apprentice magician, having graduated from the Academy of Magic in Obohar, and naturally knew that the Floating City was the headquarters of the Magic Guild, not the residence of some god.

"You're leaving the Beseca Kingdom?" Felder was a little surprised.

"Maybe. My parents didn't know where to go when I was very young, and I stayed at my uncle's house, and he took care of me like a father and taught me magic, and went to the magic academy to spend all his savings. To be honest, I had a bad feeling this time, after all, my uncle has rarely left Gus Town in recent years, let alone say goodbye. Vane sighed.

"Uncle Albert is a nice guy, he always teaches me some interesting little magic, and he also helps everyone teach the hateful thieves and villains. But I don't think you need to worry too much, uncle's magic is very clever!"

"That's what you're saying. The corners of Vane's mouth went up.

"Well, let's go to the Green Violin House and see if we can get some useful news, hehe, after all, I'm more familiar with it than you. Felder winked at Vaane.

Are you familiar with the maid there, Vane thought speechlessly.

Vane strapped his uncle's satchel and folded the map into the mezzanine. There are also some magic herbs in the bag, such as black pearls, fern roots, spider silk, etc., which are some common magic herbs. There is also a magic scroll made of parchment. Vane thought for a moment, and put the book on the table, "Experiences in the Wizarding World", into his satchel, maybe he would use it later.

Vane held the staff in his hand, the staff was very short, only more than half a meter long, and some words were carved on the curved staff, which was not an ordinary carving, but an inscription carved on the object with intricate magic. The tip of the staff is inlaid with an ocean-blue gemstone the size of a pigeon's egg.

Uncle hadn't told him the name of the staff, and maybe it didn't have a name. "You'll probably have to follow me for a while," thought Vane, "why don't I give you a name, the Sapphire Staff." Wayne wanted to laugh a little at the thought of it, but it was the best name he could come up with.

Before closing the door, Vane took another deep look at the familiar wooden house, and he had a feeling that he might not be able to return to the place where he had lived for more than ten years for a long time. Vane took a deep breath and locked the door, and walked south along the gravel road with Felder.

Vane rarely went to the tavern, except for a few times when Felder tricked him into going, and each time, of course, on the pretext that all sorts of strange or interesting people had come to the tavern. A teenager's curiosity is always greater than that of a cat.

"Jingle bell", with the crisp sound of bells, Felder had already pushed open the rough, heavy creaking wooden door, and immediately the noise was amplified several times over from the tavern.

The Violin House has three floors, one for the tavern and the upper two for lodging. Felder led Wayne to the back of the room, where he found a small table and sat down.

Felder may have deliberately pretended to be a "regular customer" and snapped his fingers at the maid not far away. The maid walked towards them, of course, before Felder snapped his fingers.

"Ah, it's Felder, what would you like to drink today?" the young maid, dressed in a pale blue dress, looked at them with a smile like the July sun in Gus Town.

"Lena, you know, this is Wayne, my best friend, who also lives on Hall Street. Felder smiled charmingly.

Vane held the staff in his right hand, his face was a little red, and he didn't dare to look at Liana directly.

"Actually, we're here to inquire about something about the floating island. Felder added.

"In that case, why don't you two have a drink first, the House of the Violin has the best wine in town. ”

"I want a Solsen beer. Wayne, what do you drink?"

"I don't use it, thanks, I don't drink. Vane seemed to relax a little, glancing at Lena and saying.

"Would you like a glass of strange juice?" said Liana with a smile.

"Good. Vane nodded. Qi Xiang fruit is a common fruit in the mainland, and it must not be too expensive.

"Phew, Lena is so beautiful, she may be the most beautiful woman in town. Felder looked at the distant back with relief.

"I remember the last time you said that, it wasn't her. ”

"Come, drink," Felder diverted the subject, "it's my first time drinking Sorson's beer, and I don't know if it's as good as their spirits." ”

"Bang!" a muffled sound came from the corner of the tavern, and the two of them turned their heads together.
