Chapter 446: Khalid Rises

Thirty main battle tanks is not much, plus thirty infantry fighting vehicles is also extremely limited, but thirty main battle tanks lined up, followed by thirty infantry fighting vehicles, charging from the rear and flanks of the defensive line, the scene is absolutely shocking, and the attack power is beyond doubt.

The point is not how many tanks and tanks there are, but the direction of attack.

It was only a surprise attack that broke through the rebels' defensive line east of Semavo, which was technically a defensive position made up of improvised fortifications.

The first to fire was not the "Khalid" main battle tank, but the BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicle.

Against improvised fortifications of the rebels, such as machine-gun fortresses, the BMP-3's 100-mm gun was sufficient, and there was no need to use tank guns.

In addition, the "Khalid" main battle tank does not have a lot of ammunition in reserve, only 39 rounds.

Considering the possibility of encountering the main rebel forces, especially the armored forces, each Khalid carried 25 armor-piercing shells, 4 artillery missiles and 10 multi-purpose high-explosive shells, so when encountering a low-threat target, it had to be handed over to the infantry fighting vehicles following behind.

Breaking through the rebel lines, the armored battalion continued to advance westward.

To be precise, it should be a reinforced armored battalion.

Because there were not many tanks and few infantry fighting vehicles, Wang Dong incorporated a tank company and a combat vehicle company of the mechanized infantry battalion into the assault force.

Only the armored forces that are used together can exert the strongest combat effectiveness.

It was at this time that the A-5PG fleet arrived and began bombarding the rebels south of Semavo.

More than 30 A-5PGs were divided into eight formations and took turns dropping bombs about 3,000 meters in front of the armored cluster, using bombs to clear the way for the armored cluster.

Concentrated bombing, mainly against the infantry of the rebels.

Because the advance speed was so fast, the infantry on the BMP-3 could not get out of the vehicle and fight, and therefore could not provide cover for the tank.

In addition, it is nighttime, and it may not be possible to detect the rebel anti-tank group in time.

Fortunately, the rebels did not have many individual anti-tank missiles, and it was impossible to send an anti-tank team immediately after a surprise attack.

The bombing lasted about ten minutes, and all the A-5PG ran out of bombs.

Only then did the armored assault cluster meet a real adversary.

A tank company of the rebels came out of the city, starting with six M1A1 main battle tanks and eight M2A3 infantry fighting vehicles.

This time, it was still the BMP-3 that fired first.

At a distance of almost 4,000 meters, more than a dozen BMP-3s were the first to go into battle, using the main guns, but not shells.

It's an artillery missile!

Each BMP-3 has six gun-launched missiles of the 9M117 type, three more than in the normal configuration, and is designed to deal with infantry fighting vehicles of the rebels.

The artillery-launched missiles were sold to the UAE along with the BMP-3, later given to Saudi Arabia, and then resold to the Pakistani army, but some of them came from Ukraine as a windfall when Pakistan purchased the T-80U from Ukraine.

9M117 is not enough to destroy the main battle tank, but against infantry fighting vehicles, it is more than enough.

The key is the range, and the speed at which the shells can fly.

At a maximum range of 4000 meters, the average flight speed of the 9M117 is up to 300 meters per second, which is much faster than the "Tao" anti-tank missile of the M2A3.

As for the range, the two missiles are on par.

The faster flight speed means that in the case of simultaneous fire, the BMP-3 can destroy the M2A3 first, so that the "Tao" missile launched by the M2A3 can lose control.

Sixteen BMP-3s were fired at stop-and-fire, and at extreme distances.

Apparently, the rebels simply did not expect that the opposing side would attack the infantry fighting vehicles first, and not the main battle tanks that rushed ahead.

The 9M117 has a single-shot hit rate of eighty percent, and two missiles against one target at the same time gives an overall hit rate of up to ninety-six percent.

Eight M2A3s were not spared, and at least five were hit by two missiles.

Next, it was the turn of the main battle tanks of both sides.

At a distance of about 3000 meters, the rebel M1A1 opened fire first.

Apparently, the rebels were confident that the M829A1 armor-piercing projectile would be able to penetrate the frontal armor of the Khalid main battle tanks that looked a bit like T-series tanks at this distance.

If you hit, you will definitely be able to penetrate it.

Quite simply, Yunlong only managed to get new armor-piercing shells and artillery-launched missiles, while the reactive armor was still in transit, and the remote-controlled weapon station did not have access to it.

The main thing is that ammunition can be transported by air, while each set of reactive armor weighing up to six tons can only be transported by sea.

It is a pity that not a single shot of the armor-piercing shells fired by the M1A1 hit the "Khalid" main battle tank.

The combat distance of 3000 meters is still a little too far for the M1A1, not to mention that it is night, and the infrared imager of the M1A1 is not very good.

Back then, in the Gulf War, the U.S. military's M1A1 even had to rely on the M2A3 to find targets in night battles.

The key is that the maximum detection range of the infrared imager of the M1A1 is only 1500 meters, while the M2A3 is equipped with an infrared night vision device that is slightly better in order to give full play to the range advantage of the anti-tank missile, and the maximum detection distance under ideal conditions reaches 2500 meters.

Although these M1A1s of the rebels have been improved, the infrared night vision devices are still not ideal.

The distance was reduced to 2500 meters before "Khalid" opened fire on the rebel M1A1.

This distance, too, is a bit far for "Khalid", almost the ultimate engagement distance.

It's just that 30 vs. 8, the numerical advantage can make up for the lack of hit rate.

As for the power of armor-piercing shells, this is not a problem at all.

Although the long-rod tungsten core armor-piercing bullet brought by Yunlong is not as good as the model used by Huaxia itself, it is certainly much better than the previous model provided by Pakistan.

At a distance of 2500 meters, such armor-piercing shells are capable of penetrating homogeneous armor at least 600 mm thick.

The Rebel M1A1 has a frontal turret and hull protection against armor-piercing shells equivalent to up to 550 mm of homogeneous armor.

In the blink of an eye, at least six M1A1s were hit by armor-piercing shells.

The tankmen of the remaining two M1A1 lost the courage to fight and immediately released a smoke screen and, at the same time, reversed backwards, trying to retreat to the city.

Obviously, this is a serious mistake.

Smoke bombs are all projected forward, so after firing smoke bombs, you should continue to move into the smoke screen area instead of reversing backwards.

A few seconds later, as the eight "Khaleds" opened fire again, the two M1A1s were reduced to burning scrap metal.

In the first engagement, "Khalid" completely defeated the M1A1.

Of course, it is not that the "Khalid" is more advanced and more powerful than the M1A1, the key is the play of the tanker, especially the tank commander.

The commanders of the 30 "Khaleds" are all operatives, and all of them have experience in tank combat.

Because of the lack of manpower, the driver and artillery commander were both Iraqi soldiers, but they both underwent high-intensity training for half a month.

In addition, the numerical superiority also played a crucial role.

If it is 30 M1A1s, this battle will definitely not be so easy, and it is impossible to fall on one side, and there will inevitably be a lot of "Khalid" damaged.
