Chapter 509: The Chongqing Massacre

The Japanese planes wreaked havoc over Chongqing for dozens of minutes before they flapped their wings and returned home. However, the bombing did not end there, and after receiving the bombing plan from Nishio-zuuri, the Japanese base camp decided to expand the results of the war and characterize the retaliatory bombing as strategic bombing, in order to achieve the goal of deterring the Chongqing government and coercing it to surrender. As soon as the army air force left the skies over Chongqing, carrier-based planes of the Japanese Navy immediately covered the sky and the sun and continued to bomb Chongqing indiscriminately and indiscriminately for nearly five hours.

In this bombing, the Japanese army flew more than 1,000 sorties, destroyed countless houses and buildings, and suffered a terrifying number of nearly 100,000 casualties, 90 percent of whom were innocent people. In particular, during the bombing, the exit of an air-raid shelter in the center of Chongqing collapsed, and nearly 20,000 civilians inside died of suffocation and stampede on each other.

Because this day is November 8, the 30th year of the Republic of China, it is called the "118th Chongqing Massacre" in history. Together with "Huayuankou Embankment", it is known as the two major tragedies in the Republic of China. The Wenxi fire escaped because of Jiang Haoran's toss, but the Chongqing tragedy still happened, and it was more than half a year earlier than in history.

During the bombing, the most bizarre thing was that in the first round of bombing, the Japanese army accurately found the newly built secret airport in Chongqing -- Liangshan Airport, and more than 40 Soviet planes that had not yet had time to take off were destroyed by the Japanese army. At this point, after receiving 100 planes from the Soviet Union, the Chinese Air Force had purchased more than 20 planes from the United States with her connections, and the air defense force had already been strengthened.

After the tragedy, the chairman of the NPC Standing Committee immediately took to the streets, personally commanded the army to rescue the wounded, extinguish the fires, and resettle the refugees, and held an important press conference to strongly condemn the brutality of the Japanese invaders, call on the whole people to resist Japan, and said that the Nationalist Government would fight the Japanese invaders to the end and never compromise.

When the news reached the 40th Group Army, Jiang Haoran's eyes were about to split, and a good Nanmu desk was slapped by him and fell apart.

He didn't expect that such a small initiative would attract such a dehumanizing retaliation from the Japanese army, nor did he expect that it would bring another devastating blow to the Chinese Air Force. Intelligence from Chongqing shows that the Japanese air force is so powerful that the new planes they are equipped with are so good that the Chinese air force has no power to fight back.

Jiang Haoran immediately realized that because of his arrival, he had unconsciously accelerated the process of history, and several new weapons launched at the 331 base also allowed the Japanese army to speed up the research of weapons, so that the Zero aircraft could come out in advance, and perhaps the Japanese army had begun to improve tanks and other weapons.

From the early outbreak of the world war, to the early accession of Okamura Ningji and Hideki Tojo, the early signing of the "Soviet-Japanese Non-Aggression" Treaty, and the early arrival of the Chongqing tragedy, all indicate that the course of history has completely changed.

If it is the former, it is okay, since China lost the aid of the Soviet Union, the War of Resistance against Japan has fallen into a difficult stage, even more tragic than in history, the frontal battlefield, the Nationalist Government has been unable to support a large-scale battle, the survival behind the enemy is also more difficult, Yan zhòng lacks weapons, ammunition and food and medicine, the enemy can only be attacked with bayonets, and the casualty rate is higher than that of the same period. China's battlefield is in dire need of international turmoil to inject fresh blood.

If the latter is the case, it means that China will face the continued aggression of the Japanese army alone, and in the face of not harming the interests of other countries, they will still adopt an attitude of not caring about themselves, waiting for China to be fully occupied by the Japanese army and then get a piece of the pie. Although Jiang Haoran had the 331 base, as well as Mustang fighters, Cobra gunships, and Tiger tanks, which were too advanced weapons, once the Japanese army's plan to move south was successful, the last international route, the Yunnan-Burma Highway, would be cut off, and crude oil could not be transported, and all weapons would become a pile of scrap metal. Moreover, in terms of the production capacity of the 331 base, it is far from being able to compete with the entire industrial base of Japan, and it is not even too much to say that it is a drop in the bucket.

In fact, Jiang Haoran was worried that the probability of the latter was higher, because an important treaty in history that accelerated the defeat of the Japanese army and catalyzed the Japanese army's victory in the world did not appear as scheduled.

On September 27, 1940, the diplomatic representatives of Germany, Italy and Japan signed the Treaty of the Triple Alliance between Germany, Italy and Japan in Berlin, establishing a military bloc with the Berlin-Rome-Tokyo axis as the core. This treaty marked the formation of the Axis powers, and the fascists intended to divide the world, leading to the outbreak of a full-scale world war.

The failure of Germany, Italy and Japan to form an alliance as scheduled meant that Germany's battlefield was entirely likely to stop in Europe, and the Japanese army did not have the ambition to win the world for the time being, and these were the catalysts for the defeat of the Japanese army.

Later historians once boldly speculated that if the Japanese army did not ally with Germany and did not go to war with the United States, and focused all its energy on the Asian theater, then the pattern of history would have changed completely. As for whether China will die here? It's hard to say this question, but one thing is certain, that is, China's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression will be extended indefinitely, far more than the eight-year War of Resistance, and its hardships are unimaginable.

And what Jiang Haoran is worried about is because his butterfly flutters its wings and leads China into such a situation.

Everything doesn't happen because you're worried or not, and you can only do your best to obey the destiny of God. After thinking about this truth, Jiang Haoran was also relieved.

Li Tie called, although the Hurricane Column had already taken Leping County at night, but the Japanese army did not send troops to recapture Leping County as Jiang Haoran thought, and even the reinforcements that had entered the periphery retreated, but reinforced Poyang County overnight, which seemed to see through Jiang Haoran's purpose, so Li Tie called to ask for instructions on whether to continue to attack Poyang County.

Because of the Chongqing tragedy, and knowing that the Japanese Zero aircraft had come out in advance, Jiang Haoran had to reconsider attacking Nanchang.

After the original plan was to occupy Leping and Poyang counties and successfully cut off the reinforcements of the Japanese Fifth Division and the Third Division to Nanchang, Su Peng's new Third Division was immediately ordered to attack Yongxiu, cut off the Nanxun Railway, on which the Japanese army in Nanchang depended, and then gather superior forces to besiege Nanchang on all sides.
