Chapter 883: Confrontation (4)

(a)

After another period of question-and-answer, at this time, the red sun had gradually sunk in the west, and the light in the hall had become dim and hazy.

The chamberlains carefully served snacks, and King Miran ordered the lamps and candles to be lit, and everyone continued to debate throughout the day while eating snacks.

At this time, everyone thought with admiration: Our king is really worthy of being a philosopher king who has studied both China and the West! The first monk is indeed worthy of being recognized as a great monk in the Buddhist community in India!

The meeting of these two people and the collision of ideas, of course, are chess opponents, and they will meet good talents!

King Milan asked: Some people say that the practice of Buddhism is important in one in-depth and has no distractions, and some people say that in fact, it is still necessary to go deep in one mind. Ask the bhikkhus, what is the relationship between one-mindedness and one-mindedness?

The first bhikkhu replied, "Single-mindedness is a type of depth." A deep is a way of expressing a deep mind. For example, when a knife is in a sheath, nothing can be cut, but once it is unsheathed, everything can be cut off. The key is to get it out of the sheath, not in what posture to pull it out of the sheath.

King Milan then asked, "Let me ask you again, is it the great merit of doing good, or the great evil of doing evil?"

Then the bhikshu replied, "The merit of doing good deeds is great." There is an old Chinese saying that evil prevails over good. When a person does good, he will feel joyful and happy, and his body and mind will be comfortable, so he will be easy to work on and like to experience it again, so that the good deeds will continue to expand and expand. When people do evil, they always feel empty and painful in their hearts, and they are crazy and frightened, so they often secretly regret it, and repentance for a lifetime is equivalent to shrinking the scourge of bad karma. So, in the end, the merit of doing good is greater.

King Millam said, "What, then, is it the wise man who has done evil and suffered a lot?" Or do fools do evil and suffer much?

Then the first bhikshu said, "A fool who does evil suffers a lot." For example, if there is a red-hot soldering iron on the ground, and two people go to grab the soldering iron at the same time, do you say, is it the person who knows in advance that it will be hot and the person who is seriously injured, or the person who does not know that it is hot in advance is seriously injured? King Milan: Of course, it's someone who knows in advance that it's going to be hot, and the injury is relatively light. May I ask the king, why is he slightly injured?

King Milan replied: Because he knew this beforehand, he would take the initiative to control his actions and avoid harm.

The first bhikkhu nodded and said, "Yes." The same is true of the wise man, even if he does evil, because he clearly knows the consequences of doing evil in his heart, he will restrain himself. Cultivators are people who know very well in advance the consequences of their thoughts and actions, so they will be able to control their body, mouth, and mind more and be able to take the vows, so they will experience and cause less damage. On the other hand, after a wise person has done evil, he can know repentance, so that the disaster of evil can be reduced and turned into a motivation to do good. After the fool does evil, he has no shame and no regrets, so the disaster of evil will not become smaller so quickly.

King Miran asked, "Ask the bhikkhus, what is the difference between God, wisdom and nature?"

The first bhikshu said, "Godβ€”the ability of rigpa to perceive the inner and outer realms." Wisdom – the ability of rigpa to recognize rigpa. Nature - the clear sky is not two, and you can see and see.

King Milan then asked, "I heard that an arhat can fly to the great Brahma in this body?" But I didn't believe it. How can they fly without wings?

Then the first monk said, "Did the king jump over the low wall in the palace when he was a child?"

King Millan said: When I was a child, I used to jump over when I was playing, and it was very fun.

Then the first monk asked, "Does the king remember how to jump over?"

King Milan said, "I looked at the wall, and thought to myself, this is not too high, and I jumped over it in one step." I thought to myself, such a leap, it really passed.

Nasan Bhikkhu: The way an arhat ascends to the great Brahma is the same as the way a great king crosses a low wall. The reason why mortals can't go to the Great Brahma is that the obstacle is not in the distance, but in the idea that "distant" and "unreachable". Mortals are clinging to this thought, so they can't easily go to the Great Brahma. The arhats are not greedy for this thought, so there is no obstacle to attaining the great Brahma.

After a day and a night of debate and questioning, the monk Nasan answered all the questions raised by King Milan satisfactorily, which convinced King Milan.

King Milan was very happy in his heart, and sighed: "If all the teachers in the world are like you, the first bhikkhus, and the students in the world are like this king and me, no matter the teachers and students, they will all be able to get the Tao quickly!" ”

Then he bowed his head silently and expressed his approval.

King Milan insisted on giving generous gifts to the bhikkhus.

The first monk resolutely refused to accept it.

King Millan said, "At first, I know that you are not greedy for money, and I know that money cannot reward your enlightenment, but you should still accept the king's bounty for this conversation." If you don't accept the generous gifts, people outside will say, "King Milan is really a stingy and unenlightened person, and the first bhikshu enlightened him with so much insight, but he didn't reciprocate it." This kind of argument will affect my authority as a king, and it will also affect the culture of respect for the sages in the country. On the other hand, there will also be people who will talk about you, saying that the first bhikshu did not receive a generous gift, and must have been asked by King Miran, or that he did not have the ability to convince King Miran, which will affect people's confidence in your teachings and the prestige of the local shaman. Therefore, please accept the generous gift for these two things. ”

So, he accepted the reward of King Milan.

King Milan sent him out of the palace.

That night, after bidding farewell to the first bhikkhus, King Milan returned to the palace and thought to himself, "What questions have I asked the first bhikkhu today?" Then what did the first bhikkhu answer to me? What do I ask of the first bhikkhus? What did the first bhikshu give me?

Thinking like this, I don't feel the dawn.

And after the first monk returned to the local monastery and stayed, he also thought to himself: What question did King Milan ask me today? What questions did I answer him? What does King Millam ask of me? What shall I give to him?

Thinking like this, I don't feel the dawn.

After dawn, the first bhikshu went straight into the palace with a bowl, went up to the main hall, and sat in front of King Milan.

And after the king got up and saluted him, he sat down opposite him.

The two looked at each other for a moment, and they both knew what each other was thinking last night.

King Milan spoke, "What a pleasure, all the questions I wanted to ask have been asked with great pleasure, and they have all been answered satisfactorily. ”

The first bhikkhu also said, "What a pleasure." All the questions I wanted to explain were explained freely, and I was listened to satisfactorily. ”

The two smiled at each other.

The first bhikkhu stood up and said, "Then, I'm leaving." ”

King Millan stood up and saluted respectfully.

Then the first bhikshu turned and left the court, and King Miran stood there watching him go.

In this way, they left the stage of life, the times, history, and these episodes in this book.
