Chapter 516: To each his own

Saudi Arabia has a large financial and vast land area, and it also needs to fight in several directions to deal with enemies from different directions, so it chooses the AR-3 ultra-long-range rocket launcher with a range of 280 kilometers and a range of 400 kilometers after a slight improvement.

Since then, the United Arab Emirates and Oman have followed suit and have also become users of Huaxia rocket artillery.

It's just that the UAE procures the SY-400 ultra-long-range rocket launcher, and Oman procures the S-2000.

The SY-400 ultra-long-range rocket launcher obtained by the UAE is actually a monkey version, to be precise, in accordance with international treaties, the maximum range is reduced to 280 kilometers.

The benefit of this is the ability to equip a larger warhead.

In addition, according to the requirements of the United Arab Emirates, Huaxia Arms Enterprise has developed several specialized warheads, such as sub-warheads capable of delivering hundreds of anti-tank submunitions at a time.

The most eye-catching is the ground-drilling warhead.

When this warhead is launched by the SY-400, the maximum range reaches 120 kilometers, with inertia plus "Beidou" composite guidance, the hitting accuracy is as high as 3 meters, if it is laser terminal guidance, it can also be increased to one meter, can effectively hit the deeply buried bunker, the penetration thickness of the rock reaches five meters, the soil reaches 15 meters, and you can choose a thermobaric warhead specially used to deal with the bunker.

This kind of rocket is called the "bunker terminator" by the Huaxia arms company.

In fact, the UAE took a fancy to this warhead and chose the SY-400 ultra-long-range rocket launcher.

It's a pity that the UAE is only a small country and does not need much rocket artillery, a total of 40 were procured to equip two ultra-long-range artillery battalions.

The S-2000 purchased by Oman is the culmination of the S series.

In fact, the S-2000 is also the first modular rocket artillery launched by Huaxia to the international market, which can use rockets of different calibers according to the needs of users, and can also be used by users when they are used, according to specific combat needs, by replacing the launch module to use rockets of different calibers, with coverage from 122 mm to 400 mm and combat range from 20 km to 280 km.

In addition, the S-2000 can also be used to launch more powerful tactical ballistic missiles, to be precise, it can be equipped with an integrated tactical ballistic missile storage, transportation and launch box.

In the later modifications, the function of launching anti-ship missiles and cruise missiles was also added.

Its most powerful version is capable of launching anti-ship rockets with a range of 280 kilometers, which is actually a miniaturized anti-ship ballistic missile.

To put it simply, as long as the interface standards of the launch platform are met, you can choose the launch box you carry at will, so as to use different ammunition.

It's a pity that Oman is also a small country and only purchased 20 S-2000s.

Among these Arab League countries, Kuwait is the only one that has not purchased rocket artillery from China.

Why?

Kuwait is so small that it's a city-state.

Because of the serious lack of strategic depth and the fact that the main threat comes from one direction, Kuwait does not need rocket artillery with a range of 280 kilometers.

Besides, if you really need it, you can also borrow it from Saudi Arabia and other countries.

If Kuwait is threatened, Saudi Arabia will send troops over as soon as possible, and it will also use ultra-long-range rocket artillery purchased from China.

So, what other reason does Kuwait have to equip it with ultra-long-range rocket artillery?

As a result, Kuwait became the first overseas user of the PLZ-05G when Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Oman went on a procurement spree for ultra-long-range rocket artillery.

In fact, it was Kuwait that took the lead in purchasing PLZ-45, and then Saudi Arabia.

Relatively speaking, Kuwait needs more self-propelled howitzers such as the PLZ-05G that can follow the activities of armored forces and operate in the field.

Because the PLZ-45G purchased that year was about to be scrapped, and other self-propelled howitzers should almost be eliminated, Kuwait bought 240 PLZ-05G in one go.

According to the plans of the Royal Kuwait Army, these PLZ-05Gs will be used to arm four brigades of artillery battalions, as well as a separate artillery brigade.

In addition, Kuwait purchased a set of PLZ-05G overhaul equipment.

With this overhaul facility, Kuwait will be able to build a PLZ-05G overhaul plant to gain maintenance capacity and reduce dependence on foreign countries.

After all, heavy equipment needs to be maintained and overhauled regularly, and you can't always send artillery back to China on a freighter every time.

Interestingly, Kuwait did not build the overhaul plant in its own country, but in Saudi Arabia.

Where is it?

To the north of Saudi Arabia, Crown Prince Mohammed provided the military industrial city for the royal house, and the overhaul plant is all staffed by D&F.

In other words, Kuwait paid for the equipment and then contracted the overhaul and maintenance of the PLZ-05G to D&F.

Obviously, this is a high degree of trust in Wang Dong and D&F.

Why?

During the Iraqi civil war, Wang Dong made a big splash on the front line and became a household name as the "god of war", and D&F also won the trust of many Arab League countries in the rear.

At that time, D&F had repaired at least 100 damaged main battle tanks.

In addition, D&F's technicians carried out a major overhaul of the Kuwaiti and Saudi PLZ-45Gs, which increased the efficiency of the use of these guns.

With these actions, D&F has proven its technological prowess.

Of course, contracting the maintenance of the PLZ-05G to D&F is also a good deal for Kuwait.

You know, shipping costs alone save hundreds of millions of dollars.

From a security point of view, it is also beneficial for Kuwait.

Allowing the artillery to be maintained nearby can ensure that the troops can re-form their combat effectiveness at any time, and sending them back to China for overhaul will be delayed for at least half a year.

In addition, D&F's technicians can go to Kuwait's troops to provide services and solve minor problems on the spot.

It's just that for the small country of Kuwait, 240 doors PLZ-05G is indeed a bit much.

In terms of guidance, the standing force of the Royal Kuwait Army is only four brigades, and all of them are not fully staffed in peacetime, and the number of soldiers on the staff is only equivalent to 60% of the full strength.

Suffice it to say that Kuwait simply does not need so many self-propelled howitzers.

So why do you need to source so much?

Obviously, one is to use it as a reserve, and the other is to facilitate the use of Saudi Arabia and other allies in times of war.

Don't forget, Saudi Arabia has PLZ-45G, so Saudi artillery can handle PLZ-05G after simple training, and it often conducts joint training with the Kuwaiti army in peacetime.

It can be seen that at least half of the PLZ-05G, that is, that separate artillery brigade, is intended for Saudi Arabia.

Since Kuwait has 120 ready-made PLZ-05G, why is Saudi Arabia still procuring it?

This is also the key reason why Saudi Arabia temporarily abandoned the PLZ-05G and focused on the purchase of A-300, delaying the replacement of self-propelled howitzers by several years.

However, at that time, the most important thing for the Arab League countries was not support weapons.

In addition to the main battle tank, what the Arab League countries value most is actually another main battle platform, the main battle platform that cooperates with the main battle tank.
