Chapter 7: I Can Fish

Sailing is very important, although there are no modern galleons and no modern navigation equipment, but when taking the A-class sailing captain's license, navigation lessons are a must. How to use simple tools to determine the correct course and the geographical location of the ship by observing the position of the constellations, the moon, and the sun is also a must. If you can't pass the test, you will not be qualified, this is because you are afraid that once the equipment on the ship fails, the captain will be blind, so you can know the correct direction and direction, and wait for someone to come to the rescue, don't run farther and farther.

What could this thing do in the Song Dynasty? I can sail far! As long as you can sail far away in a boat, then you are a talent! The voyage trade of this era was very, very profitable, but it was also very, very limited, only a few of them came from piracy and the weather, and most of it was due to power and shipping issues. Many fleets that sail far away can only run once a year using the monsoon, and they have to have a fixed route, and if they change places slightly, they don't dare to go, because they don't know how to go in this place, and the secrets of each route are hidden in the hands of those big families who control the fleet.

If you can open up new routes and build ships that can sail against the wind and sail faster, then ocean trade will not be a dream. As long as you can run more times and faster than others, it is not a dream to be a sea merchant. But this thing is still a little far away, first there must be a ship, how to build this ship, whether anyone will build it, how to build it, we have to plan slowly.

The only thing that can make a good living for you at the moment is fishing! What do the Tan family live on? Fishing! Their small boats can walk along the shore inshore far away, and their nets are rudimentary, so their daily catch is very small. Like the kind of rice I ate yesterday, it was exchanged with fish and the natives on the shore, which was specially prepared to take out the inventory in order to entertain Hong Tao, a guest, if it was usual, they could only eat taro to satisfy their hunger, and even if it was taro, they had to take fish and shrimp to exchange with the natives on the shore, and they couldn't eat enough just to eat fish and shrimp.

Before eating dinner, Hong Tao looked at the net of Bo Fu's house, which was a net with a diameter of more than four meters. This thing is only suitable for shallow water, and when it is scattered, it is a large disc, and the iron weight tied around the net makes the net cover the bottom of the water like a large cover. It just so happens that the fish in the middle of this hood is frightened and then slams back and forth, and the fins will hang on the net and be pulled up by the net.

This fishing method is too primitive and too backward, completely dependent on Meng, to keep casting the net, collecting the net, the probability of being able to cover is not too large, if there is a reef under the water to hang the net, you have to go into the water to pick it up, both laborious and inefficient. Hong Tao's improvement methods are divided into three types, all of which are tailor-made after fully considering the current background of the times and economic conditions.

The first way is the ground cage. This method of fishing has been used in later generations, especially for lazy people. What is a ground cage? It is to roll the fishing net into a cylinder, which is generally more than ten meters long, and the middle is supported by materials such as iron wire and steel wire, so that the cylinder always maintains its shape and does not deflat. The two ends of the tube are not sealed, and a funnel made of fishing nets is sewn on, the large mouth of the funnel is flushed outward, and the small mouth is flushed to the inside of the net tube, and several such funnels can also be opened on the net tube, which is the channel for the fish to enter. Then the mesh tube is tied to a heavy object and sunk to the bottom of the sea, with a sturdy rope attached to it and a float as a marker.

How does this thing fish? You don't have to take the initiative to fish, you just need to row the boat and throw this long net into the sea, and you can throw as many as you want, the more the better. Fish have a habit of looking for concealment to hide, and these fish don't know what it is, so they will go around and see an opening, and they will get in.

However, fish do not have a memory, or they have a very short memory, only a few seconds. After getting in, I forgot where the exit was, and I only knew how to drill in the mesh. Those funnel-shaped inlets are easy to get in and difficult to get out, because the fins are all growing along the way, and they won't hang on the net when they go inside, and it's very troublesome to come out of the small opening. It just so happened that some of the smaller fish were able to get out, and most of them were trapped in the nets. Depending on the number of fish in the water, for a few hours, half a day, a day or a few days, row a boat to drag the cage onto the boat, and the fish inside will be yours. The float tied to the surface of the water is a marker that allows fishermen to discover the location of the ground cage.

Does it work? Hong Tao dares to guarantee that this will work 100%. This is not his invention and creation, but the essence of the Chinese working people from generation to generation, whether it is fresh water or sea water, all killed! If you want to catch big fish, you can enlarge the mesh, and if you want to catch small fish, you can shrink the mesh, which is very flexible. The most important thing is that this method of fishing does not require human effort, and does not delay time, throw the cage down, what to do, and when the time comes, you will work together.

If the productivity level is high enough, with the help of mechanical equipment, this kind of ground cage can also be improved and made into a large ground cage called ** array. That thing is amazing, for pelagic fish, you can't get out, a ** array can catch tens of thousands of catties of fish at a time, and many waters in the future are not allowed to use this kind of thing, the lethality is too great.

The second method is the crab cage. Hong Tao asked Bo Fu how they caught crabs, and their answer made Hong Tao very helpless, they were diving down and catching them with their hands! It's so hard that even if you see a crab, it burrows into a crack in the reef and can't catch it. Hong Tao's method is very simple, the same as making a ground cage, but don't use fishing nets anymore, use bamboo to weave a cage the size of a fruit basket, leave a round hole at one end, and then tie a funnel made of fishing nets, and then decorate it with heavy objects. When using, hang a small pile of fish or other meat in this bamboo cage, tie the crab cages one by one with ropes, and throw them into the sea while rowing, throw as much as you want, and then row a boat to catch it after a day and a half.

If there are many crabs in this area, then there will be one or two in each cage, not only crabs, but also octopus, lobster, skin shrimp, sea squid, including some benthic fish may burrow into it to eat meat, and as a result, they cannot find the exit and become captives.

The third way is to deal with big fish, called rolling hooks! What is a rolling hook? It is probably a thin rope more than one meter long tied every one or two meters on a thick rope, and an iron hook the size of a palm is tied to the end of the rope, and small fish are hung on the hook. At the same time, tie this thick rope to a pontoon every few meters, and then row the boat to the sea where big fish are frequented, tie as many hooks as long as the rope is, and don't go after releasing it, row the boat away for 100 meters and star.

If the fish is too big, let it swim with dozens of pontoons for a while, and then use hooks and spearguns to get it up when you are tired, and if the fish is not very big, you can get it directly on the boat.
