Chapter 50: The Dragon and the Railgun
The flare streaked red in the sky, the highest danger signal in the city of Salento.
At the top of the watchtower, two elven warriors began to bust in front of the magic railgun. There are two railguns, each on top of the two tallest watchtowers.
The distant roar continued, and it seemed like there was more than one dragon to hear. Vane listened to the whispering sound that grew clearer and clearer, but a question arose in his heart, although this roar was huge, it was completely different from the roar he had heard in the Everfree Forest before, so what was it if it wasn't the roar of a dragon?
Before Vane could think about it, a dark figure had already appeared in the distance. The speed of the black shadow was unbelievably fast, and in a few breaths, it had already flown close to the city wall, flapping its wings and starting to slow down.
It was a huge black dragon, with a length and wingspan of more than fifty meters, and the bipedal wyvern looked like a newborn baby compared to it. Its body resembles that of a lizard, with thick claws under its limbs, large and heavy scales, and barbs on its tail. Huge bat-shaped wings protrude upwards from its high bulging back. With heavy breathing, his wings swayed up and down, and his abdomen flickered and darkened, as if a flame was flowing inside.
That's when Vane realized how wrong the illustrations of dragons in those books were, and that most of the dragons in the books were basically similar to the wurms of the Wyvern. And when it comes to actually confronting the dragon, Vane has no doubt that it is a masterpiece of the Creator's eccentricity. Exploding muscles, perfect lines, a little more or less anywhere would be a pity.
The black dragon raised its head with curved horns and took a deep breath.
The flying beast nearby suddenly panicked and fled in all directions. Wayne was dragged by a hand and crouched down, and he saw all the people on the tower terrace crouching behind the battlement wall. Before he could figure out what was going on, a low roar came over, and at the same time his feet shook slightly, the air around him became scorching, and the entire watchtower seemed to be set on fire.
Flames poured from the battlements onto the tower terrace, and Vane watched as the rocks on the battlements turned red, and the top part even showed some signs of melting.
The scorching air burned his skin, and just when Vane couldn't take it anymore, the flames disappeared, and the temperature around him quickly dropped. Protected by the walls, the black dragon's flame breath didn't do much damage to the people on the watchtower.
"Speed up the magic railgun," shouted the adjutant as he rose from the ground, gritting his teeth as he touched the tips of his charred hair. "Give this beast a taste of railgun power!" the two elven soldiers immediately got busy.
The defenders on the nearby city walls had launched a frenzied attack on the black dragon, arrows and cannonballs raining down on it, exploding in flames. But this level of damage only provoked it, and the black dragon roared angrily, his eyes red as if they were about to erupt into flames.
"The energy source is connected stably, and the magic energy conversion channel is open normally!"
"The Biznik-class accelerator is working properly!"
"The target has been locked, and the energy has been stored. ”
“......”
There was a faint surge of blue light on the surface of the silver-white barrel of the magic energy railgun, and circles of light swept through the barrel.
"Hurry up! That guy is coming. The lieutenant stood next to him sweating profusely, it wasn't the first time he'd faced a dragon, but the coercion of this sheer power still suffocated him.
He cursed the railgun in his heart as he prayed that the black dragon would divert his target. The only weapon that Salento can use against dragons is the old antiques left over from hundreds of years ago, and its biggest problem is that it is complicated to operate, and it takes too long to store energy for each launch. But it's a miracle that this thing is still functioning now.
But as he thought, the black dragon only paused slightly, flapped his wings vigorously, and flew towards everyone under the fire of the defenders! The clearly visible giant claws and scales quickly enlarged in front of his eyes, and Vane subconsciously raised his arm to protect himself.
At that moment, a blue light flashed in the air, and a rapid muffled sound came from above, followed by a roar like a landslide that resounded through the sky. Vane only felt a gust of wind blowing, and when he looked up, the black dragon seemed to be unstable, flapping its wings violently. The Magic Railgun's alloy projectiles pierced through its hard scales, and a large amount of orange-red liquid was pouring out of the right side of its abdomen.
The black dragon screamed sadly as he tried to adjust his massive body, and turned around to leave. "Bang!" another light blue beam of light passed through its body, and it was the cannonball from the magic railgun of Vane's watchtower. The black dragon flapped its wings and struggled desperately but to no avail, it began to fall rapidly with its head down.
A burst of excited cheers erupted from the city walls, and the elven soldiers outside the city shouted in unison.
Soon the cheers became thin. A green dragon that appeared to be larger than the black dragon appeared in front of it, approaching at incredible speed, catching the injured black dragon with its wide back just before it hit the ground.
Also known as the Emerald Dragon, the Green Dragon not only spits venom to attack, but also uses powerful healing magic.
As if aware of the weakness of the defenders, the green dragon flapped its wings and slowly rose from under the city walls, calmly hovering in front of the two watchtowers at the main entrance. It watched silently at the watchtower, then turned around and flew in the direction it had come.
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief, and the huge sense of oppression was not pleasant. On the thousand-meter-long battle outside the city, the fierce battle continued, and the corpses on the ground could no longer be settled. The elves fought against the water, and their morale was high, but the continuous flow of alien beasts and necromantic creatures caused their casualties to increase rapidly, and gradually they could not support it, and they had retreated to the vicinity of the city wall.
"Woo ......" The low horn sounded, and a shout broke out around the city wall in an instant, shaking the heavens and the earth! The few hundred Pegasus knights left on the city wall rose into the air and rushed into the sky.
The leader was tall and dressed in a black cloak, and it was none other than Duke Sadler. He held a sword in his right hand and a fiery shield in his left, which looked closely to be made of whole dragon scales.
Sadler was the first to rush to the nearest bipedal wyvern, and the long tail of the bipedal wyvern swung rapidly, and with a "bang" slammed on the dragon scale shield raised by Sadler. The huge impact caused Pegasus to retreat more than ten meters, almost throwing Sadler off. Sadler quickly adjusted, dodged the green slime, tightened the reins, and rushed forward again, tangling with several nearby Pegasus knights surrounding the bipedal wyvern.
"What's that?" asked Elena, putting down her hand holding the bow and looking into the distance. In the direction where the black dragon fell just now, several black dots appeared on the distant horizon.
Vane chuckled in his heart, remembering the appearance of the green dragon when he left just now, it was not an escape, a bad thought rose from the bottom of his heart.
