Chapter 312: Military Parade (2)
The pilot car turns left in front of the Brandenburg Gate and drives onto Unter den Linden, crossing the heart of the Tyre Park from east to west.
Both sides of the road in Tyre Park were already full of citizens who had come to watch the military parade, and some daring bear children even climbed the big trees and street lamp poles along the roadside.
Unter den Linden was the gateway to the troops, from where they would march eastward through the Brandenburg Gate.
Historically, the Brandenburg Gate was an ordinary gate on the west side of the Berlin city wall, named because of the road leading to Brandenburg, and in 1788 to commemorate Prussia's victory in the Seven Years' War. Kaiser Wilhelm II ordered the construction of the current Arc de Triomphe. From then on, the passage of victorious armies through the Brandenburg Gate became a military tradition in Old Prussia.
At 9:25 a.m., the second pilot car exited the exit of the Führer's underground garage and turned left onto Albert Street.
Unlike the first car, it was a blue-gray painted Mercedes-Benz G4, with the golden red flag of the High Command hanging on both sides of the front and a black canvas carport on top, so that only the SS driver could be seen clearly.
Amid the loud cheers of the citizens, the car turned left into the Brandenburg Gate and then did not stop at Parisplatz, but drove east along Unter den Linden, directly towards Museum Island.
The roads around the Reich Führer's Mansion had been blocked, the square on the side of Wilhelm Avenue was full of military vehicles on standby, the guards at the intersection of Voss Street and Albert Street had changed to Führer Guard Flag Corps soldiers in black parade coats, MG40 machine guns were set up on blue-gray painted barrel cars, and new brass bullet chains shone golden in the morning sun.
At 9:30 a.m., the first pilot car drove past the Charlottenburg Gate, then turned right on the Castlestrasse in front of it and entered the Charlottenburg Palace Gate.
In accordance with the plan of the High Command, all the reference troops have now assembled in the open space of the Charlottenburg Palace, waiting for the Führer's liaison vehicle to bring the order to review the start of the parade.
In the past, during the German military parade, the troops were on standby on the streets of Unter den Linden, but this time the number of personnel and equipment of the troops was too large, and a more spacious place was needed to assemble, at least to be able to accommodate the logistics units serving the vehicles and personnel.
The total number of troops directly involved in this military parade is close to 15,000, and although it is not unprecedented in scale, it is also a big scene rarely seen in more than a decade.
In the past, the German army only pulled out one or two regiments of infantry, plus some mixed columns of cavalry and artillery in the military parade on Memorial Day.
Because of the fear of irritating the nerves of European countries, the difficulty of maneuvering, and the fear of damage to the city streets, the Germans rarely used their armored forces during military parades. In the past, it was only when Hitler received foreign leaders that armored troops were mobilized to be paraded on the streets of Berlin for the purpose of showing off the might of the German army.
However, this time the commander-in-chief spent a lot of money, in addition to the tank regiment directly under the Führer, a large number of armored units were also transferred from the front-line troops, all of which were the main equipment used by the German army in active service.
Out of secrecy, Xu Jun was not prepared to disclose the new weapons of the German army at this time, let alone the treasures at the bottom of the box that were still in an experimental state, otherwise once the Soviet side saw it, there would be a lot of troublesome hands and feet to deal with.
The arrival of the pilot car flying the Führer's flag means that the parade is about to begin, and the soldiers begin their final checks, waiting for the call to leave for the beginning of a glorious trip that will be remembered for a lifetime.
At 9:45 a.m., the copper-clad gate on the side of Wilhelmstrasse opened, and the first to come out were eight two-wheeled motorcycles, which were the opening cars of the Führer's convoy.
The motorcyclist wears a gray motorcyclist covered with rubber, gray sheepskin gloves on his hands, an M35 steel helmet and rubber goggles on his head, and shiny black riding boots on his feet, which are complemented by a layer of chrome plated engine exhaust pipes.
The trail bikes were followed by four three-wheeled motorcycles, the drivers wearing black SS parade coats with white ammunition packs and belts around their waists, and a senior SS noncommissioned officer in the same attire sitting in the back seat and in the body. The three-wheeled bikes were not armed, but each non-commissioned officer carried an MP40 submachine gun on his shoulder.
The tuk slowed down slightly after exiting the gate, waiting for the following vehicles to catch up.
The first sedan was the Führer's Mercedes-Benz 770K, which was painted with a new layer of wax for today's event, and all the chrome parts were wiped down repeatedly, and the body could even reflect the scene on both sides of the street.
Because of the cold weather, the Führer sat in a 770K with a hard top, but the officers and soldiers on standby in the square could still see the figure sitting upright in the back seat through the huge side windows, and the Führer himself who they revered.
As soon as the Führer's car drove through the gate, four tricycles immediately followed, guarding the Mercedes in the middle from the four corners, and in addition to the guards accompanying the vehicles, they were the most important line of defense against some accidents.
In the history of Europe, public assassinations often occurred on the way of important people, especially after the assassination of Duke Ferdinand, European Assassins were very fond of suddenly rushing to the side of the car and shooting inside, and it is known that two ministers and a king have died in this way of assassination.
The side of the Mercedes-Benz 770K is equipped with 50 mm thick bulletproof glass, and Xu Jun's car has strengthened its armor defense, and the steel plate of the door can withstand 7.9 mm steel core bullets fired from 15 meters away.
Of course, the car could not hold the Iron Fist, but the average Assassin could not get his hands on such a weapon, and if he were to be attacked by the Iron Fist one day, it would almost mean that a coup d'état had broken out, and it would also prove that he was beginning to lose the trust and control of the Wehrmacht, just like Hitler.
Of course, Xu Jun will not allow this to happen, he has successfully changed the past, and he has great confidence in changing the future.
Behind the Führer's car drove out of the Führer's capital were three identical Mercedes-Benz 770Ks with different flags hanging on both sides of the front of the car, the first with the French tricolor, the second with the British flag, and the third with the flag of the Kingdom of Italy. Behind the three Mercedes were two Mercedes guard cars, all with open sheds, filled with officers of the Flag Guard wearing big-brimmed hats.
Marshal Pétain was unable to attend the event in person because of his sudden physical discomfort, which was of course announced to the public. In fact, the marshal and president still want to save a little face, after all, this military parade is not a very honorable thing for France.
Although the Germans claimed that the parade was a celebration of peace, it was also a celebration of victory in the war in Europe, and although France and Germany were trying to reconcile, a large number of French soldiers were killed in the war.
Even because of Xu Jun's arrival, the casualties caused to the French army in the second assault were even more serious than in history. A large number of French troops who should have surrendered in history were annihilated by the Germans this time because they could not react too late.
Fortunately, the losses on the part of the French officers were not very large, and the command structure in the German prisoner of war camps was very complete, and theoretically as long as the soldiers were replenished, these troops could be rebuilt at any time. After all, some units of the French army fought quite well in the early stages of the war, and for them defeat and surrender was a crime of non-war, and it was purely a drag on the idiot superiors.
As the president of France and a veteran of the armed forces, Petain was indeed not suitable for this grand event, and if it was the next military parade, he might not have so many taboos.
Petain did not dare to publicly refute the face of the German Führer, it was too stupid and short-sighted to do so, so he wrote a personal letter to explain to Xu Jun, hoping that the other party would understand his difficulties.
In order to show the importance that France attached to the military parade, Petain once again sent the prime minister Reival, who was openly pro-German and had no scruples of one kind or another, and whose skin was as thick as the corner of the walls of Paris, and the siege cannons could only rub off some plaster.
