Chapter 22: Collective Amnesia
The spiders were not in a hurry to attack, they were only about three or four meters away from Vane and Rostry. The air was filled with a fishy smell, and Vane couldn't help but retch.
In the distance, spiders are constantly congregating, and they seem to assess the combat effectiveness of both sides. Vane glanced at it, there were hundreds of spiders, and he suddenly had a strange thought, I wonder if these things can be eaten after being roasted with fireballs?
As more and more spiders appeared, the spider colony began to move, rubbing their forelimbs against each other to make a "squeaking" sound, gradually approaching the two.
Just then, Rostryy moved. He raised his staff high and chanted a quick incantation, and the magic was done between the lightning and flint. There was no earth-shattering effect as expected, as if nothing had happened, and the spiders seemed to be stunned, and the surroundings became strangely quiet.
"Let's go!" came Rostry's deliberately muffled voice. Vane turned his head to look and found that Rostry's was gone, no, if you look closely, you can see a trace of ripples in the air, and it is a high-level magic - group stealth!
The spider colony began to agitate, as if enraged by the disappearance of a large meal, perhaps upset by an incomprehensible situation. But there's no doubt that they don't want to just leave.
Rostry's front, Vane behind, they staggered to avoid or step over the disgusting spiders. Vane nearly fainted from the disgusting smell around him, probably the most memorable smell he had ever had.
"Whew, it's disgusting to finally escape. Vane inhaled as he leaned against a tree, his expression relieved.
Rostry's figure slowly appeared in the air next to him: "There are a large number of strange beasts on the edge of Obojar, and the situation may be much worse than we imagined......"
After saying that, he silently said something, and his left hand turned into a palm and stretched forward, and a brown feathered owl appeared on his palm. The owl shifted its toes and adjusted its direction, then flapped its wings and flew west.
Rostri lifted his hat as if he had thought of something, fumbled with his left hand with the bag around his waist, and then pulled out a flat, palm-sized object. The thing was made up of a row of hollow round pipes of varying lengths, and the emerald green surface seemed to have some lines looming.
"This is a magic pan flute, which was refined many years ago by an old friend of mine, an alchemist. As he spoke, he put it to his mouth and blew it gently, and the melodious voice floated out of the pan flute, and there seemed to be nothing special.
"Its sound interferes with the enemy, making them unable to think and stop moving. Of course, this time is very short, and the effect will be weakened if you use it multiple times in a row against the same enemy. But blow this pan flute when you're in danger, and it might save your life. Rostri explained.
"It's not a magical artifact, it's a small toy. It's yours now, Vane. With that, he handed the pan flute to Vane.
Vane couldn't figure out why Minister Rostry's gift him a magical item, but he accepted it and thanked him. There was a hint of coldness in the hand, the emerald green round tubes were smooth and round, and more than a dozen of them were tightly connected together, without a single gap in the middle.
That's all I can do to help, I hope this kid doesn't let us down. Rostry, looking at Vane who was bowing his head and fiddling with the pan flute, said silently in his heart.
When they returned to the city, it was already dark, and the bustling streets were still as busy as ever, but the worry in Rostry's eyes was a little heavier.
"Vane!" Before he reached the door of the Wizards' Guild, he heard the voices of Elena and the others.
"We've been waiting for you for a long time, why did you sneak out early in the morning, and we thought you were captured by a strange beast. Elena said dissatisfied, clasping her hands on her chest.
"Ahem, do you mean I'm a beast?" Rostry's thin face was deliberately elongated, looking a bit like a beast.
"Ah, no, no, I didn't mean that. Elena hurriedly waved her hand.
"Haha, are you still living in the Wizards' Guild today?" Rostry, smiling.
"We were waiting for Vane to go to the Raven Inn, and while I was very happy with the free accommodation, I couldn't sleep well on the floor. Felder's eyes were a little dark, and he looked sleepless.
"Let's go, Vane, we've got your stuff packed for you. With that, the men said goodbye to Rostry, and set off for the Raven Inn.
The Wizards' Guild heads south, a few blocks to the Raven and Golden Vine Inn. The road is still full of people and noise, and people are probably still immersed in the atmosphere of Miracle Day.
"Bang!" As he passed through an alley, a man hurriedly came and hit Vane's left shoulder, and Vane's arm, which had not healed, instantly became in severe pain, causing him to gasp a few times.
The man was wearing a black hooded cloak, and he did not stop, but lowered his head and continued to hurry on his way.
"Hey, what's the matter with you, don't you apologize for hitting someone?" said Elena angrily as she pointed to the man in the black cloak when she saw Vane's appearance.
The black cloak stopped, and he slowly turned around and walked slowly forward, his back to the sunlight turning his face hidden under the hood into a dark shadow.
Felder stepped forward, drawing his steel broadsword and taking a step in front of Vane and Elena. Simpson also stepped forward, looking warily at the black cloak.
The black cloak still walked slowly. Just as Vane began to chant the spell in a low voice, the man in black suddenly raised his right hand, and a short staff appeared in his hand, with a shrunken horned sheep's skull embedded in the top of the pitch-black staff.
Black smoke erupted from the sheep's skull, rolling towards Vane and them as if they were alive, enveloping several people in an instant.
It was pitch black in front of him, and Vane felt that his strength was rapidly draining from his body, and he slowly became unsteady on his feet, gradually losing consciousness......
"Vane, wake up. A familiar voice came to my ear, it was Felder. In the distance, there was a lot of noise, and his body was uncomfortable, and Vane sat up with his hands propped up, and found himself in a small alley, with the other three lying on the ground next to him, except for Felder.
The two woke up Elena and the others, and everyone was at a loss for a while, and they were silent for a while.
"I remember we just came out of the Wizards' Guild to go to the Raven Inn, how did we lie here and fall asleep?" said Elena.
"Have you noticed anything since you came out of the Wizards' Guild...... All of us don't remember. Ace had a look of fear in her eyes.
"That's right, we both had brief amnesia. Vane said with a frown.
