Chapter 14: We are all pitted with prejudices

In Zhuangzi's "Theory of Things", Zhuangzi mentions the word "becoming the heart". The word "enlightenment" is very important, and a correct understanding of it will be of great benefit to our cultivation.

So? What does it mean to become a mind?

Becoming a heart is actually a prejudice!

Preconceptions are the most popular explanations and easy to understand.

But! Understood in terms of stereotypes, people often associate words such as stubborn, conservative, and old-fashioned.

Preconceptions usually refer to an adult's formation of an inherent, one's own way of knowing, a theory of cognition about the world. And Zhuangzi's Chengxin does not only refer to the prejudice of one person, but refers to the "prejudice" that all people have in common!

So? What are the "prejudices" that all human beings have?

Culture! Experience!

This is the "stereotype" of all of us!

Why do we say that "culture" and "experience" are the "stereotypes" of all of us?

Because! Since we were born, we have received the education of our parents, elders, and people around us, so that we have "prejudices" and "hearts". That's why we think that we should understand the world in this way, get along with the people around us, and so on.

We agreed with our parents, elders, the people around us, and our teachers, and we received education.

So! Zhuangzi's "Chengxin" refers to the education we receive and the impact of education on us. We have been influenced by traditional education to form our own way of understanding the world, which is Chengxin!

We have received the education and influence of our parents, elders, and people around us to form our own unique personality and unique way of cognition, which is what Zhuangzi called "becoming the mind".

Zhuangzi's Chengxin mainly refers to the Chengxin in terms of life cognition.

In Zhuangzi's "Theory of Things", there is such a passage that is written about the heart and the dangers of the heart.

The original text is as follows:

The husband follows his heart and learns, who is alone and has no teacher? Xi Bi knows that there are people who take their own hearts? The fool and the fool. There is right and wrong before the heart, which is suitable for today and in the past. It's about making something out of nothing. There is nothing to do, although there is a god, and I can't know, I am alone and helpless!

This passage translated into the vernacular is:

Ordinary people get along with people, society, and all things in nature based on their own past experience or other people's ways of dealing with the world.

Your own past experience and the experience of others are our teachers!

This teacher is called "Chengxin", which can also be said to be prejudice or prejudice! Prejudice, prejudice or prejudice are all fixed standards in our minds for judging things and believing them to be correct!

We all have such a teacher! We all like to judge things by a fixed standard of judging things and think they are right!

Why do we have such teachers?

Why do we have a heart to become a reality?

Because! That's what we were taught from a young age! Because! Our living environment gives us the same feeling. We are educated, we identify with the experiences of others, and we form our own opinions! This is where the mind or preconception comes from!

Will foolish people be like us, will they have a fulfilled mind? The answer is yes! All of us have prejudices, prejudices! All of us have one such teacher.

So! Often before something happens, we have a judgment, a guess, and a countermeasure. We imagine something, and then! Judge, analyze, guess, and so on. And then! There is a way to deal with it.

Tease and defend or imagine the existence of an enemy first, and then attack and retaliate against the imaginary enemy.

This is the fault of Chengxin!

Ever since we had a heart, so! There is something out of nothing! Much ado about nothing! Thereupon! There is a dream! With Confucianism and Mohism, a piece of cake was drawn, and those who wanted to eat it were full of hope for the future.

It's like going to Yue today and arriving yesterday. Why did you go to Yue Country yesterday? Because! Yesterday our hearts have gone, our hearts have gone. We have richly imagined the country of Yue and imagined N possibilities! kind of situation.

This is the fault of the heart, and the absence is regarded as being. If you don't have it, you have, what is the truth? Even if Shengming's Dayu is alive, I'm afraid it is impossible to explain it clearly. And me? How can we explain these truths clearly? Let the world understand the dangers of becoming a mind?

What does it mean to treat nothing as something you have? What does it mean to have nothing?

In fact! It is mainly aimed at Confucianism and Mohistism, both of which imagine a very beautiful future. Even those of us in modern society also believe that "there is a future only if there is a dream".

In fact! The future is beautiful, our expectations, ideals, dreams, and imagined future worlds, which do not exist. But! We take it as existence! Because! Confucianism and Mohism, as well as us in modern society, all firmly believe that "as long as you persist in your dreams, you will come true", which is to treat nothing as nothing!

Zhuangzi's talk about the formation of the mind in the theory of things is not limited to the understanding of words, nor is it limited to the understanding of the article on the theory of things. If we are limited to the understanding of the text, and only to the understanding of the article on the theory of alignment, then the understanding of Zhuangzi's "Chengxin" is one-sided.

Zhuangzi hopes that we can jump out of the limitations of the cognition of Chengxin and look at the world and problems from a higher level.

Otherwise? We will become the shadow of others, live that shadow-like life, repeat the story of yesterday, repeat the story of others, repeat the story of our ancestors.

We have to have the spirit of Marx: doubt everything!

We can't accept all the education we receive from our parents, elders, people around us, and teachers! We can't accept it all, it doesn't mean that we should deny it all! Don't understand dogmatically. We need to re-examine the traditional education we have received. We have to rethink ourselves, take the essence and remove the dross.

From the perspective of the Zhuangzi period, we should not believe in the Zhou rites, the Zhou system, as well as the Confucianism, Mohistism, or the doctrines of the Hundred Schools of Thought. We have to re-examine, we have to jump out of the circle of Zhou Li, Zhou system, Confucianism, Mohistism and the hundred schools of thought, and we have to stand on a higher angle to re-examine.

We should not be bound by traditional doctrines and ideas, and only when we abandon the "heart" and the shackles of traditional thinking can we truly emancipate our minds.

Can we look at life and the world anew from the perspective of the Taoist outlook on life, the world, and the cosmology?

This is the purpose of Zhuangzi's "heart"!

What if the people of the world at that time could jump out of the circle of Confucianism, Moism, and other schools of thought and accept Taoist thought? So! Will you have a new life?

From the perspective of modern society, can we abandon the shackles of traditional philosophical thought, and can we abandon the circle of Eastern culture, Western culture, and religion?

If we jump out of the circle of Eastern and Western cultures, out of the circle of Confucianism and Taoism, out of the circle of Buddhism and God, and from the perspective of human beings, will we get a new life? Will we develop a new outlook on life?

As Zhuangzi said in the Theory of Homogeneity: What is the dispute between Confucianism and Mohistism? Similarly! Eastern and Western cultures, religious cultures, are just for the sake of a better life for human beings. Can we say that someone else follows a culture that is wrong? People say that the culture we follow is wrong.

In fact! It's all about survival!

Who goes against this common will of all - the will to live! So! Whoever has this culture will surely sink in the history of mankind.

You also want to live, and I also want to live, this is everyone's common will and idea. When some people only care about themselves and ignore the survival wishes of others, the world will inevitably be chaotic!

Because! We are not stupider than others! When others don't let us survive, resistance is an inevitable choice! Confrontation is inevitable, and when reconciliation cannot be achieved, the enemy and the enemy will come to fight to the death!

So! Becoming a heart is a curse! We have to abandon our hearts! Only by re-examining life, re-examining the philosophical ideas we have accepted, can we be reborn and reinvent ourselves.

Zhuangzi's intention is to ask us to abandon our minds, re-examine our lives, and accept Taoist ideas. Only Taoist doctrine and thought are the true philosophy of life, the philosophy of survival, and the ultimate philosophy of mankind.

Only by accepting the ideas of Taoism can we say goodbye to life like a shadow.
