Chapter 61: Secret Deliberation (II)
"What do you mean? Use diplomatic means to isolate the Japanese Empire in the world. This was the first thing that came to Attlee's mind.
This was a common practice in the British Empire, and it has been tried and tested for centuries. The use of political and economic means to blockade the enemy, to build an invisible wall around the enemy country, usually without the use of force, can force the other side to bow their heads to the empire on which the sun never sets.
There is a theory in the Western world that is accepted by most people, and scholars believe that only those countries that can achieve self-sufficiency are capable of winning a modern foreign war. At the same time, with the development of the world's science and technology and economy, it has become more and more difficult for a country to become self-sufficient, and the possibility of a large-scale war has been alleviated.
All the efforts made by the Nazis after coming to power were to rebuild a self-sufficient system that could continue to survive and fight without dependence on other countries. This is also the living space advocated by Hitler, if the German nation wants to exist independently of the world, then it must obtain the resources it needs, if there is no domestic one, then raise the German sword and snatch the land with resources.
Britain, France, and other countries countered this by rallying their allies and building an invisible blockade around Germany, trying to use the means of controlling the import of resources, supplemented by a policy of appeasement that would lead to disasters in the east, to force Germany to abandon the idea of using force against the countries on the western front, turn its attention to the giant beasts in the east, and seize the "living space" it needed from there.
Theoretically, the British's tactics should have worked, but in fact, when Germany went to war, the reserves of some of the country's strategic resources were already close to the minimum warning line.
But the British missed two points in their strategy: one was that they underestimated Hitler's determination to take revenge on the European powers, and the second was that the powerful Soviet Socialist Union, which had been so hated by the Nazis that the British regarded it as the least likely country to cooperate with Germany.
In August 1939, Germany and the Soviet Union suddenly signed the "Soviet-German Non-Aggression Pact", and as soon as the two great powers joined forces, they wiped out Poland in one fell swoop.
Japan's domestic situation at the time of the war was actually much worse than Germany's, but there is one thing that Germany cannot match, that is, Japan has never encountered an economic blockade, even if the Chinese battlefield is bloody, Japan can still maintain normal trade with most Western countries, and can purchase strategic materials needed to maintain the war from Western businessmen.
This is also the reason why Japan has not officially declared war with China for a long time, because in the legal sense, Japan and China are not at war, but only regional armed conflicts. The puppet governments in the Japanese occupation zone were nominally the local authorities of China, so trading military supplies and raw materials with Japan did not violate any of the international laws of the time.
"We don't have that much energy to operate this from a diplomatic level, and since Japan withdrew from the League of Nations, the international political isolation has lost its meaning for the country, so the only means we can use now are economic." Xu Jun picked up the cigar cutter on the table and made a cutting motion.
"I remember that Japan doesn't have any important export commodities now, and they have a huge trade deficit at the moment, so I need to look it up. We can also bring together experts in the Asian economy to discuss and study this. Attlee understood what Xu Jun meant.
"Japan has thrown all its national strength into this inconclusive war, and they are willing to try their best to achieve the ultimate victory, even if there is only the slightest possibility. Such a country is quite dangerous, and it is not enough to deal with them by brute force, and it is necessary to pay some attention to some strategy. At the same time, if we make a decision, then we are not allowed to make further amendments, which must be thought out in advance, and it is not okay to reverse it afterwards. Xu Jun cut the cigar and put it in his mouth.
"I understand what you mean, Your Excellency. So how should we go about it? Attlee asked.
"Strictly control the amount of strategic goods imported into Japan, set up obstacles in international trade, and start a secret financial war against Japan in response to Japan's own conditions, dragging down its war economic system and depleting its remaining war potential.
Let them feel that they will not be able to move an inch in this world without the support of Europe, and believe that they will soon calm down and accept this cruel truth.
But to do that, it's not enough for us to do that, we need to unite more European countries, preferably with the Americans.
I think they should be interested in this, Japan has already posed a threat to them in the Pacific direction. I think Britain should have no problem as the initiator of the action. The German Führer struck a match and lit his cigar with a click.
"If it's what you requested, I guess there's no problem." Attlee replied.
"Very well, I also invited Prime Minister Attlee of France, and we can work together on the details."
"Your Excellency the Prime Minister of France?"
"Count the time, he should be almost there." Xu Jun spat out a ball of smoke and slowly dissipated in the living room.
Ensign Wiener walked down the stairs with a briefcase and was confronted by Colonel Dogen, who was about to go upstairs.
"Good afternoon, Colonel." The second lieutenant hurriedly stood up and saluted.
"Good afternoon, Wiener, where are you going?" Dougan asked.
"Go to the consulate, General Verrle needs to read a copy of diplomatic mail." Second Lieutenant Wiener reports.
"Then I'll send someone to drive you." Dogen turned around.
"Thank you, Colonel, the communications office has arranged the car." The second lieutenant looked at the majestic SS colonel with sparkling eyes.
"Okay, be careful on the road and stay safe." Dogan nodded calmly.
"Yes, yes, Colonel." Wiener gave a playful military salute.
"Go, go, go." Dougan returned the standard military salute, a rare smile on Poker's face.
"Colonel Dogen, Prime Minister Reival's car has just entered the front door of the palace." At the bottom of the stairs, a sergeant of the Guard Flag reported loudly.
"Where's Stark?" Dougan asked, turning around.
"The captain is already in the front yard." The sergeant replied.
"This guy, I'm going to go upstairs to find him." Colonel Dougan hurried down the stairs.
"This is the third part, General." A second lieutenant carefully pulled a printed document from the electric typewriter and handed it to Weierle, who was waiting nearby.
"How much is left undeciphered?" Wehrle asked as he read the document.
"There's about one page left, and it's the longest telegram I've ever received, sir." The lieutenant said with a smile.
"This was supposed to be delivered by diplomatic mail, but the Führer urged it more tightly." Wehrle read the document and put it in a folder with several other pages, the blue-gray cover already stamped with a red top-secret stamp.
"Prime Minister Reival has arrived, General." A lieutenant of the Guard Flag Corps opened the door to the communications room.
"Okay, I got it." Werler agreed.
"Also, Deputy Minister Ribbentrop wants to know how long it will take." The lieutenant said.
"How long will it take?" Wierle looked at the second lieutenant of the communications office.
"Fifteen minutes or so." The second lieutenant replied.
"Tell the deputy minister that it will take fifteen more minutes."
"Okay, sir, hi! Reinhart! The lieutenant saluted.
"Hey! Reinhart! The room stood up and raised their hands in response.
