CHAPTER XXIII
Goose Lake will spur each other on
On current affairs, do not forget the homeland
Seeing Xin Qiji, who came from afar, Chen Liang was overjoyed. The two reminisced with great interest about the Goose Lake meeting five years ago.
Goose Lake, in the northeast of Leadshan County, borders Zhejiang in the east and Fujian in the south, and is the only way from Lin'an to northern Fujian. Because the top of the mountain is filled with water into a lake, there are lotus in the lake and geese in the lotus, so it is called "lotus lake" or "goose lake". In the Tang Dynasty, there was a Goose Lake Zen Temple under the mountain, and the incense flourished in the Song Dynasty.
The lead mountain is in the east of Jiangxi, close to Wuyi Mountain, the terrain is remote, but at that time, it was a traffic artery, and the current dynasty and the Jin country were bordered by the Qinling Mountains and the Huai River; The area of Jiangbei and Huainan is the front, the south bank of the Yangtze River, that is, southern Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hunan and other places are the rear, and Fujian is the rear.
Shinshu is the hinterland of the heart of the Honcho Dynasty (belonging to Gangnam East Road). The main traffic route from Lin'an to the rear of Fujian is to start from Fuyang, go west to south through Tonglu, Jiande, Lanxi, Quzhou, Changshan, Yushan, Shangrao, Lead Mountain, Zixi, and pass through the water pass to Chong'an, Fujian, and Xinzhou is the place that must be passed. At the same time, the imperial court's liaison with Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangxi, and Sichuan, as well as the logistics running east-west, also had to pass through the Xinjiang waterway. Therefore, Shinshu has become the main artery of east-west transportation - the Zhejiang-Jiangxi corridor.
The reason why Zhu, Xin and Chen chose to meet at Goose Lake is because it is conveniently located on the main transportation route.
In the winter of the sixteenth year of Chunxi (1188), Chen Liang heard that Zhu Xi and Xin Qiji would be reactivated, Xin Qiji was a well-known main battle faction in the world, and Zhu Xi also advocated the Northern Expedition to recover his homeland.
Chen Liang thought to himself that once these two people went out of the mountain and were reused by the emperor, the great cause of the Northern Expedition would inevitably be accomplished, so he invited the two to meet at Goose Lake. At this time, Xin Qiji built a new house in Huangquan near Goose Lake, and lived there, it is said that the scenery is good, where it is not only convenient for Xin Qiji, but also allows Zhu Xi to revisit his hometown.
Zhu Xi initially agreed to this invitation, but in the end he did not come. Xin Qiji kept his promise and welcomed Chen Liang's arrival at home.
Chen Liang set off from his hometown of Yongkang, went straight to Xinzhou along the Zhejiang-Jiangxi Road, braved the wind and snow, trekked more than 800 miles, and saw Xin Qiji, who was thinking about the moon and thinking about it, in Xinzhou's new residence with a lake.
At that time, Xin Qiji was sick and bedridden, and Chen Liang's arrival made him very excited. Xin Qiji recorded the scene of the first day of the meeting between the two with his distracted writing: "My sick gentleman came to sing and drink, scattered the snow flying on the building, laughed at the wealth and wealth, and who would listen to the hard words, remember that at that time, there was only the west window moon." ”
Chen Liang still maintains good living habits, getting up in the early hours of the morning every day to dance and practice martial arts. Xin Qiji, who was nearly fifty years old, twenty years of wandering, six years of retreat to the countryside, and the ruthless erosion of the years had made him lose his energy, his interest was lazy, he began to get sick, his stomach was upright, he was drowsy, thirsty, his hair was gone, and he even lost a few teeth. Physical illness and mental depression have made him neglect the practice of martial arts, he eats and lives excessively, his condition is aggravated by excessive drinking, and he swears to stop drinking, and it is difficult to get up early in the morning, and it seems to have become a habit to sleep.
The arrival of Chen Liang made Xin abandon the illness and rekindle the power of life. Chen Liang was forty-five years old at the time, only three years younger than Xin Qiji, and failed to pass the imperial examination three times.
After the two traveled and talked in Huangquan and Goose Lake for a few days, they went south to Zixi, near Fujian, to wait for Zhu Xi, which was not far from Chong'an, where Zhu Xi lived, and Zhu Xi only needed to walk a hundred miles and go north out of the water gate to meet each other.
But Zhu Xi finally failed to make an appointment, and he later wrote to Chen Liang, explaining that the reason why he couldn't make an appointment was that he didn't want to participate in political affairs, and just wanted to live a life of study and seclusion in the mountains.
Afterwards, Xin Qiji knew that the real reason was not at all the "indifferent self-treatment" he said, but another utilitarian calculation. At that time, Zhou Bida was going to be the left minister, and Wang Lin was going to be the privy envoy. These two people are Xin Qiji's political opponents, and this time it was Wang Lin who impeached Xin Qiji, but these two people had a good relationship with Zhu Xi, and the outside world called them both "Taoism" party. Zhu Xi was worried that if he was mixed with Xin Qijian again, it would cause misunderstanding between Zhou and Wang and affect his future as an official, so he didn't come for some reason.
If he was really willing to live an indifferent life of "eating vegetable roots and reading idle books" in the mountains, it would be understandable, but soon after, after he obtained the official position of the governor of Zhangzhou, he did not hesitate and immediately went out of the mountain to take up his post.
For these, Xin Qiji does not blame him, everyone has a small abacus, even if they are friends, they must seek advantages and avoid disadvantages, there is no need to hit the muzzle.
Xin Chen shook hands for the third time. But this is the first time that we have met with such an open mind and sincerity. Xin Qijian has been in the army for a long time, traveled all over the north and south of the motherland, and even personally infiltrated Yanjing, the capital of the Jin people, twice to reconnoiter the terrain. So far, the northernmost place he has been to is Jianye, so in this regard, he has too much to learn from Xin Qiji. Taking the viewpoint of military geography as an example, Chen Liang once advocated sending troops to the Northern Expedition from the east and west at the same time, while Xin Qiji advocated that only one direction of Shandong should be used as the first actual attack direction, and after the Song soldiers controlled Shandong and disrupted the enemy's defense system, they would march from other directions. This line of thinking is undoubtedly more in line with the principle of military science of concentrating superior forces and striking in one direction first. For another example, Chen Liang advocated moving the capital to Jianye as the first important military measure of the Northern Expedition; Xin Qiji, on the other hand, believes that moving the capital to Jianye only has symbolic significance, and does not have real military geographical value. If the imperial court really had the heart to go on the Northern Expedition, it didn't matter where the capital was placed, and it couldn't be too bothered about such a thing. It should be said that these views are more clever than Chen Liang, so Chen Liang said that their words are more consistent. And Chen Liang's idealistic enthusiasm is also a beautiful feeling that Xin Qiji has lost for a long time, which inspires him to feel as if he has returned to the youth of "supporting ten thousand husbands in the prime of life".
