Chapter 3: Mars's Past
Vane looked up and saw that standing in front of him was the Mediterranean boss of the House of Green Violins. His waist was straight, his eyes were serious, and he looked like a veteran on the battlefield. Vane glanced at Felder and saw that he was also looking at him with a puzzled expression.
"Are you a magician?" Mediterranean's gaze made Vane very uncomfortable, as if he had been forcibly undressed. "What are you doing in Floating City?" he asked again before Vane could answer.
"The first question, is, it's obvious, a magician's apprentice, to be exact. Second question, I'm sorry I don't want to answer it right now!" Vane replied a little angrily, as Mediterranean asked him in a tone like interrogating a prisoner.
"Haha!" Mediterranean laughed, his momentum gone. "Vane, you and your uncle are exactly the same when they were younger, look at this stinky temper. I've known Albert for many years, so if you want to know more, come with me. With that, he turned around and walked to the bartender.
Vane got such a clue inexplicably, and he was excited in his heart, and he wanted to follow him, but his face seemed to have the upper hand, and his body seemed to be nailed to a chair. Felder couldn't understand his thoughts, so he pulled Vane and chased after him.
Through the wooden door behind the mixing station, a narrow stone staircase leads to the ground, and the light is dimmed. The two of them moved up the stone steps by the dim sconces. This is a wine cellar, surrounded by the aroma of wine, and a dozen large wooden barrels are placed on metal stands. The Mediterranean boss stood in the small open space in the middle and waited for them.
"I knew you were coming, sorry, but I had to arrange the conversation here. It's obviously not a good idea to discuss it in a tavern. Introduce yourself, Mars, who was once a member of the Knights of the Kingdom. ”
"Wow, knight, that's cool! I never dreamed of being a glorious knight!" Felder envied.
"Glory? Hehe, that's just relative, some people get glory, some people will suffer. Mars seemed to laugh at himself. "By the way, Vane, I saw that the map marked the Floating City, and you still have Albert's staff, what the hell is going on?"
"Uncle he left suddenly and hurried away a few days ago, and it seemed that he had taken nothing with him, including this staff of his beloved. The only clue left is this map. Vane said with a low mood.
"How many days have you been gone?" Mars frowned as he took the map, "It's really abnormal, he rarely cares about the outside world all these years, and he hasn't heard of going far away." ”
"Uncle marked the floating city on the map, and I think it must have something to do with it. Uncle Mars, do you know anything about Floating City?" Vane looked at him with wide eyes.
"I've only heard a little about Floating City, after all, it's the domain of magicians. Mars shrugged, "Some people say that the Floating City is an ancient magical city that has sunk to the bottom of the sea, and as it sinks to the bottom of the sea, there is a huge source of magical power. Somehow, the archmages discovered this secret and banded together to levitate the entire city with a levitation spell. But I don't think the Floating City was done by the Wizards' Guild guys, using magic to levitate a city? It's as ridiculous as ants trying to challenge dragons. ”
Marston paused, as if thinking of something, and continued, "I remember, your uncle spent some time in the headquarters of the Wizards' Guild, which is the Floating City, when he was young, and I don't know exactly what he did. Maybe I went there this time too. Albert is an amazing magician, and likewise, has a lot of secrets. ”
"Can you tell us a little bit about you and my uncle when we were young? "Vane has become a curious baby.
"Well, that was twenty years ago. Mars looked ahead in distraction, "Back then, the kingdom of Beseca was plagued by strange beasts from the eastern forests. The Paladins of the Federation of Raffrey managed to get in touch with the headquarters of the Wizards' Guild and sent several teams of knights to assist the mages in clearing the edge of the forest of strange beasts. ”
"This mission is not very dangerous, and the mages are the main force, so the Knights have sent many would-be knights to train, including me. I was young and vigorous, not satisfied with the strange beasts at the edge of the forest, and insisted on going to the depths, in order to prove that the glory belonged to the paladin, not to the clown wielding a stick. In fact, another reason is that I see that Albert is several years younger than me, and he is already a junior magician, which makes me feel a little unbalanced. ”
"You may have guessed the rest of the story. Yes, we encountered a powerful beast, a hungry windblade wolf. I was at the front of the line and was badly injured. Thankfully, Albert arrived in time and barely used a mid-level defense to block the fatal blow for me. You see—"
Mars unbuttoned his collar, revealing two hideous dark red scars on the bottom of his neck, like marks from hell.
"We fled the forest in disarray, and several of the knights were seriously wounded. Later, thanks to Albert's defense of me in court before the Order, I was allowed to remain in the Order. I can't remember what happened many years ago, so you two should listen to the story. Mars smiled as he buttoned his collar.
Vane and Albert were completely stunned by the story and the two scars, and did not utter a word with their mouths half open.
Mars touched his chin, pondered for a long time, and said, "This matter of your uncle is extraordinary, and it is imperative to find clues about his whereabouts, and I suggest you go to the big city, where there is more information." I have a very good friend in Obojar named Hill, you can go to him. He's a bard, and most of the time you'll find him in a tavern called The Singing Sheep in the main town, and occasionally he'll go to the surrounding towns. I think he can give you some clues. ”
"I'm also about to try my luck in Obojar, which is closer to the Floating City, and maybe I can get some out of it at the Academy of Magic. Vane said.
"What do you mean I'm going too?" said Felder, dissatisfied. "By the way, go to the Knights to see if you can become a quasi-knight of the kingdom. ”
Looking at Wayne and Felder, Mars suddenly thought of his youth, and he was so daring to think and do, full of passion and fantasy, as well as unforgettable friendship, family, and love......
"It just so happens that the tavern is going to Obojar tomorrow to buy some wine and food, so you can go there in a van together. There are still rooms in the hotel on the second floor, so you can rest there for the night. Mars gathered his thoughts and said that he wanted to help the two children as much as he could.
The two naturally expressed their gratitude, and then said goodbye and left.
"What the hell is going on with this Albert, is it possible that all these years of peace are going to be broken......" Mars muttered to himself as he looked at their departing backs, in a voice that only he could hear.
