Chapter 181: New Tactics
The Führer's motorcade is usually parked in the underground garage of the Prime Minister's Office, and usually enters and exits from a special passage on the west side of the Prime Minister's Office, and there is a hidden vehicle elevator next to the sidewalk on the side of the Prime Minister's Palace, which looks like an ordinary floor when raised.
The elevator is normally used by trucks carrying supplies, and the food and supplies on board can be sent directly to the underground warehouse. Xu Jun rarely enters the underground garage, he only needs to give orders, and the convoy will naturally wait in front of the agreed door.
The Reich Führer currently has twenty luxury cars that belong to him personally, and in addition to various Mercedes, he also has a Citroen, a Rover, a Rolls-Royce Phantom and a Daimler DB18, some of which were gifts from foreign governments, others that were purchased privately with money, all of which have been strengthened and modified.
Originally, Mercedes-Benz complied with Hitler's request to replace the Führer's car with a high-horsepower supercharged engine, a mine-resistant armored chassis, five-centimeter-thick bulletproof glass for the windows, and a bulletproof steel plate on the inner layer of the door, and finally manufactured the famous Mercedes-Benz 770K.
The new Reich Führer put forward the concept of heavy protection, requiring all his vehicles to withstand the test of German small arms in service.
Xu Jun didn't like convertibles much for safety reasons, but he had to take some risks because of political propaganda needs. When operating in Berlin, such as from the Chancellery to the High Command, he likes to fly in a hard-top Mercedes 770K with a 30-millimeter-thick hardened armor plate that can withstand the strafing of most of today's fighter jets.
Of course, some perverted modifications cannot be included, such as the early Stuka JU87G Cannon Bird.
At present, the research schedule of the Luftwaffe is full, and the top level of the Air Force is convinced that the dive bomber will be eliminated by the multi-role attack aircraft, so the German army stopped the development of the Stuka replacement model and shifted its focus to the research and development project of the multi-role attack aircraft.
Xu Jun is not interested in making a German version of Il-2, after the German army has strengthened its medium- and short-range anti-aircraft firepower, it is impossible for the myth of the Black Death to be repeated again. The Stuka Cannon Bird is only an over-the-top version, and the German Stuka will probably need to hold out for about a year before the new attack aircraft is fully reequipped.
However, with Stukka's current performance, as long as the Luftwaffe firmly grasps the battlefield air supremacy, this dive bomber is a formidable threat to all Soviet ground forces.
The German Army Air Corps had begun to equip themselves with new types of anti-tank cluster bombs, each containing 40 to 80 butterfly bombs, the kind of small bombs known as the Devil's Egg, which had shown its face once in the Battle of Dunkirk in this time and space, and caused a considerable psychological shadow on the British and French forces in the encirclement.
Now the Germans are armed with its anti-tank version, equipped with a bronze cast shaped charge warhead, detonated by a metal jet that can penetrate thirty-five mm thick homogeneous steel armor.
The bomb can be dropped by a single-engine dive bomber or a multi-launch horizontal bomber, and after the bomb box leaves the carrier aircraft, the cover plate is bounced open at a preset height, and the submunitions loaded inside are then scattered over an area.
The size of the specific dispersion area depends on the height at which the cartridge box is opened, and this value fluctuates in a space of 500 to 50 meters, which at that time did not have any technical threshold, only a simple barometric altimeter was needed.
After using gravity and centrifugal force to throw out the submunitions inside, the original cartridge box is useless, and maybe if you are lucky, you can kill one or two soldiers on the ground. The moment the demon egg left the mother bomb, the fuse was torn open, and then the wings folded around the missile body popped outward, and then the traction cable on the missile body was dragged out by gravity, and the warhead was suspended under the rotating wings and began to fall steadily downward.
To put it in layman's terms, this thing is like a bamboo dragonfly, the open wings rotate rapidly, effectively reducing the speed of the projectile's fall, and at the same time creating a stable descending attitude for the projectile, so that one side of the warhead is always facing the ground.
The direction of attack of the shaped charge warhead is vertically downward, which means that it attacks the most vulnerable top of the tank's armor, and because the projectile does not rotate with the wings at high speed, the metal jet is able to exert the best armor-piercing effect.
Army aviation has experimented that a medium cluster bomb, if well dispersed, can destroy all armored units in an area of two hundred square meters. At the same time, the Germans believed that, with the current power of this ammunition, no Soviet tank could withstand this terrible weapon falling from the sky.
However, this weapon also has its limitations, and the High Command believes that it is currently only suitable for German battles in an offensive situation, and is used to destroy armored clusters on enemy lines. Because the bomb was not very technical, the army command feared that if an unexploded submunition fell into enemy hands, this was a common thing on the battlefield, and the Soviets would most likely copy it and then use it on the heads of the German army's own armored forces. The high command found that none of the tanks that the Germans were currently equipped with could withstand the attack of such a small devil.
In offensive operations, the Germans held the initiative on the battlefield and, if used properly, should be able to guarantee that this secret weapon would not fall into the hands of the enemy.
So what other ways can the Germans effectively contain the offensive momentum of the opposing attacking forces in the retreating situation of their own troops?
The answer is yes, and that is the newly developed aerial mine-laying tactics of the German army.
There is really nothing mysterious about this tactic, which only emerged during the Vietnam War. To put it bluntly, it is to throw mines from the air to the ground, and quickly create a large area of mine belts in the open air.
As we all know, mines are usually planted under the ground, which can be seen as a camouflage trap using explosions as a means of killing, relying on the enemy's fear of unknown threats to effectively delay the enemy's actions.
Aerial mines, on the other hand, are completely open-air, and the mines are completely exposed to the ground, making them easy for the enemy to detect.
You may wonder how a mine that can be seen can be stepped on by someone if the enemy is not an idiot or a blind man. In fact, this is the desired effect of aerial minelaying tactics, the purpose of which is to delay and block the movement of enemy troops, or force enemy troops to turn around, or reduce the movement speed of enemy troops.
At that time, the mine-clearing technology was still very primitive, and it was usually mainly manual demining, even if the mines were placed in the open air, as long as the number and density were large enough, if the enemy wanted to clear a passage for a large army to pass through, it would have to spend a lot of manpower, material resources and time. Intensive shelling may clear a minefield, but the problem is that the ground that has been plowed by artillery can also hinder the movement of troops.
Of course, the easier way is to bypass the minefield, so that the purpose of the minelayer is also achieved, and if the commander does it correctly, he can even force the enemy into his own ambush circle.
The German army is currently developing a set of rocket mine-laying equipment according to the Führer's drawings, which can be used to quickly lay a large minefield, and the specific dispersal principle is similar to that of the cluster bombs above.
Another outstanding advantage of this minefield is that after the end of the battle, the mines are relatively easy to clear and will not cause harm to your own troops.
In addition, on the winter battlefield on the Eastern Front, a large number of mines thrown in the air will be buried by snow, and a mine defense line can be quickly created at the front of the position. If these mines were to be fitted with timed self-detonation devices, even subsequent demining could be avoided.
The Germans could self-destruct after a day or a week, during which time the front line was closed, and after the scheduled time, the mines would self-destruct, and the Germans could attack the enemy through the minefields.
"Wonder if you think about it, Willle, is there anything you have forgotten?" Xu Jun put the report on the aerial minelaying exercise sent by the Army Headquarters into the briefcase.
"All ready, my Führer, Marshal Brauchitsch, has given a notice." Wehrle nodded in reply.
The Reich Führer stood up from behind his desk and tugged at the hem of his uniform.
"How much time does it take on the road?" Xu Jun opened the drawer of his desk, took out his matching gun from it, and then skillfully removed the magazine.
"If it goes well, it won't take more than twenty hours." Weirle handed the briefcase to Colonel Kirsten.
"I think you should think about it again, my Führer." Kirsten persuaded.
"Don't worry, Colonel Kirsten, the day after tomorrow .. At most, I'll be back the day after tomorrow. After Xu Jun put the magazine back on and closed the safety, he inserted the pistol into the cowhide holster.
"Eric, are the guards ready?"
"Assembled, my Führer." Tysenhofen handed the military hat to Xu Jun.
"Alright, let's go now." The head of the empire put on his military cap, picked up the marshal's staff on the table, and shook a stick in a dashing manner.
PS: Thank you all for your support, the author will continue to work hard.
The time difference is finally reversed, but there is not much free time now, and it may be better after a while.
Next week, I will try to find time to write as much as possible, and try to pay off last month's debt.
