Chapter 544: Listening to the Fun (Medium)

After Du Wei finished telling the story of "Six Ancestors Hui Neng Turning the Enemy into Disciples", he raised his eyes and looked at the endless fields at the foot of Longshan Mountain, and said meaningfully, "In the temples of the current dynasty, most of them are equipped with scripture pavilions or scripture buildings, as a place to collect, consult, disseminate and display Tianzhu and Chinese Buddhist classics, but the Lingnan ancient temple Xinzhou County Guoen Temple is different from other temples, specially equipped with a scripture recording building, and there was an accident that burned the scripture recording building, it is said that there is a story here!" After Du Wei made an opening remark, he told the story of "The Burning of the Scripture Building"-

Originally, during the propagation of the Dharma in Shaozhou Dafan Temple and Baolin Temple, every time he preached the teachings of Buddhism to the monks and laymen and believers, they only spoke orally, and there were no written classics to preach according to the book, which was the inheritance and development of the Tianzhu Sect of "the Buddha does not say, the righteousness has no words" teaching method, that is, the Buddhist doctrine is empty and lonely, and there is no language, sound, or text to be transmitted, but "to the heart of the heart, that is, the heart is the Buddha", and the "realm of the Buddha" can not be said.

Therefore, in order to record the righteousness of the Six Patriarchs Hui Neng in Cao Xi, there is a special Baolin Temple Gate Fahai, who is mainly responsible for the records of the Six Ancestors to propagate the Dharma, and the various versions of the "Six Ancestors Dharma Treasure Altar Sutra" handed down from history are based on the collection of Fahai. As a result, in July of the second year of Tang Xiantian (713), the six ancestors returned to Xinzhou Guoen Temple from Baolin Temple to preach the Dharma until the sixth ancestor passed away in Xinzhou, Fahai has been by Huineng's side, and Xinzhou Guoen Temple has also specially set up a scripture recording building for Fahai to sort out and edit the scriptures. During this period, there was an incident in which gangsters set fire in a vain attempt to burn the manuscript of the Six Patriarchs' Dharma propagation scriptures.

One night in July of that year, the sky was full of dark clouds, thunder and lightning, and a gangster took advantage of the bad weather to sneak into the scripture recording building, first lit the torch, and then wanted to burn the scripture manuscript on the bookstand, but the light of the torch illuminated the monks of Fahai and Guoen Temple who were about to sleep.

Suddenly, just as the torch was extinguished, the Sixth Ancestor Huineng had appeared in front of everyone, and when the villain saw the Sixth Ancestor and the monks, he was also so shocked that his whole body trembled, and he knelt on the ground and begged for mercy.

At this time, I saw the six ancestors say to the villain: "When the evil is lost, the demon is in the house, and the Buddha is in the hall when the right thing is seen." The evil view of the three poisons in the sex is born, that is, the king of Mo comes to live in the house, and the righteous view is to eliminate the three poisonous hearts, and the demon becomes a Buddha......

This villain, after listening to the proclamation of the six ancestors, knew that he had evil thoughts and did something wrong. It is a sin to burn the manuscript of the scriptures so that they are not passed on to the world. Now there is only the only way to stop evil and follow good, and to eliminate the three poisonous hearts. Therefore, he declared to the six ancestors: "I am willing to follow you and be the protector stone of Longshan and Guoen Temple for eternity."

After speaking, a figure passed away from the scripture recording building to the Tiger Claw Mountain in the north and east of the Guoen Temple, turning into a large stone.

The manuscript of the Six Patriarchs Altar has been preserved intact. Before the death of the six patriarchs, the last propagation of the Dharma in the Guoen Temple was sorted out. The Ten Instructions have also been passed down together for thousands of years, and have been spread at home and abroad. Later generations also found this big stone in the rice fields on the side of Huclaw Mountain, l kilometers behind Longshan. This boulder is more than a foot high, and it stands like a wall.

In order to commemorate the protection of the Record Building, to remember the merits of the six ancestors Hui Neng, and to warn people not to forget the catastrophe of burning the Record Building, the local parents invited a calligrapher to write the word "Longshan" under this big stone, and asked someone to engrave the stone, each word is more than 4 feet wide, the handwriting is clear and strong, and it has become a great victory in Longshan.

After Du Wei finished telling the story of "The Burning of the Scripture Building", he turned to Du Fu and Zhang Cambodia, and said mysteriously: "The stories I told just now have nothing to do with the literati and ink writers, I don't know if Lord Zhang and the old man want to change their tastes, listen to the ...... of the six ancestors Hui Neng is related to the literati and ink writers, and has a lot to do with your surname, Lord Zhang?" Du Wei stopped talking about this, so he sold it in a mysterious way.

Zhang Cambodia and Du Fu looked at each other, glanced at Du Wei with torch-like eyes, and said loudly: "Since it has something to do with the old man's surname, don't talk about it quickly!" ”

Du Wei solemnly: "Obey!" Mr. Zhang, please listen. ”

Then, Du Wei told a little-known story of "Huineng and Zhang Jiuling":

Zhang Jiuling and the Sixth Ancestor Huineng were born in the same era, but Zhang Jiuling was much younger than the Sixth Ancestor Huineng. Due to coincidence, the two appreciated each other, and later became friends who forgot about the year, leaving behind a string of eternal stories.

Zhang Jiuling's parents are both believers in Buddhism, and Zhang Jiuling has also recited Buddhist scriptures with his mother since he was a child. In order to avoid the pursuit of the Northern Sect of Buddhism, before entering the Baolin Temple of Caoxi in Qujiang, Huineng once built a monk's house to practice in Shixing Qinghua Qixingdun (located at the junction of Shixing, Qujiang and Wengyuan counties, with an altitude of 1,301 meters above sea level, and a famous mountain in Shixing County). When Zhang Jiuling was only four or five years old, he often accompanied his mother to Qixingdun to listen to Huineng's lectures. By the age of five or six, the ninth child was already able to recite many scriptures.

At first, Zhang Jiuling didn't know that Huineng was a person who didn't read much, so he often asked him for words. And Huineng always doesn't read books, and asks Jiuling to read out the sentence where the word is asked, and he will tell Jiuling what word he wants to ask.

It's really strange, how can he know what sound this word pronounces and what meaning it does without even looking at it? Could it be that Hui Neng has fairy eyes?

With this thought, Zhang Jiuling admired Huineng even more, and believed that Huineng was a living Buddha with vast powers and omnipotence.

Although Zhang Jiuling memorized many scriptures at a young age, and especially admired the Taoist monk Huineng, who practiced at home, he just didn't want to offer incense to the Buddha, let alone kneel down to worship the Buddha, and was not even happy to bow to the Buddha. Zhang's mother repeatedly reprimanded him for not being so disrespectful to the Buddha, but Xiao Jiuling was very stubborn, and he refused to worship the Buddha anyway. Zhang's mother was helpless, so she went to ask Xiao Jiuling's uncle Zhang Hongya to teach him a lesson, because she knew that Xiao'er listened to his uncle the most. Zhang Hongya asked Xiao Jiuling: "Guanyin Bodhisattva is merciful and compassionate, and everyone in the world worships and worships, why do you dare to despise the gods?"

Jiu Ling replied: "All Buddha statues are either made of mud or carved out of wood, what spirituality will they have?" I can do something for my parents at a young age, what will they do? Why do we bow down to these dry mud and dead wood every day?"

Zhang Hongya said: "Although the Buddha statue is an idol, it also shows whether a person is devout to the Buddha or not. If you are not respectful to the Buddha statues, what kind of Buddha can you talk about?"

Jiuling replied: "Master Huineng said: The Buddha works from nature, don't ask outside the body. I have a Buddha in my heart, and the Buddha in my heart is a true Buddha. If you don't have a Buddha heart, where can you seek the true Buddha? Therefore, the Buddha's words are pure with his heart, that is, the Buddha's land is pure. If you have an unkind heart, it is difficult to recite the Buddha and pass away. ”

Zhang Hongya asked: "According to this, has it become superfluous for everyone to burn incense and make alms to the Bodhisattva?"

Jiuling replied, "It should be." Master Huineng said: Why do you work hard to keep the precepts with a peaceful mind, and what is the use of practicing meditation when you are straight? Kindness is filial piety to parents, and righteousness is compassion for each other. Let the humble and harmonious, and endure the evil. If you can drill wood to make fire, the silt will give birth to red lotus. A bitter mouth is good medicine, and an adverse ear must be a good word. Reform will give birth to wisdom, and protect the short-hearted non-virtuous. Daily use is often beneficial, and enlightenment is not due to money. Bodhi only seeks from the heart, and He Lao seeks the mystery from the outside. It is said that according to this practice, the West is only for the present. Master Huineng also said: Merit must be seen from within one's nature, not what is sought by giving offerings. ”

Zhang Hongya listened to Jiuling's words with solid evidence, and his head was the truth, but he had never heard these fresh remarks, and he was still skeptical whether it really came from Huineng's mouth.

As the saying goes: The little monk recites the menstrual moon without heart. What meaning could a child like him understand? Jiuling, who is only five years old, listens to Hui Neng's chanting with such diligence and never forgets it, is it true? So he personally went to Qixingdun to ask Master Huineng. Huineng said: "The nine-year-old little benefactor is extremely talented, and he will be above everyone and under the Son of Heaven in the future, so he only faces the Son of Heaven and not the Buddha." What he said was exactly what Lao Na meant. ”
