Chapter 20: The Northern Outpost
Whew!" Vane sat against the wall, bean-sized drops of sweat dripping down Vane's pale face.
"Finally ......" Vane let out a long sigh as he placed the bloody half-cut bone in his hand beside him. There are nineteen in total. Nineteen broken bones or fragments of various sizes were arranged in a neat row.
The ice was stained red with blood. Vane didn't know how many times he had fainted, and it wasn't until he finally had no strength to perform the healing spell that he removed the nineteen broken bone fragments.
The night is getting darker.
Vane had lost too much blood at this time, and his mental strength was seriously overdrawn, so he only felt that his eyes were black, his head was buzzing, and his consciousness was gradually blurred.
"Bang. Something fell next to Vane, scaring him so much that his sleepiness was mostly gone.
"Bambu Bambu. Soon the owl Bambo also landed next to Vane.
"Bambu, where are you going, what is this......" Vane said as he touched the black mass, his body freezing after half a second. He felt a piece of smooth fur, still with a hint of warmth.
Vane's mind instantly remembered what he had just seen. This one seems to be much larger, though.
β...... Are you sure I'm going to eat this?" Vane said with a frown as he quickly removed his hand from the thing, but as if to persuade himself.
It was a black rat about the size of a rabbit, and blood was still bubbling from it.
Just now he found a dead mouse next to him, and Wayne thought it was Bambu's food, but he didn't expect Bambu to get himself a bigger one in the blink of an eye.
Ten minutes later.
"It's so delicious!" said Vane as he gulped down the burnt rat that had been roasted, drooling without an image. The flame at the top of the Song of the Red Flame on the side had not yet been extinguished, and the staff flickered rapidly alternately in light and dark, and it seemed that it was also a rat with a greedy eye.
Vane looked at the Song of the Red Flame as he ate, his expression complicated. He had no idea what was going on with this strange staff, which seemed to have an independent consciousness and was able to communicate with his own soul. A lot of times it can feel its own thoughts, and it can feel its own threads.
Vane looked up at the huge shadow not far away, which looked like the remains of a bone dragon, but he didn't remember what was going on.
Vane only remembered that he had been pinned to the wall with a bone spear by the Witch King, and then fainted. Later, he wakes up to find a battlefield full of bones and a corpse witch king that has been reduced to countless pieces. Just like when he got the Song of Red Flame in the Glacier God before, he didn't lose his memory, he should have been dominated by the mysterious staff during that time.
The thrill of killing in the forest sends the shudder down Vane's side, but similarly, the Song of the Red Flame has saved her life many times.
"Hey, what kind of staff are you......" Vane muttered as he looked at the Song of the Red Flame. The song of the Red Flame flickered rhythmically, as if in response to Vane.
It didn't take long for the roasted rat to be left with only its head and tail.
Filled with his stomach, Vane stood up with his staff and left the ruins of the village in full painβit was too cold.
Under the night sky, a chubby owl stood on the shoulder of a man, who looked up at the western shadow of the mountain and walked slowly forward with his staff.
......
At this time, it was morning on the distant continent of Akanster.
If you stand in a suitable outer space orbit on the planet Rolaye, you can see that the continent of Akanster is shaped like a sweet potato. It is roughly divided into three parts: the largest, grayish-white in the north, which is the northern ice field, which is also the largest ice field in Rolaier. The south is the second, yellowish-brown, and is the largest desert in the whole of Rolaie. The smallest part of the dark green in the middle is the Central Forest, which is more commonly referred to as the Cursed Forest.
Although the northern ice sheet is called the Ice Sheet, in fact, the landscape here has changed a lot in the more than 300 years since the Battle of the Great, and although it is still cold, the ice layer on some of the land has disappeared. To the south, some plants are already growing.
In a wasteland in the northern ice field, where the ice and snow have melted, two men are walking side by side. They were wrapped in thick fur coats, and they carried a few palm-sized fish in their hands that were red from the cold.
"I say, Zack, we're probably the worst magicians we look like now!" said the tall middle-aged man, with a teasing tone in his tone. After saying that, he rubbed his free hand and rubbed the beard that was frozen together above his lips.
The young man named Zack looked to be no more than thirty years old, and his short curly brown hair was piled up unkemptly on his head. He is a mid-level mage from the Atagar kingdom who was sent by the Mages Guild to the northern outpost of the continent of Akanst a year ago and became a "glorious" expatriate mage.
"Hmm...... The same cannot be said either. I heard that the seniors before us couldn't even eat fish. Zach said as he picked up the small fish in his hand and shook it, swallowing his saliva unconsciously.
β......β
A short time later, a wooden house appeared in the distance.
"Uncle Marshall, what do you think that's that?" said the sharp-eyed Zach as he pointed ahead.
Marshall slowed down. He stared in the direction Zach was pointing, quickly strapped the fish to the sides of his trousers, and pulled out a thumb-thick staff from the back and held it in his hand.
"Go over and see. With that, Marshall walked briskly forward.
The wooden house in front of you, which looks like an old age, is the northern outpost camp of the Wizards' Guild. The hut is surrounded by arm-thick and sharpened logs, which are stacked on top of each other to form a small camp. But the expansive camp was now a little crowded: a huge propeller flying machine more than ten meters long had stopped, its polished, streamlined metal casing reflecting the glare of the sunlight like a finely carved work of art.
"Looks like there's a big guy coming......" Marshall looked at the aircraft and put away his staff.
"The Wizards' Guild logo ......," Zach said in surprise as he looked at the triangular pattern on the plane. He stepped forward and stroked the smooth metal machine with his hand, and exclaimed: "I have never seen such a large and delicate flying machine, it is really shocking......
"You'd better take your hands away, you can't afford to break it. A man's voice came coldly.
Zach was startled and hurriedly withdrew his hand. He looked up and saw two people standing in front of the cabin. No, it's three people, and one person stands behind two people, looking inconspicuous.
"Just the two of you at the outpost?" said the young man with gold-rimmed glasses standing at the front. His chin was slightly raised, and the reflection of the glass made it impossible for Zach to see his eyes, presumably arrogant.
No matter how stupid Zach is, he can guess that this kind of flying machine is not something that ordinary magicians can ride. The young man on the other side, who is about the same age as himself, does have arrogant capital. Thinking of this, Zach felt inferior for no reason.
"There are no more than five of these aircraft in the entire Floating City, so I'm not alarmist. The young man in the golden-wired glasses did not wait for them to reply, and continued.
Seeing that the other party didn't react much, he seemed to feel a little bored, and said, "By the way, we are high-level magicians from Floating City. He deliberately accentuated the word senior.
"This is my partner. Then he lazily pointed to the magician next to him. "We are here for a very important mission that requires your full cooperation. β
"Excuse me, what is the mission?" said Marshall.
"Scout the Cursed Forest. β
"What?!" Zach and Marshall looked at each other and shouted in unison.
