Chapter 17 Introducing Zen Culture into Businesses
As soon as Liang Shirong's words were finished, the audience burst into thunderous applause. After the applause, I saw a man sitting in the front row stand up, raised his right hand, respectfully faced the stage, and said: "Dear chairman, just now we were fortunate to listen to the story you told, which made us benefit a lot, and our brains were suddenly enlightened, the story is really wonderful!" Today we have such a rare opportunity, it can be said that the opportunity is hard to find, therefore, I would like to respectfully ask the respected chairman, combined with the actual situation of the enterprise, how to introduce Zen culture into the enterprise, to provide cultural support for the steady and scientific development of the enterprise. Do you think it's good? ”
"Good! Good! The scene was encouraged by the man, and a cheer resounded throughout the venue.
Liang Shirong saw that the atmosphere at the scene was so warm, and thought to himself, it seems that today is a difficult day, and he has to talk about it again.
Liang Shirong picked up the cup of tea placed on the right side in front, took a few sips, and then took over the topic of the employee just now, and began to quote scriptures and discuss the role of Zen culture in introducing enterprises.
"Just now, the employee asked a very good question, introducing Zen culture into the enterprise, which is a very realistic and important research topic. Based on this thinking, I am here today to try to put forward some simple views on how to introduce Zen culture into enterprises and promote the steady, scientific and healthy development of enterprises. If there is anything wrong, please correct it. After the opening remarks, Liang Shirong ran to the theme. Below, I would like to expand on it in three parts:
1. Zen culture is the essence of oriental culture
Since the 2008GD Six Ancestors Cultural Festival was successfully held in Xinxing, the concept of "Zen culture" has been used more and more frequently, and everything that is related to Buddhism or Zen has been included in the category of "Zen culture". Such as Zen and tea ceremony, Zen and poetry, Zen and music, and even Zen and philosophy, Zen and psychology, Zen and management, Zen and national spirit, and so on. It should be said that these interdisciplinary fringe studies are helpful for people to understand the spirit of Zen. However, strictly speaking, these studies are only peripheral and have not yet penetrated into the core of Zen culture. In this regard, it is necessary for us to first make a simple and clear revelation of the spiritual essence of "culture" and "Zen culture".
(1) What is culture? The word "culture" has a unique meaning in traditional Chinese philosophy. "Wen" originally referred to the color and pattern of the fur of birds and animals, and was later extended to words, words, ritual systems, laws and regulations, etc.; "Transformation" mainly refers to "education". In short, the meaning of "culture" can be summarized as the moralization and beautification of individuals, societies and the environment, as well as related creative activities and spiritual products.
(2) What is Zen culture? Zen culture is to realize the moralization and beautification of individuals, society and environment with the help of Zen concept, Zen wisdom and Zen practice methods. Here, Zen is the body, and culture is the harmony. The morality and beautification of the individual is called the text; The moralization and beautification of the social crowd is called the transformation. To educate is to educate.
Virtue and beautification, in modern language, is to optimize their own quality. To optimize one's own quality is to purify one's soul, beautify one's personality, optimize one's wisdom, and strengthen one's strength. Optimizing one's own quality is what the ancients called self-cultivation, family harmony, governing the country, and leveling the world. Optimizing one's own quality is self-consciousness, which is called an enlightened life.
Zen culture is the essence of oriental culture. Zen culture is not only used to improve self-cultivation, purify the soul, and enlighten wisdom, but also can satisfactorily answer the fundamental questions of human civilization, contains the wisdom of saving the crisis of civilization, and involves the starting point and destination of the entire human civilization.
"Bodhi has no tree, the mirror is not a platform, there is nothing originally, where is the dust." This famous verse was written by Huineng in the Tang Dynasty, which embodied his idea of enlightenment and enlightenment, formed a Zen ideological system with Chinese characteristics, established the mainstream position of Zen Buddhism in the Buddhist world, and had a profound impact on Chinese cultural thought after the Tang and Song dynasties, and became synonymous with Chinese Buddhism.
Huineng's reformed Zen Buddhism is infiltrated with the spirit of traditional Chinese culture, and its views of "clear mind and insight" and "Tao from the heart" affirm the main body of life practice; Bring the divine Buddha-nature back to people's real minds, and rely on self-confidence and self-awareness to achieve self-liberation; The seemingly profound Zen principles are contained in daily life, so that Buddhism, which originally advocated negative "birth", began to face life and has the color of "entering the WTO"; The pursuit of nature, informal, detachment and open-mindedness: "There are flowers in spring, there are moons in autumn, cool breeze in summer, snow in winter, if there is nothing to worry about, it is a good season in the world." ”
Viewed from a cultural perspective, Zen Buddhism is both a religion and an attitude and wisdom of life; It is both a belief and a unique way of thinking. It is like a source of living water, through the participation and promotion of literati in the past generations, it once brought vitality and vitality to Chinese culture, and had a profound impact on Chinese philosophy, ethics, poetry, etc. For example, Wang Wei's "Lu Chai": "I don't see people in the empty mountains, but I hear people's voices." Return to the deep forest, re-shine on the moss", soaked with a strong spiritual Zen. The artistic conception of Zen Buddhism, which is true in temperament and detached from the world, gives traditional poetry more charm and aesthetic characteristics of life understanding; More importantly, Zen Buddhism basically integrates the ideological system of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism, and integrates it into the deep layers of Chinese culture, bringing Chinese culture into a new artistic conception that focuses on nature, harmony, spirituality and vividness. There was Zen Buddhism in the Tang Dynasty, and Huineng did make great contributions.
Second, the usefulness of Zen culture to enterprises
1. Helping the people through the world is a positive spirit contained in Zen culture. As one of the social organizations, the enterprise should absorb the spirit of helping the people through the world and take a strong sense of social mission as the ultimate goal pursued by the enterprise. Although the organizational purpose of an enterprise is to make a profit, it does not mean that the sole purpose and criterion of the enterprise is to make a profit. First, enterprises can bring mental and physical relief to others through the products they use to make profits, and they must do something and not do something for the way the enterprise operates and the products it operates. Mr. Li Ka-shing of Hong Kong once rejected the proposal of the board of directors to open a casino. Only if the products operated by the enterprise are altruistic will it have a broader market prospect, and will bring a more stable business style to the enterprise in any period and any region, so that the enterprise can obtain more long-term profits. Second, enterprises help employees and society to relieve pain and seek happiness through profits. After receiving the help of the enterprise, the employees and the society will naturally believe in some ideas and concepts advocated by the enterprise itself. After the enterprise has established the spirit of helping the people through the world, through a certain way, the employees and the society will know and recognize these spirits, which will bring great help to the operation of the enterprise itself. Whether it is Kingdee's national righteousness of "developing the software industry and revitalizing the Chinese nation", or the warm care of "technology makes people easier", it will stimulate the sense of mission of the employees, strengthen the initiative and enthusiasm of the employees at work, and at the same time make the society give more trust to the enterprise itself, which is conducive to the development of the enterprise itself.
2. The equality of all beings is the basic spirit of Zen culture. For enterprises, the equality of all beings should be regarded as one of its basic spirits, and employees within the enterprise should be advocated to treat each other equally. Leaders at all levels of the enterprise are ordinary members of the team at all levels with different division of labor and different tasks, and the leader does not lead the team to implement the work goals he decides and defines, but works with the rest of the team to achieve the work goals recognized by everyone. Every employee has the right and obligation to define the goals of his team, and he or she has the right to reject the goals of his team. In addition to treating each other equally, enterprises should respect the development rights of each employee in the enterprise, and highlight the concept that every employee, regardless of seniority and ability, as long as they continue to work hard, may become a leader. Every leader is a brother and friend who helps employees succeed, and every employee wants to become a leader to help more employees succeed, and there is no reason why such a company should not grow. Haier put forward the famous "racecourse" strategy, which makes every employee of Haier have a sense of fairness and achievement, and also makes many talents of Haier stand out, and they have made great contributions to Haier's development.
3. Abandoning evil and following good is the characteristic of Zen culture. For enterprises, there are several meanings of abandoning evil and following good: First, there is no good or bad nature of employees. There is no good or evil in nature, when he does good, he does good, and when he does evil, he does evil. Therefore, business leaders should fully consider the foundation of employees' goodness and guide employees to take the initiative to abandon evil. Second, good and evil can be transformed. For employees who have violated corporate regulations, leaders should not take simple dismissal or punishment, but should try to help educate them. Employees who have brought benefits and made contributions to the enterprise should not be blindly trusted, and their management and education should not be relaxed. Third, enterprises should infiltrate the moral and institutional system of praise, reward and punishment. Let "karma" have a new content in the enterprise and be elevated to a new level.
Third, whether the enterprise can continue to develop steadily, is inseparable from the foundation of Zen culture
Whether an enterprise can survive steadily and healthily in the tide of competition is a problem that every enterprise must consider at present. The objective law of the development of things tells us that there is an opportunity when there exists, and survival is the prerequisite for all strategic goals. In people's understanding of things, there are two aspects of mutual penetration, mutual constraint and mutual implication in the spiritual cognition of matter, that is, the physical cognition - the true connotation and the value cognition - the judgment of goodness. Experiencing the sense of reality and morality that Buddhism has developed in practice is actually an aesthetic process. We pursue the combination of beauty and truth, and require the harmony of beauty and goodness, so as to achieve the unity of truth, goodness and beauty. Truth, goodness and beauty are the crystallization of traditional Chinese culture and the highest state of modern management thought. The harmonious, sustainable and steady development of the enterprise is inseparable from the foundation of the Kaizen culture with profound heritage.
1. Modern enterprises call for the introduction of Zen culture. If Chinese enterprise management wants to succeed, it is necessary to integrate management theory with practical problems of enterprises, integrate modern scientific management with Zen culture (traditional Chinese culture), and establish a "modern enterprise management model", only in this way will our enterprise management have lasting vitality. Over the years of reform and opening up, a group of Chinese entrepreneurs with modern enterprise management ideas have been exploring the establishment of an enterprise management model with Chinese elements. There are many successful examples. However, many Chinese enterprises have failed to establish enterprise management that is commensurate with the scale of development, so they are congenitally deficient and at a loss.
From the following examples, we can draw some useful insights. Since RB emerged from the ashes of World War II and became the world's largest economic power in just 20 years, the Americans, who claim to be the "governing kingdom", were shocked. Truke, an American management guru, went to RB to discuss and found that the characteristic of RB management is that it attaches importance to management philosophy. Of course, the RB people did not reject American management, half of them persistently grasped the tools and techniques of scientific management, but they never became Westernized; Half of it is to fully absorb the essence of Chinese Zen culture, emphasize the truth, goodness and beauty of humanistic management, and form a management philosophy. The core of people-oriented management is China's Confucianism and Buddhism. RB can be described as the best example of the combination of East and West. Therefore, we cannot do without our own foundation, which is the essence of traditional Zen culture, the cultivation of personality, being a person first, and then doing things. We can't expect a person who has learned scientific management without mind, selfishness, trustlessness, impetuous and short-sighted to lead an enterprise to achieve a career.
We should be eclectic, square inside and outside, Chinese and Western, and complement each other. As the saying goes, the wonder of management lies in one mind.
2. Zen culture is the foundation for building a harmonious enterprise. Truth, goodness and beauty are one of the important contents of Zen culture, and the three main value categories formed in the practice of human beings to transform the objective world are closely related to each other, but also strictly different. It is the objective reality content of things, and everything that conforms to the laws of the objective world and its essence is true; Goodness is the ultimate goal of people's practice, and everything that conforms to people's purpose is goodness; Beauty is a social phenomenon in which people evaluate things.
Enterprises, as business organizations with economic interests as the main body, how to use the cultural management strategy of truth, goodness and beauty in the process of achieving their economic goals, so as to achieve harmony between enterprises and enterprises, enterprises and society. First of all, the organizational leader is the core founder of the enterprise, and his actions and thoughts will directly have a crucial impact on the management of the enterprise. Therefore, leaders need not only courage and power, but also need to be open-minded and tolerant, need to be rigid and soft, and the team members of their organization need to complement each other's personalities, abilities, knowledge, thinking and decision-making, charging into formation, and silently cultivating the type, so that it is an excellent team.
Harmony - the magic weapon of the enterprise
Modern international academic recognition that the ancient sage who advocated harmony the most was Confucius. Ancient sages were good at connecting different things for research and application, focusing on the harmony between people, between people, between groups, and even between people.
The key to making money through harmony is the word "and". It must be emphasized that the importance of harmony is by no means merely manifested in the ability to generate wealth, but permeates all aspects of our social life. Throughout the past and present, all those who have made achievements in their careers are open-minded, magnificent, and hold the attitude of "harmony is precious"; And those who measure small measure are not only not good for others, but also good for themselves.
Now many enterprises are saying that they want to establish their own corporate culture, but in the face of some enterprises, especially private enterprises, there are non-standard management models, and many things such as thinking and methods are full of their vision and thinking. Maybe they really need to use "Zen" to calm themselves down and think about how to survive and develop better in this situation.
RB's entrepreneurial spirit has been deeply influenced by the Zen culture since the Tang and Song dynasties in China, coupled with Western scientific thinking and management, which has led to RB's achievements today.
The spirit of Chinese Zen culture is to focus on inner enrichment and external use, that is, the so-called combination of theory and practice. Whether the outside can be used and how big it is depends on whether the inside is full and what the size of the fullness is.
Finally, Liang Shirong concluded: Zen culture in a certain era, a certain stage, pay more attention to the external use, that is, the so-called wishes.
In the end, this kind of aspiration must be implemented in our nation-state and society, not just in individuals. The achievements of all living beings are the achievements of you and me, the achievements of the country and society, the achievements of you and me, the achievements of the people, and the achievements of the enterprise.
RB people have learned and applied the Chinese Zen culture, and fully integrated the spirit of Zen culture into their own enterprises. One of the most typical is Shozo Suzuki, who lived in the last years of the RB Sengoku period, when RB society was transitioning from chaos to the establishment of order.
Suzuki, who himself worked as a samurai, a bureaucrat, and finally a monk, proposed how to create a better society at the time.
