Chapter 824 Thirty-two Pins

Now, the Buddha asked Rahula to visit the Vimal monks, and Rahula also refused.

He said that because he once left the city in Viya, which is where the Vima monks lived, the princes of the families in the city came to him, kowtowed to him, and asked him, "You are the son of Shakyamuni Buddha, and the emperor should not be a monk, what is the benefit of becoming a monk?" Rahula spoke to them of the merits and benefits of being a monk according to the teachings of the Dharma.

At that time, Vimala came to me and said that I should not tell them about the merits and benefits of my family.

Because "there is no profit and no merit, it is for the sake of becoming a monk", so are you not becoming a monk in vain?

Actually, what Vimala means is that since I have become a monk, I should let go of all utilitarian thoughts, not care about whether it is valuable or not, not think about what benefits I can gain in the future, what fruits I can get, and do not have this concept of interests.

At the same time, there is no concept of merit, if you think in your heart, "I have studied Buddhism, the Buddha should bless me", this is all utilitarian thinking.

Seeking Taoism and learning Buddhism should have no concept of interests, not for the sake of profit and harm, not for the sake of merit, "there is suffering if you have a request, and if you have no desire, you are strong" is a very good pair.

So, people ask you what are the benefits of becoming a monk? You should talk about the fact that there is no benefit, and if you love to become a monk, you will become a monk, and you should talk about utilitarianism with such and such benefits, which is not right.

There is another layer of truth in this sentence, a person lives in the world and asks for nothing, and there is no benefit or harm, and there is no merit and thought, and people should do good deeds. I don't dare to say that I have traveled all over the world, but I have been to many places in China, and there is a rock wall on which I see the word Dou Da who I don't know:

May heaven always give birth to good people

May people always do good

That's great! The Dharma has been taught. I think that many places of interest and historical sites, and many poems written by literati, are wasted effort, and they are not as good as the words inscribed by this unknown person.

There are many people who study Buddhism but still complain that there is no good retribution, and it is beneficial for you to spend these spirits to do anything in the world, only learning Buddhism is different. To study the Dharma is to learn the Dharma of emptiness, to let go of everything, even the concept of letting go.

If you use the heart of gain to seek the method of non-gain, it is completely contrary.

Here Vimala says that Rahula is wrong, because the question itself has already been asked wrong, and if you ask what merits and benefits the monks have, you should answer according to what merits and benefits the monks have, which is naturally wrong.

Therefore, "those who have the Dharma can be said to have merit and merit", and as far as the Dharma of the world and the Dharma of the Cause are concerned, it can be said that there are benefits and merits, and the Dharma of the world is like this.

However, "those who are monks do not do the law, and in the law of non-action, there is no benefit and no merit", and there is no concept of merit in the law of non-action. What is a true monk?

When you are really a monk, everything is put down, there is no me and no him, and there is no between you and me, there is nothing, this is the human aspect. There is no world, there is no world, and there is no middle way of being half world, half out of the world.

The Great Prajna Sutra mentions that there are sixty-two views, that is, sixty-two kinds of ideas and concepts.

The outer way thinks that there is a god or no god in this world, there is impermanence or impermanence, and so on, and so on, and so on in the past world or the future world, and so on, and after Nirvana enters the Tao, he still does not come to this world, this body and soul are one or not one, and this life has life and death or no birth and death, and there are 62 kinds of concepts in total, so I won't go into details.

All of us have these ideas at home, and we don't know that they are wrong. It seems that some people who study Buddhism and cultivate the Tao and want to come to this world again in the next life, it is too bitter, this belongs to the common God and me, it is a deviation of concept, and it has fallen into the outer way.

Even though it's a foreign way, it's also a way! The outer way is a crooked way, not a righteous way.

A monk puts down all these concepts and thoughts, so he can "be in Nirvana, which is received by the wise", Nirvana is the highest state of enlightenment, and what the wise receive is the achievement of great wisdom, not superstition, and Buddhism is about the great wisdom of each person, self-control, and blind faith will not achieve it.

Therefore, if you are really a monk, you are a person of great wisdom, and you can be experienced by the wise, and it is the realm of a saint, not that ordinary people have suffered and feel that the world is very troublesome, so if you become a monk, it is not a "holy place".

The monks shaved their heads, didn't want anything, and wore a dress that was not beautiful, why was they looked down upon by the world? Don't look at me, I want to leave this world, you have less trouble, I am free from pain, and you don't have to worry about each other.

Jumping out of the mud of society, once you have left home, you have no worries, no ties, no self, no other, and nothing to suffer, suffering is also regarded as happiness, nothing is suffered, merit is not accepted, no emptiness is not affected, no emptiness is not emptiness. This mind is absolutely pure, there is no disturbance, and there is always joy inside.

Always take care of your own thoughts, don't move bad thoughts, and even don't move your thoughts, and your thoughts are as if they were not moving. When I was talking about the Diamond Sutra last year, I said: The essence of the Diamond Sutra is in three words: "Kindness and Protection".

What is Compassion? It is to protect the other person's will and protect your heart's desire. The mind is never scattered, and it is always in the realm of meditation, which is called "following meditation".

Summing up the above passage, from "there is no other" to "leaving the crowd", Vimala told Rahula that "if this is the case, it is a true monk", not shaved his head and eaten vegetarian, that is another matter.

After Vimala scolded Rahula, he said, "Okay, now you understand, you are in the Dharma of the Dharma, and you are all going to become monks together, why?" Because now that Shakyamuni Buddha is alive, it is rare to encounter the birth of a physical Buddha in thousands of lifetimes!

They had heard that the Buddha's precept was that one was not allowed to leave the house without the consent of one's parents.

He said, "You are right, but I want you to become a monk, not to shave your head and put on a monk's robe, but your heart is really a monk, you have a Mahayana heart, you have made a great vow, and in this life you must require Bodhi, a great enlightenment, and such a supreme sincere wish, that is, to become a monk, that is, to have full vows.

On the other hand, even if you are formally ordained, if you don't really develop the three bodhichitta, you're not really ordained, and you don't have to take full vows. This is the Mahayana Bodhisattva Path, the Great Bhikshu Path.

In other scriptures, the Buddha also said that a monk is a monk of heart. How to become a monk with a heart? It is the passage in the "Vimala Sutra" just now, "Protect the other's will, follow the meditation, and depart from the crowd."

Rahula told the Buddha that there were thirty-two elders who had heard what Vimala had said, and they all had the three bodhichitta, so I am not qualified to visit the sick on your behalf.
